yeahh well
here's how I play, and it's made me the top goalscoring team in france so far:
I have 4 defenders, with two supporting wing backs
I have one defensive midfielder who plays as a deep playmaker.
I have two wide midfielders
I have one supporting am
and I have one trequartista (gourcuff)
up front I have Chamakh as a deep forward, h is stats are perfect for it, but he's just not performing this season, it's a one off.
I've not decided what I'm doing next season, I just can't decide whether to stay on or not :| I think whether or not I win th e league will decide it.
I'm wasted atm :) I think it's a perfect time to do the last game of the season! I won't start it until I get a few people on it.

---------- Post added at 05:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:37 AM ----------

okay I'll do it tommorow ha :) keep tuned for tommorows update

personally i haven´t tried that tactic yet, but played with Bordeaux for the challenge a while back on this site. Back then i used a tactic with 2 strikers, Chamakh being one and Cavenaghi being the other, and had Chamakh as Target Man and Cavenaghi as Poacher and it worked extremely well that way. I´d try him out as Target Man maybe, his stats suit that role slightly better than as deep lying fwd, in my opinion anyway.
Looking forward to the last match :)

Girondins Bordeaux 3:1 FC Sochaux-Montbe

19:00 KO

18:17:
It's the final day of the season in Ligue 1, and things couldn't be much tighter at the top of the table. This match was the first game of the season last year, when Bordeaux took them on away from home and despite losing Chamakh after 20 minutes, went on to win the game comfortably. How will they fare today, knowing that they have to win to stand a chance of winning the league?

18:28: The comfort for Bordeaux fans is that Lille take on PSG today, no easy team to beat. Especially with that man Guilleme Hoarau in the side, however you spell it. He was today voted star of the season so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on. Bordeaux team sheet is coming through soon...

18:37: Girondins Bordeaux
Carrasso, Zuiverloon, Riise, Ciani, Henrique, Diarra, Defour, Wendel, Gourcuff, Diaby, Chamakh
Sochaux-Montbe
Richert, Peybernes, Mikari, Poujol, Josse, Tulasne, Barthelme, Souprayen, Nogueira, Necid, Villalva

18:48: Former captain Diarra is the real surprise in the starting line-up. With Javi Garcia picking up a knock leaving him out of this fixture, Diarra has been picked as a straight replacement for him, whilst Defour moves out onto the right flank to provide support. Game gets going in 10 minutes.

19:00:
kickoff.gif
The final day of Ligue 1 is upon us and Frederique Savret gets us going at the Stade Chaban Delmas. Will Bordeaux be lifting the Ligue 1 title here today, or will it be Lille? In 115 minutes we will know.

19:02: As you'd expect, Bordeaux are the quickest out of the blocks and Chamakh and Gourcuff both have early shots, but the keeper is equal to them.

19:05: Ohhh and Tulasne had a fantastic opportunity there to give Sochaux the lead. He is played in behind the defence and goes one-on-one with Carrasso, but the fantastic French no.2 makes a wonderful save to parry wide and Riise clears it out for a throw.

19:06: And Bordeaux need to be more aware at the back. They are again caught out as Necid, so impressive in the reverse fixture, flicks on a ball to on-loan Barca striker Villalva but he can't get his shot on target.

19:08:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
LOSC Lille Metropole 1:0 Paris Saint-Germain (Jonatas)
Bad news Bordeaux fans, and if it stays like that Lille are heading for the title. Jonatas takes the ball in midfield, before dodging Chantome and smashing a wonderful strike into the roof of the net. Lille have one hand on the trophy with that goal, and although the Bordeaux players won't know it, it's a crushing blow.

19:09:
_46175647_yellow_card_44.jpg
Reckless challenge from Wendel as he brings down Josse from behind and that was a definite yellow card. They need to regain some composure and get passing again.

19:11: The shot of a man lacking confidence. Chamakh breaks through the defence brilliantly and his pace gets the better of the defenders but he drags it well wide of the target.

19:12:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
LOSC Lille Metropole 1:1 Paris Saint-Germain (Hoarau)
Excellent news for Bordeaux fans and just 3 minutes after going a goal down, PSG have pulled it back and guess who? A fantastic finish from the French striker as he brings down a Mevlut Erdinc through ball before slamming past Landreau.

19:14:
_46175647_yellow_card_44.jpg
There's hardly a minute where something doesn't happen, and it's Gourcuff in the book this time, as he pulls the shirt of Barthelme. Little harsh that, especially compared to Wendel.

