JULY & AUGUST Updates:
- Copa America Special -
- Group Stage -
We will start the Copa America with Group A. Featuring 3 nations represented by our players. Only 2 players were present though. Juan Pablo Miguel and Oswaldo Nino were representing their country Venezuela. The first match of the tournament was between Brazil and Venezuela. The country with an island named after a drink started the tournament with a shock result. Venezuela drew with Brazil 2-2 to their fans' surprise. Brazil were forced to come back twice to draw the game. Colombia on the other hand started the tournament with racing out of the gates. More specifically, Falcao. Scoring 4 goals in a 4-2 win over Mexico. Since their draw against Brazil, Venezuela unfortunately crashed out of the tournament by losing their next 2 matches. Losing 3-2 to Mexico and then 4-1 to Colombia. Brazil on the other hand were able to go through with a win and 2 draws. Colombia though, cruised through the Group Stages by winning 2 of their matches and drawing the 3rd. Falcao was on target all through the matches. Scoring a total of 8 goals in 3 matches.
In Group B, Benitez of Ecuador was the Player of the Group. Scoring 6 total goals in 3 matches, 2 a match, to give Ecuador 3 wins. Chile finished second in the group with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss, equal on points with USA. Uruguay had the 2nd worst record of all teams in the Group Stages by losing all their games and scoring only 2 goals on the way.
Group C saw Argentina dominate with 3 wins and scoring for fun, 10 goals in total. Their defense were rock hard as they never conceded a goal on the way. Martin Batistuta was even able to get on the score sheet by opening the scoreline in a 6-0 trashing of Bolivia during the last match of the Group round. Bolivia weren't so lucky as they also lost all their matches and scoring only 2 matches as well.

- 1/4 Finals -
The hottest team of the tournament, Argentina, were to face Mexico in the first match of the Quarter Finals. Argentina got off to a flying start to the match, scoring in the 11th minute. Only for Mexico to come back by scoring 3 unanswered goals. Argentina did score a goal in the end to close the gap, but it wasn't enough for a comeback. Falcao again put Colombia in a good position to win their match against USA. The Americans did come back to tie the game, but Rodallega had different ideas by scoring 5 minutes after USA had scored. The 3rd match saw Ecuador pitted against Paraguay. Paraguay's winning chances looked bleak after Barios got injured in the 3rd minute. Santander came to the rescue though. After going down 1-0, Santander scored 2 goals in succession to take Paraguay through to the Semi's. The last match to be played was between Brazil and Chile. Both team fought a hard match. It ended up going to extra time after the full time ended in a 1-1 draw. Brazil upped the tempo though and scored 2 goals to win the match 3-1.

- 1/2 Finals -
The semi finals saw 2 shocks. Mexico were able to stop the hottest player of the tournament by limiting Falcao to only 1 shot. Mexico were able to get a 2 goal lead. Colombia were only able to score in the 90th minute, which was too late for any sort of comeback. The second semis was between Brazil and Paraguay that saw another shock result. Paraguay played a very defensive game where Brazil were only able to get 2 shots out of 14 shots on target. The game was than decided on penalty shots where Paraguay went on to win it for, what many call, the shock of the tournament.

- Finals -
The game was an argy-bargy affair between Mexico and Paraguay. Resulting in 8 total yellow cards to be shown by the referee. Chicharito was quick to cancel out Valdez's go ahead goal. The game went the rest of the way without any of the teams scoring a game winning goal. Again, Paraguay were able to hold the line to take the game to penalty shoots for the second straight game running. This time, the penalty shoot won Paraguay the trophy after Mexico missed their 5th and 6th shots while Paraguay were able to pounce on the opportunity to score the 6th shot.

- CLUB NEWS -
Hulkster ended his 10 hour drought by scoring his 15th, and goal bonus, of the year. Since then, he has been firing on all cilinders. He has now a total of 20 goals in 34 matches played for Gremio this season. The team has also slipped up during his injury which now place them in 10th in the table.
The Cruzeiro have faired better over the past 2 months. Cameron has helped his club move up from 15th to 12th place. He has also raised his goal total to 17. The team has already lost 10 matches, which surely is unacceptable. Cameron also added 6 assists to his tally.
Javier Squeekles has made 8 appearances for Internacional, due to the reason of traveling with Bolivia to the Copa America, in which he was able to score a goal. In the 5 international matches he's played since June, he has scored 2 and assisted another. Internacional seem to have during his time out of the club action, as they dropped to 8th place in the Brazilian League.
Ignacio Ballena has found his career to be a smooth transition into Young Boys. He has already made 6 appearances for the Club in Europa League and has scored 6 already. In the league, which he made 3 starts, Ballena is yet to get off the mark. Though he did help Young Boys reach the Group Stages of the Europa League in which they will go head to head with Lille, FC Twente and Atletico Madrid. So this is the perfect stage for Ballena to prove his worth more than he has already.
Metalist is another club to make it into the Group Stages of the Europa League. Juan has been given a time off after his Copa America to recuperate to come back strong for the Europa Cup and the Ukrainian League. The Group consists of Austria Wien, Spartak Moskova and Napoli.
Since joining the club, Martin Batistuta has already scored 3 goals in 4 matches. Even though Marseille are in the Champions League, Batistuta is unallegible for the squad due to not being registered by the club. It seems that Martin will still have to prove himsefl further. Its understandable seeing how he just joined the club and was away on International Duty.
Since the restart of the Paraguayan Season, Oswaldo Nino has started in all 7 matches. The club did lose the first match of the restart and then went on to win 5 and draw the 7th. They are still in 3rd place, but closed the gap to first place Libertad. Unfortunately, after the last Copa Libertadores round against Oriente Petrolero, Oswaldo was red carded and he will be missing the next 3 Libertadores matches. It came at the worst time as they will be facing their League rivals, Libertad, 2nd Preliminary Round. The interest for Nino from Atletico Mineiro has subsided the past month.
