Hello fellow members.

After playing around on a website that was found out a few hours ago with other members (and finding it fun) we decided to make a thread. A tournament if you will. The FM-Base HaxBall tournament.

Incase you do not know what it is, HaxBall is a free multiplayer game where people can create public and private rooms to then compete against one another in 1 v 1's, 2 v 2's and so on. It can even reach full-sized elevens.

Entering HaxBall

You first put in a nickname as presented and then click the 'Play Now!' button as presented. You will then enter the Room List, whereby hundreds of people host and join rooms created by others - be it nationally or continentally. Usually the ones at the top are the ones with the nearest connections to your own, and going further down the list showns ones further away and possibly much poorer.

You can create your own room from the list of options on the right-hand side, put in a name and then a password if you wish to not have outsiders come in and sabotage your game. Or, you can join a room by clicking on the pre-existing ones from the Room List. Sometimes these will be protected by a password that only host and those invited to will know, or they will be full-up from other people already competing/about to compete.

Rooms and Players

When you've created the room, you can also select whether or not everyone can administrate the room (i.e. select who is on what team, and who is kicked from it due to several reasons), as well as decide upon if you want to see who enters and leaves the room. The maximum amount of players allowed in the room is 22 players, and you can edit the name of the room to whatever you like, as long as it's within the maximum amount of characters available given.

When you have created your room, or entered a host's room, there are several things available at your disposal. You can:

  • Edit what team you're on by either dragging your name onto either the Red or Blue team. The same can be done with others in your room by clicking, holding and dragging their name onto either team and they can do it themselves.
  • Change the score limit, time limit and pitch size by the arrows correlated on the right-hand side of the numbers that preside what they are (i.e. up to 5 goals, 5 minute time limit and goes over if tied, big pitch size)
  • Chat to the other members by pressing the TAB button on your keyboard, or by clicking in the space.
  • Record the match by clicking on the 'Rec' button at the top. It will be indicated at the top with a red button and in the chat box. Once you have finished recording, you can save the file on your computer for further use, or watch it again in the room list.
  • Link to your friends and other members the room by clicking the link button in the top right-hand corner of the room, on the same tab as the name of your/the room. Just highlight all of the link and send it to others via e-mail, Facebook, chatroom, Twitter (etc.) They can then join at any time.

Controls

They differ amongst users, but usually people can go for the following combinations.

To move:

W + A + S + D

or

Left + Up + Down + Right

To kick the ball:

The Space button

The 'X' button

It takes a while to get used to, but not long, as they are very simple controls and even shown during the match. You will see the odd goal, but team-work and co-operation are vital in team matches if you are to come out as a winner.

The tournament

It has not been decided yet but team games will probably be the focal point of this tournament. 2 v 2's and 3 v 3's on certain pitch sizes will be the main aspects of this tournament. But for now, the more people that sign up, the better and the more teams can be allocated. This thread will be used for discussion and communication between opponents and team members, as well as the times, dates and opponents within the tournament. This OP will be updated regularly if this tournament gets off the ground and eventually have enough people to play a full-on tournament.

Just put your name down and it'll be added to the OP.

Thanks.

The best Haxball defender on the IRC channel reports in.

Totally up for it, had a lot of fun on it earlier.

PS: If we do 3v3: Me, Ronan and Foss will team up
;)

OP has been updated with the names signed up to the tournament. As noted, please use your FM-Base names on HaxBall to avoid confusion.

The teams may also be picked at random.

Okay, so we need four more players to get this tournament running and order the teams.

And, the teams will be at random, so the teams are not unfair and people don't register themselves with others which may come as a disadvantage to those who may not be as familiar with the game as others.

Two more and we can start Friday/Saturday.

One more.

Ok. That's it. We have 12 players for the HaxBall tournament.

The draw for the 3 teams of 4 will be made tomorrow, around the times of 12.00 Noon to 5.00 in the Evening. I re-iterate that the players will be drawn at random to avoid unfair teams. You will all be PM'ed (those who registered) who is in your teams, and further details on the matches that will be fixtured will also come available too.