19:19:
_46175647_yellow_card_44.jpg
Well you can't doubt the commitment but it is another rash challenge, and that's 3 in the book for Bordeaux now as Zuiverloon slides in recklessly. No need for that from the Dutchman, especially not with van Basten in the crowds today.

19:22: Excellent work again from Villalva as he twists and weaves his way past Henrique and Ciani before slamming a shot goalwards, but Carrasso again does brilliantly to deflect it wide.

19:24:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 1:0 FC Sochaux-Montbe (Gourcuff)

And Bordeaux's top goalscorer so far this season has done it again and that puts les Girondins on top of the table. It really is getting dramatic now. Diaby does brilliantly to weave through the defence before sending the ball through with the deftest of passes and Gourcuff's away and slams under the keeper's legs from 8 yards. Game. On.

19:28: And Souprayen is lucky to avoid a yellow as he goes in hard on Henrique, it was poorly timed, and the ball was already out of the defender's feet but the referee has been lenient there.

19:30:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 2:0 FC Sochaux-Montbe (Gourcuff)

He's done it again and surely they're heading for a win here now! It's all down to Lille if they want to win the league now they have to beat PSG. From the free-kick conceded by Souprayen, Carrasso's long ball is horrendously misjudged by the Sochaux goalkeeper and Gourcuff runs behind to tap into an empty net. The momentum has swung in this title race.

19:36:
_46175647_yellow_card_44.jpg
A first yellow card for Sochaux and it's a deserved one for Souprayen. I actually thought that was in the box but the referee has given a free-kick just on the edge of the area as Souprayen hacked down Wendel.

19:38
_46175648_red_card_44.jpg
RED CARD (Souprayen)
Incredible and that truly is it for Sochaux now, surely? He just got a yellow card for his hack on Wendel and he comes up the other end and hacks down Defour with a poor challenge, and Souprayen is off for an early bath. Game over now surely?

19:43: They've reacted well to that red card in all fairness, Sochaux. Necid is a real handful for Bordeaux and he breaks through the defence again but Carrasso is on hand to push wide. He's having a cracking game, the Bordeaux keeper.

19:47:
_46175652_ht_44x.jpg
HALF TIME Girondins Bordeaux 2:0 FC Sochaux-Montbe
That's the half-way point then at the Stade Chaban Delmas and if things stay the same in 45 minutes, Bordeaux will be lifting the Ligue 1 title. They've done it the hard way though haven't they? We're back in quarter of an hour. Don't go away.

20:00:
kickoff.gif
It's been an incredible season and what a finale this is turning out to be so far. Back under way and in 45 minutes time we will know the new champions of France.

20:02:
_46175647_yellow_card_44.jpg
2 minutes in and we've seen yet another yellow card, this time for Steven Defour as he hacks down his man after losing the ball. It's like Christmas at the Stade Chaban Delmas today.

20:04:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 2:1 FC Sochaux-Montbe (Villalva)

What an incredible goal that was. Necid wins the 10 men of Sochaux a corner and it is played short to Villalva who skips past 3 players in the crowded box before smashing into the back of the net. A truly superb goal from the Barcelona loanee. This game is back in the balance.

20:10:
_46175647_yellow_card_44.jpg
Sochaux are starting to play with a worrying amount of confidence, and Diarra mis-times his tackle to bring down Villalva on the half-way line.

20:16: More like it from Bordeaux. A good team move ends in a corner and Henrique flicks Wendel's delivery on but Defour can't get enough power on his header to worry the keeper.

20:23:
_46175648_red_card_44.jpg
RED CARD (Defour)
Simply ridiculous from the Bordeaux captain and that was totally unneccessary. Sochaux are given a goal-kick following a Bordeaux corner but Defour is certain there was a handball in the middle of it. The referee is having none of it and waves him away but Defour chases after him shouting and the referee shows no hesitancy in showing him his second yellow card. That puts this game back in doubt.

20:25:
subs-feed.gif
Henri Saivet has come on now for Alou Diarra as Bordeaux look to extend their advantage. The manager clearly isn't holding back.

20:30: Lovely stuff from Gourcuff. He plays a magnificent ball over the top of the defence which Chamakh latches onto, taking it in his stride before hitting a strike at the keeper. Wendel runs in and hits the rebound with some ferocity but the keeper gets both hands in the way and tips it over.

20:32:
subs-feed.gif
Fernando is coming on now for Chamakh as Bordeaux look to bolster their defensive options. Looks like Saivet is going up front now then.

20:35: It's all Sochaux in these last exchanges as they look for a crucial equaliser which would see Bordeaux drop into second. Necid has twice won them corners but Ciani and Henrique defend heroically to deny them.

20:40:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
LOSC Lille Metropole 1:2 Paris Saint-Germain (Jonatas o.g.)

