Newcastle United have not had their best start under Hutchinson and could possibly find themselves outside of the top four if they lost today. It was a dream start for Newcastle as, after several attacks, they won a penalty which Gylfi Sigurdsson duly converted in the 16th minute. The Magpies then doubled their lead just six minutes later after Christian Eriksen won the ball in Chelsea's half and played a lovely through ball to Danny Welbeck who made no mistake and slotted home. The turning point of the match came in the 29th minute which saw Cheik M'Bengue sent off for a professional foul, this changed the game. After making several adjustements at half time Newcastle couldnt seem to disguise the fact they were a man down as one minute after the interval Chelsea's Juan Mata knocked the ball into the box which Nani ran onto and tucked away. Then a silly tackle from Tiote brought Nani down in the box and Ashley Cole converted the penalty. Newcastle effectively saw the rest of the game out with 6 at the back.

Players on both teams were evidently tired due to slight fixture congestion but Newcastle managed to put that to one side and pulled out the 3 points. After dictating the opening exchanges Newcastle broke the deadlock in the 27th minute after Christian Eriksen played a nice little chip through to Pierre Aubameyang who kept calm and found space before easily tapping in. However the fatigue soon began to show in the black and white and Tottenham capitalized in the 39th minute through a Scott Parker pearler. Through the second half both teams were quickly becoming tired but it needed one attack from Newcastle late on in the 81st minute which was finished with Adam Johnson tucking in from a tight angle after an Aubameyang cross.

Toon stumble at Old Trafford

Newcastle United travelled to Manchester with a point to prove as critics are gathering claiming they are not the same caliber as last season. They fought throughout the game but just couldn't find the net, they had shots blocked, hit the post/bar, cleared off the line and goals ruled out. Exhaustion and frustration evidently got the better of the Magpies as they failed to re-gather as Man United counter attacked with Jones dinking the ball into Ashley Young who tooked it away in the 81st minute. Newcastle have now lost two this season, two more than the whole of last season.

Toon back among the wins at Norwich

Newcastle United fans were looking to reply to their defeat at Manchester United last time out and Hutchinson's wise words must of worked wonders in his pre-match talk at Norwich. Newcastle started the game and it was obvious they came to have a go at Norwich and they attacked relentlessly, this paid off in the 28th minute as Nathaniel Clyne broke free down the right to knock the ball in for Marco Verratti who only had to put it into an open net. The young Italian midfielder has been a regular name on the squad sheet for Newcastle this season after massivley impressing on his loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, with a record of Playing 42, Scoring 9, Assisting 16. Newcastle got another in the 44th minute as Aubameyang bombed down the right before crossing in for Papiss Demba Cisse who touched it down with his left then tucking away with his right. Newcastle wrapped it up in the 71st minute after a Danny Welbeck shot was parried into the feet of Pierre Aubameyang who you wouldnt bet on missing.

Newcastle United showed a great deal of character at the Boleyn ground today to earn the 3 points. The first half included nothing much of note with all the excitement coming in the second half. West Ham took the lead just 30 seconds after the restart with Baldock playing the ball into Jack Collison who smashed the ball home from close range. It took Newcastle 10 minutes to pick themselves up and move forward and they equalised in the 55th minute after a Papiss Demba Cisse shot was parried back into his own feet before he masterly back-heeled the ball into the path of Danny Welbeck who tucked it into the far post. It was then Cisse himself who put Newcastle ahead in the 64th minute after he rose high to convert an Aubameyang cross. Welbeck turned provider for Cisse in the 82nd minute after he played him through for the Senegalese hitman to cleverly finish with his left foot. Steven Taylor put the game beyond doubt in the 89th minute with a half volley from a Vertonghen flick on.

As the Barclays Premier League was hit by snow this weekend a lot of games were postponed but not that of Newcastle-Everton whom battled on in the wintery conditions. Newcastle started very well and won a penalty early on which allowed Yohan Cabaye to tuck it away in the 11th minute, there has been specualtion that the Magpies are looking to offload the creative Frenchman but this has not been confirmed by Newcastle nor Yohan himself. Newcastle's lead was doubled in the 39th minute after Danny Welbeck struck a shot which cannoned of Joseph Yobo to ensure an own goal for the Nigerian centre back. Papiss Demba Cisse wrapped the win up in the 56th minute after Marco Verratti played him through and the Senegalese star tucked it into the near post to earn his 11th goal of the season. Everton picked up a consolation goal in the 86th minute from Nikica Jelavic.

Newcastle needed a win today to jump back up to the top spot in the Premier League after experiencing a start that has failed to be superior over other teams. Newcastle took the lead with just 2 minutes on the clock after Davide Santon whipped the ball in and Adam Johnson rose to excecute a looping header to score. It only took them 3 minutes to double their lead after Cheik M'Bengue knocked the ball in, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang chested it down and struck to beat Given at his near post. Newcastle added a third in the 22nd minute when Icelandic playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson netted a penalty to put Newcastle 3 up before half time. Danish wonderkid Christian Eriksen got onto the end of a wonderfully placed Sigurdsson freekick to score a header from close range. Darren Bent was sent off for Villa in the 51st minute much to the delight of the Geordie faithful due to his Wearside background, Magpies then completed the humiliation in the 53rd minute when Mohamed Diame scored a brilliant effort from the corner of the box. Hutchinson claimed after the game that Diame has been superb for his team this term and hailed the £3m man from PSG the 'bargain of the season,' Diame has made 13 appearences for Hutchinson's side with 1 goal and 2 assists.
Man of the Match - Mohamed Diame
