"Come and get us": Lavezzi Taunts Title Challengers

Summer signing, Ezequiel Lavezzi, has laid down the gauntlet to Manchester United and Manchester City ahead of two Premier League games against Liverpool and Arsenal, who have struggled so far. Chelsea find themselves top of the table, but only by a point. Lavezzi spoke in an interview with the Sun about Chelsea's season so far. "We have one trophy already and I am very happy with that, but we must go for more and on the top of our list is the Premiership. We are top of the table and the only way we will not be top if Man United and Man City can catch us." Lavezzi signed for Chelsea in the summer from Napoli and has been a key part to the side this season and has scored 8 goals in 36 starts in all competitions, as well as 20 assists.

Chelsea will play Liverpool in todays early kick off, whilst later in the day Manchester United play away at Stoke and Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur in a superb schedule to kick off the month. Liverpool lost 5-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and have lost their last two matches. Chelsea will be hoping to be 4 points clear of 2nd place come 3 o'clock.

Barclays Premier League
Anfield

Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea
(Ezequiel Lavezzi, Fernando Torres)
Ezequiel Lavezzi

Ezequiel Lavezzi stole the show on Merseyside as his quality performance ensure 3 points to his club. After his strong words were put on the back pages of most newspapers over the week, the winger showed that he isn't all talk and when the time is right he can step up and become a match winner. A goalless first half left fans wondering whether a goal was going to come. However after Ryan Bertrand and Fernando Torres came off the bench, Chelsea looked like a changed team as instantly the two substitutes combined to put Lavezzi through on goal to put Chelsea 1-0 up. In the 1st minute of injury time Fernando Torres sealed the victory with a goal back at Anfield, he refused to celebrate after the goal despite being booed as he came on the pitch. Liverpool left it very late to get a consolation goal through Luiz Suarez, but it wasn't enough and Chelsea marched on.

In the other games, Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at Stoke, whilst Man City drew 0-0 with Spurs.

European Champions League First Knock Out Round
2nd Leg
Stamford Bridge

Chelsea 5-1 AC Milan AET (5-4 Agg)
(Fernando Torres x3, Didier Drogba x2)
Fernando Torres

Massimo Ambrosini

Chelsea pulled off the impossible in what will go down as the best performance a team has ever made. Chelsea had two goals disallowed in what seemed a mammoth task to come from 3-0 behind to beat AC Milan. Milan looked to be going through on away goals in extra time, but Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres' goals secured Chelsea a win that will be one that'll be remembered by everyone in football. Pavel Glazkov ran onto the pitch after his sides heroics at the final whistle to celebrate with them as though they had won the trophy.

Chelsea trailed 3-0 from the first leg and knew exactly what was expected of them in front of their own fans. It took Fernando Torres 3 minutes to score his first. He scored his second after 37 minutes after a superb pass from Sime Vrsaljko. Pavel Glazkov's side were 1 goal away from equalling Milan at half time and must have gave a team-talk of a life time as his side came raring out of the tunnel and 7 minutes later Didier Drogba scored after some brilliant wing-play from Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Frank Lampard was replaced by Ibrahim Affelay as he struggled for fitness and Chelsea thought they had won it through Fernando Torres, but his goal was judged to be offside. Replays show the officials had been wrong on that occasion. Petr Cech made several brilliant saves to keep Chelsea within a shout of winning the game in extra time, and he did exactly that as the teams finished 90 minutes at 3-3 on aggregate.

Minutes after extra time started Fernando Torres thought he scored his hat trick but to again be pulled back by the referee as it didn't seem to be Chelsea's night after all. Moments later it looked like the end as Pablo Aimar sent the AC Milan fans into raptures 10 minutes into extra time. Chelsea never looked down and threw the kitchen sink at Milan. Ibrahim Affelay was the mastermind behind Didier Drogba's goal which levelled the scores at 4-4. but with AC Milan still going through on away goals.

Pavel Glazkov gathered his troops at the half way mark in extra time and looked the calmest man in the stadium as he issued instructions on what was to happen next. Romelu Lukaku replaced Ryan Bertrand and David Luiz replaced Sime Vrsaljko.

Chelsea had 15 minutes to score a goal. Massimo Ambrosini was shown a second yellow to give Chelsea a glimmer of hope as Chelsea kept bombarding the Milan area with long balls. John Terry picked the ball up on the half way line. He played it out wide to Juan Mata who took on two Milan players. He rolled the ball back to Ibrahim Affelay who found Fernando Torres in space and Torres scored the goal of his career to get his hat-trick. A beautiful half volley into the net. The rippling net was the most beautiful site any Chelsea fan could behold as Torres ran towards the supporters. Chelsea sat back and defended until the final whistle blew.

Chelsea made it through to the quarter finals in a heroic performance.