Huge. SImply huge. The scoreline has shot around the Stade Chaban Delmas and there is a huge roar. Barring a ridiculous comeback from PSG or Sochaux, the Ligue 1 title is heading to Bordeaux this season. The brilliant Hoarau finds space outside the box and hits a wiked shot goalwards but it takes a deflection off goalscorer Jonatas and flies past the dumbfounded Landrea. Incredible stuff.

20:46:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 3:1 FC Sochaux-Montbe (Saivet)

An absolutely incredible goal from Bordeaux's young player of the season. That was what he was brought on for and it is a truly magnificent goal. He picks up the ball off Riise as Sochaux look to get the equaliser and dribbles past the entire defence before faking the goalkeeper and slamming into the roof of the net. His celebration says everything as he falls to his knees in front of the fans. Has he just won the Ligue 1 for Bordeaux?

FULL TIME LOSC Lille Metropole 1:2 Paris Saint-Germain

20:48:
_46175651_ft_44.jpg
FULL TIME Girondins Bordeaux 3:1 FC Sochaux-Montbe
An absolutely superb finale, and the Chaban Delmas is in uproar. They thought they'd thrown it away with that loss to Nancy-Lorraine mid-week but they've shown incredible character to win this game in tough circumstances and they will have to thank their bitter rivals PSG for seeing off Lille. Amazing stuff.

20:56:
610x.jpg

Bordeaux's two goal hero and player of the season Yoann Gourcuff celebrates with Chamakh after they win their first Ligue 1 title in 3 years. They'll be picking up the trophy soon.

21:00:
25soccer_533.jpg

The clock strikes 9 and Bordeaux are champions of France again. An incredible achievement and one they truly deserved even if it looked like the dream was over to Nancy, their bogey team for this season. They may have missed out on the Coupe de la Ligue but this is without doubt a much greater achievement. Until next season from Canal+, au revoir and stay safe.

The prize at stake today.

Yoann-Gourcuff-001.jpg

Gourcuff runs off celebrating after scoring his first goal. How important will it prove to be?

Daniel-Villalva.jpg

Villalva scores a superb goal to put 10-men Sochaux back in with a shout.

Live Updated Table

LYON LOSE IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL

After an incredible run in the Champions League, 3rd placed French side Lyon failed to beat Barcelona in the final, but it took penalties to decide it, after Michel Bastos' incredible goal cancelled out Lionel Messi's penalty after half an hour.
It was a brilliant effort from Lyon but they will be gutted they missed out on the Champions League after they saw it affect their league from so drastically.

3679_1.jpg

Despite giving it everything, the might of Barcelona was just too much for Lyon.

Barcelona go home to Spain as champions of Europe.

YOANN GOURCUFF SIGNS 4 YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH BORDEAUX ON 90K A WEEK.

Bordeaux were boosted today with the news that Player of the Season Gourcuff has denied rumours linking him with European Champions Barcelona and has instead re-confirmed his loyalty to the French champions.

well done man if you looking for a new tactic ill share mine if you like to try it

good match and a bit of luck that lille slipped. Grats on the title :)

Congrats on the titile win mate! It will be interesting to see where you go next, im guessing your staying at Bordeaux as you extended Gourcuffs contract. Hope you get some decent strikers in, look for strikers with 14+ Composure to slot away those easy chances.

Seems you've set your sights higher than just the Title, best of luck whether you stay in France or move elsewhere for your next exciting chapter.

thanks everyone for all the comments xD
casey - thanks, yeahh sure thing I'll get it going in pre-season depending on where I decide to go..
phil06 - yep, we deserved that luck in my opinion though and PSG are no easy team to beat so I did see it as a possibility that we could go on and win the title. my first ligue 1 title ever :)
shootie - yeahh thankyou :) it was a **** of a season, but to get there on the last game is brilliant. I've not decided yet :| I've got some decent strikers, i.e. Vagner Love, Chamakh and that but I'll look around if I stay with Bordeaux. Only thing is I've been offered a contract by Roma which has made me rethink my plans. But I've also got Ochoa coming in next season so I'm not sure whether or not to go. We'll have to wait and see.
hibernianboy - first timer I believe :) commenting that is anyway. Yeahh I'd like to push on now and although I see potential in this side I'm not sure how far I can take them. just considering my future at the moment but I've been put under pressure a little bit by this Roma offer..

thanks for all the comments, they're all brilliant and I hope you carry on reading this story :)

difficult choice you have there. With Bordeaux you have a good team now, but already achieved your objective. Of course you can try and push for the champions league title now as well as defend the league title, which would be a good challenge still. Roma is fun to play, and unless their previous manager was dreadful they should be in only reasonable dept by now (monthly profit even with loans still being repaied) and have a good squad with good youngsters and a healthy transfer budget.

thanks :)
I've made my decision...

