Think I've just seen the most exciting set up for a final day clash in all my time playing FM. On the last day, the table looked like this:
1. Man U - 85.5 points (current champions, effectively half a point ahead due to GD)
2. Arsenal - 85 points (aiming to break the Manchester strangehold on the title for the first time in 12 years)
3. Man City - 84 points (recovering from finishing a distant 5th last year)
(I'd already sewn up 4th and was playing a dead rubber.)
The fixtures: Arsenal had a gimme away to already-relegated Aston Villa. And United and City had nothing other than the Manchester derby at Old Trafford. So United needed to beat City to retain the title; City could win it by beating United if Arsenal slipped up.
Result: Arsenal slipped up - and contrived to lose 2-0 after conceding two penalties. Not that it mattered, because United won 1-0 - but it still looked like Arsenal's to lose for half an hour after United had Thiago sent off. But both United and Villa held on and United retained the title. Oh Arsenal!
