yeah it was an absolute shocker. i was just speechless after that loss. sorry yeah I'll do it at the end of april yer.

not the best month you had there. With Real it was kinda expected as they´re tough to beat especially coming into the match with a defeat from the 1st leg. Atleast you still have an advantage in the league :)

yeah sorry guys next update should come today, but was at thorpe park yesterday xD should come soon.

Thorpe park, I went there like 3 years ago. Its class :D

Looking forward to the update. Updating my Ajax story later if you wanna look.

April 2012

Following a tough March, I backed the players to bounce back this month, and 7 points out of 12 isn't a bad month, but there's some improvement needed if we are to run out at the end of May as Ligue 1 champions.

Sunday 8th April 2012
Girondins Bordeaux 2:2 OM
Ligue 1, Matchday 31
Brandao2.jpg

Brandao's late header dropped 2 crucial points for Bordeaux.
Arguably one of our least prosperous teams to face in the past couple of years, Olympique Marseille always pose a threat with the quality in their side, and the organisation they possess.
Despite that, we made the best start possible with Michael Ciani announcing his return to the first team with a powerful header from Defour's corner to give us the lead.
But it was a corner for OM which gave them a way back into the match, the ball played short to Niang who turned before slamming home a brilliant right-footed shot.
With Lyon stumbling today, it was vital that Bordeaux grabbed a win, and it looked like they'd done that when in the 77th minute of the game, Michael Ciani rose highest again to once more slam home a brilliant header and look to give the points to the home side.
But a superb Taiwo cross with 9 minutes to go found Brandao break away from Kompany to head past the goalkeeper and give OM a valuable point.
Bordeaux remain atop the Ligue 1, but it was a killer way to finish this game.
Goalscorers: Ciani (37, 77)

Saturday 14th April 2012
Stade Rennais 0:1 Girondins Bordeaux
Ligue 1, Matchday 32
juventusxbordeaux_303721.jpg

Ciani won the game for Bordeaux as he continued his goalscoring form.
A team that certainly cannot be under-estimated, but it was once again down to the heroics of the brilliant Michael Ciani that we escaped the Stade de le Route de la Lorient with 3 points.
After just 11 minutes he rose high to head us into a 1:0 lead that we would, through sheer determination and hard graft, hold onto for the rest of the game and hold on to a valuable 3 points.
With Lyon again losing this 3 points was crucial, but we have seen Lille shoot up the table in the past couple of weeks and today they overtook Lyon in 2nd place, as they look to pose their own threat in the title race.
There can be no slip-ups.

OGC Nice 0:1 Girondins Bordeaux
Ligue 1, Matchday 33
Gourcuff-Chamakh.png

In this televised match, it was Chamakh (left) who won the day with a late header.
You have to battle through tough games, and there was no doubt that this was one of those games, as it took a long time to break down a strong Nice side.
It took a superb header 15 minutes from time by Marouane Chamakh to settle this affair, but Bordeaux took a crucial blow with the injury of the superb Benoit Tremoulinas.
Just a minute before the goal, he was brought down in a heavy challenge by Emerse Fae and suffered a broken ankle, which will keep him out of the EURO's this summer.
But the 3 points were, on the day, the most vital thing as Lille once again won to stay just 4 points behind Bordeaux.
Next comes relegation-threatend Grenoble, but of course we have seen time and time again that no team can be under-estimated.
Goalscorers: Chamakh (75)

Girondins Bordeaux 0:0 Grenoble Foot 38
Ligue 1, Matchday 34
2010-03-07T225401Z_01_APAE6261RGX00_RTROPTP_2_OFRTP-FOOTBALL-L1-BORDEAUX-20100307.JPG

Cedric Carrasso was frustrated with his teammates forward play.
In a frustrating affair at the Stade Chaban-Delmas today, neither side was able to come out with the 3 points, but Grenoble will of course be the happier of the two sides. The point sees them stay in touch with the rest of the pack, just 2 points behind 4th from bottom Toulouse, surprise relegation-candidates.
Grenoble rarely offered anything up front, but the narrow approach that Bordeaux took to the game allowed Grenoble to soak up all of their pressure and in the end ensure a frustrating game for the hosts, as they looked instead to win corners and score goals from there.
It leaves them just 2 points clear at the top with 4 games left to be played. It couldn't be much closer.

So 4 matches left of the season..
I can tell you for sure that I am nervous. I will be doing match-by-match from here on in with live commentary so make sure you keep your eye out on this thread for live games. The next one will be at 3 o'clock today so be aware...

Here's the league table...