Sam Illyroy to stay with Bordeaux
Sam Illyroy has today announced his decision to remain with Bordeaux for at least another season as he looks to build on the success of last season.
With pre-season ending, all the latest transfer goss and team news will be updated soon.

Weeeeeeeeeeeey hes staying XD

Good luck this season, hopefully you can make inroads into Europe.

WOW great story loving the layout are u gonna leave now u have won the league

THE EUROPA CHALLENGE RETURNS

After far too long out, I have returned to this game, but as I am already into January, I will give you an update..

moz-screenshot-6.jpg
BORDEAUX-001.jpg

After a superb end of season finale, in which Bordeaux won the Ligue 1 of France for the first time under Sam Illyroy, the club went to work re-moulding the club for the new season, in which they would challenge for the Champions League..

Sam Illyroy said:
I'm delighted to be staying at this club for another season at least, and I think with enough backing and a bit of luck, we can go far in every competition.

Pre-Season Transfers

OUT

First of all, we said goodbye to a couple of fringe players, who moved on to pastures green:

76098_BORDEAUX_JUSSIE_031208.jpg

After remaining on the fringe of the first team for much of last season, Jussie decided to make a move away from the Stade Chaban Delmas, opting to join Rangers on loan for a season, until his contract with les Girondins expires.

23462_news.jpg

Marc Planus, former captain under Laurent Blanc, sealed a move to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer after his contract expired.

sertic_diaporama.jpg

Gregory Sertic, a man tipped for glory with Bordeaux, failed to live up to high expectations last season and has now moved on to Hamburg of Germany on a free transfer, after Bordeaux opted against renewing his contract.

600_x_400.jpg

After gaining cult status at Bordeaux with some absolutely stunning goals, Yannick Djalo made a 6.5m move to Turkey, where he wil this season play for Bursaspor, following the arrival of new strikers at Bordeaux.

1031441836.jpg

Finally, youngster Johan Carrasso, younger brother of former Bordeaux number 1 Cedric Carrasso, made a move to Real Madrid, after becoming third choice at the Stade Chaban Delmas.

IN

Having made a fair amount of money in selling players, Bordeaux turned their eye to the transfer market to hunt for fresh blood in their title bid...

ochoa-guillermo.jpeg

Guillermo Ochoa, highly regarded as one of the greatest keepers in the world, joined les Girondins on a free transfer after his contract with America expired in the summer. He arrives with high expectations, but is more than able to fulfill them.

_44259511_babel_getty.jpg

Likewise, Liverpool's Ryan Babel makes the move to Bordeaux on a free transfer, after failing to settle at the Reds. He has blistering pace and great ability on the ball.

Bordeaux then spent 8m on one of the most highly rated youngsters in Europe at this moment, Pereira. The Brazilian can play in the centre of defence, as a defensive midfielder or in centre midfield, and his former manager at Standard had this to say of him:

Standard Liege Head Coach said:
This kid is one of the greatest prospects in world football. His technical skills and knowledge of the game puts him heads and shoulders above the players in my team, and that is with no disrespect to them.

ganso.jpg

Pereira in his Brazil days

Raphael Le Roy and Petr Vachal are two highly rated defenders who also joined this season, looking to break into the first team in the coming seasons.

MID WAY REVIEW

After a fantastic start to the new season, les Girondins are flying high once more, at the top of Ligue 1. With the cup tournaments yet to kick off, we have only been focusing on the league and that has only been to our favour so far. Ochoa has had a brilliant start to his Bordeaux career, making some vital saves, and the new strike force of Vagner Love and Diabate is flourishing up front.

Goals have been flying in all over the place, and we also came second in our group stage in the CHampions League, having had to play against Juventus, Ajax and Olympiakos, no easy games at all!

I will be going back to the month by month reviews after this, until the end of this season, where I will once again decide on my future, before continuing on my road to managerial glory in Europe!

ligue_1.png

Good to see that you found your way back to this.
Ochoa is decent and Babel is alright as well, good deal getting both on a free. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Hey im new to this now and following this story with anticipation. Keep up the good work and im looking forward to the next update! :)

Cool story man and very good challenge but you do realise that the SPL isn't really a major league? It's ranked like 16th in Europe and they only get 4 places in Europe.

im excited to see how you get on :D, my laptop still broken looks like i will lose Coventry save and ill prob start a new game on old PC. thinking of following your challenge. best of luck
