I loaded the database up, but placed Michael Laudrup as Manager using the database editor, then loaded a game and started unemployed, by the end of the season Barcelona grabbed a playoff spot and got promoted. Pretty good imo, Montoya didn't want to leave in my save though.

If only Barcelona could fall down the leagues like in the story.....

Off topic, though, are players allowed to leave the club without running their contract down during a transfer embargo (not under Bosman ruling like Montoya here)?

Too bad this story ended, it was one of the most interesting on this forum, I was really enjoying this!
 
A real pity he seems to have gone!

I took the plunge with this, mid-table in the first season, promoted as champions in the 2nd, promoted as champions again in the 3rd, mid table finish and Spanish Cup champions the 1st year in top division. Now in the Euro-Cup and eyeing Champions league football next season. Also, a certain Mr Messi has let his contract run down at Bayern, and is looking for a Bosman move back to his spiritual home!!

This was a fun challenge!