2-ligue-1-16.png

1. Girondins Bordeaux 76
2.
LOSC Lille Metropole 74
3.
Olympique Lyonnais 68
4.
OM 63*
5.
Paris Saint-Germain 58*
6.
FC Nantes 57*

As you can see, the champions Lyon have really dropped out of the race in the past couple of weeks and our new title rivals are LOSC Lille Metropole, the 2009/2010 league champions.

It's going to be very, very close...

good luck for your last few games this season, looks like it´s gonna be a close one

AS Saint-Ettiene 0:0 Girondins Bordeaux

19:00 KO

18:15:
Welcome then to the Stade Geofrey Guichard in Saint-Ettiene, where Ligue 1 leaders Bordeaux take on 7th placed Saint-Ettiene in a crucial battle. Will there be any twists and turns today?

18:36: Girondins Bordeaux
Carrasso, Riise, Zuiverloon, Ciani, Kryvtsov, Kompany, Defour, Wendel, Hamdi, Diaby, Chamakh
Saint Ettiene
Plante, Mignot, Perrin, Haggui, Benaloune, Maiga, Tette, Gelson Fernandes, Sako, Floccari, Bergessio

18:45: Well without a doubt a few surprises in there, especially the inclusion of Bilal Hamdi, who hasn't started a single game for Les Girondins all season. But with key players Gourcuff and Javi Garcia out, it gives Kompany a chance in the midfield to show what he's got and it will be a crucial game for him too. 15 minutes til kick off.

19:00:
kickoff.gif
Will that decision to include Hamdi be vindicated? We shall see. We're underway in a huge game here tonight. It's a full fixture list and the goals from the Lille game will also be notified here live.

19:15: Very little to talk about so far at the Stade Gouchard, Defour and Kompany have both had some speculative efforts but they've gone over. Bordeaux in control, but not making any real chances as of yet.

19:17: Much more like it from Bordeaux. Riise sends a lovely pass over the top of the defence which Wendel runs onto before dropping back into Defour who's shot is parried wide. Great work from Wendel.

19:18: And Bordeaux have the ball in the back of the net, as Ciani heads home a brilliant Wendel corner, but the linesman has pulled it back for a foul on the defender. Contentious that.

19:21:
Saint-Ettiene just remind Bordeaux that they're there as Maiga plays a tempting ball into the box but Kryvtsov does brilliantly to intercept and play the ball out.

19:26: Bordeaux are playing some nice stuff over on that right-hand side, with Zuiverloon and Hamdi connecting well together. The latter sends in a delicious ball but Chamakh just can't guide it home.

19:35: Lovely play by Maiga there as he pulls out wide on the counter, before playing it into Floccari but his vicious shot is tipped brilliantly wide by Carrasso.

19:45:
_46175652_ht_44x.jpg
HALF TIME AS Saint-Ettiene 0:0 Girondins Bordeaux
So it's all square at the half-way point with neither side managing to break through. Bordeaux have looked the more dangerous but will need to make some more clear-cut chances if they're too get a win out of this game.

19:52: The other crucial game in the title build-up remains all square as well so we're in for a **** of a second half as both those two teams must surely go for the win.

20:00:
kickoff.gif
subs-feed.gif
Bordeaux make a change at the half-way point as Vukcevic replaces the ineffective Abou Diaby. And we're off.

20:01: Bordeaux make a very bright start with Vukcevic linking the front 4 up brilliantly before letting fly, but wins just a corner.

20:10: More possession and long range shots from Bordeaux but just no end product at the moment. Surely something has to change?

20:12: End to end stuff there. Floccari is played in brilliantly on the counter-attack but is halted by the feet of Carrasso before Riise seconds later wins a corner the other end with a beautifully weighted shot.

20:14:
subs-feed.gif
Interesting gamble there from the Bordeaux manager as
Pavlyuchenko replaces Chamakh, who has been largely anonymous.

20:24: And now it's Saint-Ettiene starting to put more influence on the game. Carrasso twice comes to Bordeaux's rescue, firstly parrying a brilliant header from Floccari before reacting to beat wide a powerful volley from Haggui. Close stuff.

20:27:
subs-feed.gif
Final roll of the dice for Bordeaux. Henri Saivet replaces Balil Hamdi who to be fair has had a good game.

20:35: An incredible miss! Bordeaux are pushing high up into Saint-Ettiene's half, and are caught on the break and Floccari meets a header, 4 yards out and heads it well over. The manager's head is in his hands.

20:43: This game is nearly reaching its climax, and again it's Floccari with a chance, taking on two players before hitting it straight at Carraso. Bordeaux try to break but Defour is offside. 2 minutes of normal time to go.

20:46:
_46175651_ft_44.jpg
AS Saint Ettiene 0:0 Girondins Bordeaux
That is it, it's all over. In the end it is not 2 points dropped as Lille were also held by USBCO, but it keeps the title race as close as ever.
Here is the top 6 again:
1. Girondins Bordeaux 77
2.
LOSC Lille Metropole 75
3.
Olympique Lyonnais 69
4.
OM 66
5.
FC Nantes 61
6.
Paris Saint-Germain 59

Nantes might yet pip PSG to a Europa League spot!
3 games left in Ligue 1. Could it be any tighter up at the top? Until next game, a bientot.

Live Text Commentary

21:00 KO

20:30:
We've got a late game on our hands today as Bordeaux host Lens. Lens are in mid-table at the moment and it won't be an easy game for Bordeaux, but they've got to be going for a win here today.

20:38: Girondins Bordeaux
Carrasso, Riise, Zuiverloon, Ciani, Kryvtsov, Defour, Camoranesi, Wendel, Vagner Love, Gourcuff, Chamakh
RC Lens
Runje, Badime, Aurier, Dalku, Yahia, Koveacevic, Bellugou, Sow, Roudet, Boukari, Dindane

20:47: Quarter of an hour to go, and Bordeaux's squad list holds 3 changes to the side who drew against AS Saint-Ettiene. 4 games without conceding is reflected by an unchanged back four, but Camoranesi, Vagner Love and Gourcuff come in to boost their attacking options.

21:00:
kickoff.gif
And they're off at the Stade Chaban Delmas. Can the home fans roar their players to a vital home victory?

21:04: Boukari has the first chance for Lens as he heads over a Kovacevic corner.

21:16: Bourdeaux edge their way back into the game with some nice football, but they've taken a blow as Camoranesi pulls up after playing in a pass for Gourcuff. He's going to have to be substituted methinks...

21:20:
subs-feed.gif
And Gouffran will replace the injured Camoranesi for Bordeaux.

21:28: Defour has a powerful shot from range, but it is tipped just wide and Gourcuff is unable to take advantage of the ensuing corner kick.

21:32: Cracking stuff, that's what they need. Vagner Love picks up the ball outside the box before taking on two players and sliding a cool shot towards the far corner but Runje stretches just far enough to tip the ball wide with one hand. Great effort.

21:33:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
LOSC Lille Metropole 1:0 FC Nantes
Key goal for Lille as they pull ahead thanks to Zapotocny. That puts them level on points with Bordeaux, just goal difference seperates them now. Bordeaux must score.

21:42: Ciani has a good chance for Bordeaux as they again dominate, but he heads it over. Surely they have to score soon? No goals in 3 games and this really is a goal drought for les Girondins.

21: 46:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 0:1 RC Lens (Daliku)
Ooohhh dear, and the pressure really is on for Bordeaux now. They have gone a goal behind, right on the stroke of half-time. Boukari swung the ball in and Daliku rose above Ciani to head Lens in front. Game on.

21:47:
yellow_card.png
Frustration there from Defour as he lashes out after losing the ball. Silly free-kick to give away.

21:48:
_46175652_ht_44x.jpg
Half time Girondins Bordeaux 0:1 RC Lens
It's all to play for in the second half as Bordeaux are again punished for their profligacy. It's frustrating times for fans of Bordeaux as they dominate but fail to make chances pay, or even make chances.

21:50:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
LOSC Lille Metropole 2:0 FC Nantes
And if Bordeaux fans wanted any worse news, they have it as Lille go 2-0 up against European hopefuls Nantes. They have to win in this second half, as Pierre Alain-Frau doubles Lille's advantage.

22:00:
kickoff.gif
Crazy first half of football as les Girondins were superior in every department, but still go in a goal down. 1-0 to Lens and they need to give it everything now, Bordeaux.

22:02:
yellow_card.png
Stupid from Gourcuff. He is meant to be leading the line but that's a shocking tackle. Could have gone for that.

22:03: PENALTY TO BORDEAUX

22:04:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 1:1 RC Lens (Gourcuff pen)
That's the breakthrough they needed. It's all square again and they certainly deserved it. Bordeaux broke from a Lens attack and Wendel received the ball wide left, before cutting inside and was brought down rashly by Yahia. Gourcuff made up for his yellow card with a great penalty and it's all level again. The Stade Chaban Delmas is rocking!

22:10:
yellow_card.png
Another yellow for Bordeaux and it's Riise this time, as he hacked down his man on the counter. They can't afford to lose anyone at this stage.

22:15:
yellow_card.png
Now it's Lens turn to get a yellow card as Samba Sow goes in recklessly on Defour.

22:18:
subs-feed.gif
It's a Bordeaux sub, and Eidur Gudjohnsen replaces Vagner Love for this final half an hour.

22:21: GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 2:1 RC Lens (Wendel)

22:22:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
CORRECTION GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 2:1 RC Lens (Yahia o.g.)
Bordeaux take the lead, deservedly and it's Wendel again with the assist, and he has tourmented the unfortunate Yahia this whole game. He breaks wide thanks to a brilliant Gourcuff pass and cuts inside before shooting goalwards but it takes a deflection off the leg of Yahia and beats the goalkeeper. 25 minutes to go. Will they push on or sit back?

22:25:
subs-feed.gif
Last roll of the dice and Chamakh, who has had a good game, is replaced by Yannick Djalo for Bordeaux. 20 minutes remain at the Stade Chaban Delmas.

22:28: Incredible chance for RC Lens, as Boukari is played in behind the defence but he absolutely scuffs his shot wide of the goal. Goal kick.

22:36: Great opportunities at both end, as Carrasso comes to Bordeaux's rescue before Yahia comes across brilliantly to deny Wendel just as he was about to pull the trigger. Just under 10 minutes left.

22:41:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL Girondins Bordeaux 3:1 RC Lens (Yannick Djalo)
A lovely goal for Bordeaux and that should put this game to bed. Gudjohnsen does brilliantly to catch a dead ball, before turning back and playing in Defour. The RC Lens try to step up, but Defour plays his ball behind the defence and Yannick Djalo, who has timed his run perfectly, gets in and smashes home. That should be it for today.

22:47: FULL TIME Girondins Bordeaux 3:1 RC Lens
Huge, huge result and Bordeaux remain two points clear at the top after that second half comeback. After failing to score in the previous two games, 3 second half goals should bring back the confidence, which could be vital in the final two games of the season.

"I'm delighted with the result, and there can be no doubt we deserved it. We were unlucky to be punished in the first half but that is football and we reacted and got a great result. I'm over the moon."

bordeaux-y-croit-toujours_actus.jpg

Bordeaux celebrate as Wendel's cross is deflected in.

sheeeesssh that was a crazy game. 3-1, can't say we didn't deserve it but I was scared we were going to drop behind Lille :| that would have been a nightmare! thanks for following the games today :) hopefully more will be coming asap.

AS Nancy-Lorraine 1:0 Girondins Bordeaux

19:00 KO

18:14:
Big game here for Bordeaux. There are 2 games left in the Ligue 1 season, and Bordeaux are 2 points clear of Lille Metropole. Lille face Monaco this evening as well in a late kick-off so updates will be coming from that game too. But for Bordeaux it's a chance to get revenge for that Coupe de la Ligue loss in March.

18:17: The biggest question for Bordeaux is who they will replace Defour and Riise with, as they will both serve a suspension for this game. With no Tremoulinas available, after he suffered a broken ankle, so it will be interesting to see who comes in instead.

18:27: AS Nancy-Lorraine
Bracigliano, Kone, Loties, Dielna, Ouaddou, Dia, Feret, Gavanon, Ca, Bakar, Audel
Girondins de Bordeaux
Carrasso, Obenans, Zuiverloon, Kryvtsov, Ciani, Kompany, Gouffran, Wendel, Vagner Love, Gourcuff, Chamakh

18:36: So big surprise in the Bordeaux line-up as 19 year-old Obenans is drafted in for his Ligue 1 debut. Is that a gamble too much from the Bordeaux manager? We're about to find out. As for Nancy, Gavanon, the goalscorer in the Coupe de France Quarter-Final gets a start against Bordeaux and Bakar, who missed a great chance in the final gets a start too. A lot on hanging on this game.

19:00:
kickoff.gif
The games underway; hold on to your seats, this should be a cracker.

19:02: Well it's Nancy who have the first chance as Djelna latches on to a free kick to head goalwards, unmarked, but he heads it straight at Carrasso and the ball is cleared. Early scare for les Girondins.

19:06: Comedy moment as Nancy receive a thrown-on, only for Feret to throw it back out for a Bordeaux throw. Up the other end, Ciani heads a corner narrowly over.

19:12: Oh brilliant stuff there. Obenans cuts in before playing a ball to Vagner Love who flicks it first time behind the defence and Gouffran hits it, but it's straight at the keeper and out for a corner.

19:16: Another cracking save from Bracigliano as he gets across his goal to parry a Wendel shot. It's well worth noting he was the man of the match in that Coupe de la Ligue final, and Bordeaux are gonna have a hard time getting past him again today.

19:21:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL AS Monaco FC 0:1 LOSC Lille Metropole (Cabaye pen)
Lille take the lead through a penalty, which puts them level on points with Bordeaux. Pressure on.

19:24: Ciani gets high to head a corner goalwards, but it just clips the bar. He is lethal from set pieces.

19:31: Fantastic wide play from Wendel, as he pulls out wide before swinging a lethal ball across but Chamakh can't get a good enough connection on it and it goes straight down Braciligano's throat.

19:36: Djelna again gets on the end of a free kick but he hits it straight at the side netting. Wendel has just been carried off with a knock; Bordeaux will hope it's not serious, he's been brilliant the past 2 games.

19:46: It's fair to say that Nancy are playing as much as they can down that right side, but so far Obonans has dealt with it quite well. He is beaten there though, and just gets away with it as Bakar slices his shot wide.

19:47:
_46175652_ht_44x.jpg
HALF TIME AS Nancy-Lorraine 0:0 Girondins Bordeaux
That's the half-way point in this game and as yet no breakthrough. Obenans has had a good debut, but they lack that critical push and consistency in their line-up to have threatened enough yet. I think Defour is a key miss today, and Kompany has a lot of work on him to live up to Defour's ability.

19:53: With Lille leading again, the pressure is on Bordeaux once more to come out and really give it a go this half. Can they avenge the defeats with a crucial win here today?

20:00:
kickoff.gif
subs-feed.gif
Back underway, and Bordeaux replace the injured Wendel with Vukcevic. Crucial miss that, as Wendel has been right in form of late, but Vukcevic has settled in well. How will they fare second half?

20:03: Too close for comfort. Gourcuff is in behind the defence well then but skies it over. Ouaddou is then behind Bordeaux's defence seconds later, but just smashes into the side netting.

20:11:
subs-feed.gif
Sertic replaces the dissapointing Chamakh for Bordeaux.

20:12:
_46175646_net_buster_44.jpg
GOAL AS Nancy-Lorraine 1:0 Girondins Bordeaux (Djelna)

Crushing blow for Bordeaux, straight after their substitution. A corner is whipped in and Ouaddou heads it on towards the back-post where Djelna is on hand to head into the back of the net. They have to go for it now, surely?

20:15: Vagner Love has a brilliant chance to pull Bordeaux level when Sertic plays him in behind the back-four but he hits it well over on the turn.

20:24:
subs-feed.gif
With a last roll of the dice, Saivet is brought on for Gouffran. It's all or nothing for Bordeaux.

20:34: He just loves playing Bordeaux. That is a world-class save. Kompany gathers the ball outside the box and hits it sweetly as you like and it's going top corner until Bracigliano dives across his box to somehow tip the ball over with a superb right hand. Amazing save.

20:35: PENALTY TO BORDEAUX

20:36:
_46253405_goal_post_v2_44.jpg
PENALTY MISSED (Gourcuff)
Incredible scenes. Ciani is pushed over following the corner after Bracigliano's save. And Up steps Gourcuff to take the penalty and he smashes it against the post. Bordeaux stay a goal behind. How unlucky.

20:46: FULL TIME AS Nancy-Lorraine 1:0 Girondins Bordeaux
They've done it again. Three crucial, crucial games, and Nancy Lorraine have put the league in Lille's hands, as they have a 2 goal lead over Bordeaux in the championship race. A crucial, crucial penalty miss from Gourcuff and that could be the moment that they lose the title.

Bourdeax youngster Obenans makes his first start for the club.

ah that´s gutting, it´s Lille who are 1st now by one point right? shame that Gourcuff missed the penalty :S

yes it's ******* annoying. I thought we were gonna get let off the hook again with a penalty but we weren't :@ typical fm, we deserved a win too, played better than them. just can't get my strikers scoring at all.

yeah i noticed, with Gourcuff being your top scorer. Well now the season´s almost over anyhow, so changing things won´t make a difference. If you decide to stay with Bordeaux for another season i can try and help with the the roles for your strikers, should there be any need for it.

Depends on what system he is trying to play really, by the amount of goals Gourcuff is scoring im guessing hes a sort of a inside forward AM. Maybe hes conflicting with the strikers or something or not providing them with enough chances.

Yeah i know it depends on the system, nonetheless i think the striker/s should still be scoring more than an inside fwd. I think i only had it happen once that a midfielder scored more than my strikers. And it´s not so much about the strikers not having chances, but missing them. He himself said that his strikers have difficulties with scoring, that´s why i offered help, because it may have to do with the roles they´re assigned to. :)