I am sorry about the short update guys, I thought that those two performances were worth their own update. I actually celebrated at the computer that win against Milan, it's one of the proudest moments in the game so far. I may do the rest of March later. Thanks a lot for your support and time in reading my story :)

March 2012 Part 2

Pavel Glazkov: "Bring it on!"

Chelsea's Russian manager, Pavel Glazkov, held a press conference at Stamford Bridge following their heroic win in Europe before a Premier League clash against Arsenal. "We face Arsenal on Saturday and our players are very tired from mid-week. But let that not misguide you. We are very much looking forward to settling some scores against Arsenal as we should have won last time, but I won't talk about that again." When asked about the clash against Arsenal and the clubs title challenge Glazkov said, "Bring it on! We are in great form and the players are on a high. Every player is playing well at the moment I really don't know who to play."

Barclays Premier League

Chelsea 3-0 Arsenal
(Didier Drogba x3)
Didier Drogba

Arsenal suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Chelsea and the combination of Juan Mata and Didier Drogba. Drogba connected with Juan Mata's cross to put the Blues 1-0 up after 15 minutes. After 23 minutes Torres was pulled down by Vermalen. Frank Lampard's spot kick was saved by Szczesny and Torres came close with the follow up. Arsenal were useless going forward and Chelsea held on to their lead at half time. 8 minutes after the break Mata's pass found Drogba who got his second of the game. Finally, Drogba got his hat-trick doing what Frank Lampard failed to do previously. Juan Mata was tripped by Andre Santos in the box and Drogba converted the spot kick. That was his 20th league goal in 22 games, equalling Rooney's 20 to make him top of the goal scoring charts the day before his 34th birthday.

Fulham 0-4 Chelsea
(Didier Drogba, Romelu Lukaku x2, Mbaye Niang)
Romelu Lukaku
John Arne Risse, Danny Murphy

Chelsea's demolition against 9-man Fulham, was soured by an injury that could see the end of Didier Drogba's season. The Ivorian striker got his team 1 up after 7 minutes against an in-form Fulham, who now sit 5th in the table. John Arne Risse was controversially sent off for a two-footed tackle on Raul Meireles, who was accused of diving. The first half ended at 1-0, but 3 minutes later Didier Drogba seemed in a lot of pain and was stretchered off, to a round of applause from every person in the stadium. It was later confirmed Didier had suffered a torn hamstring. Romelu Lukaku came on for Drogba and settled in straight away, with two goals before Danny Murphy was shown a straight red card for a two-footed tackle on Lucas Digne and tempers flared as Chelsea players were obviously upset with the horrific challenges in the game. It was Chelsea who had the last laugh as 17 year old, Mbaye Niang, scored his 5th goal in the FA Cup this season to complete the rout and send Chelsea into the FA Cup semi final at Wembley.

FA Cup Semi Final Draw

facupsemi.png

Newcastle knocked out Man Utd in the quarter finals and will be favourites to get into the final. Chelsea will play either Leicester City or Bolton Wanderers to get to the final. A possible all-Championship final is still on the cards.

Breaking Injury News

Ashley Cole has broken his foot in training yesterday. He will join Didier Drogba on the casualty list and will miss the remainder of the season and possibly Euro 2012. Youngsters; Ryan Bertrand and Lucas Digne, will have to step up into the left back role for the remainder of the season. On a better note, Sven Bender has resumed normal training following his groin strain, he remains doubtful for the clash against Stoke City.

Barclays Premier League
Brittania Stadium

Stoke City 1-0 Chelsea
Matthew Etherington

Chelsea's winning run in the Premier League came to an abrupt end at the Brittania Stadium. Peter Crouch's first half header was all that was need to see off Chelsea, as well as a string of good saves from Asmir Begovic as Pavel Glazkov was left wandering how his side didn't score. The defeat was worsened by the news of Sime Vrsaljko limping off, it was later stated that he will miss 5 weeks with a strained knee ligament. Sime will be the third first-team casualty of the week as Chelsea's squad gets smaller. Branislav Ivanovic is still not fit to play after his broken wrist. The loss ends Chelsea's 10-game winning streak in the League.

Champions League Quarter/Semi Final Draw

championssemi.png

Perhaps, the greatest teams in the planet will all feature in the Champions League Quarter finals. Chelsea take on a mammoth take of defeated Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid. One of which will play the winner of the Manchester derby. Bayern Munich and Arsenal will play it out to decide who will play either Inter Milan or favourites, Barcelona. What a draw!

Chelsea 3-1 Aston Villa

Frank Lampard

Pavel Glazkov rallied his depleted squad to get back to winning ways in a repeat of the Carling Cup final. 7 minutes in Stephen Warnock handled the ball and Lampard converted the penalty. Moments later Lampard played in Torres to double Chelsea's lead. In the second half Lucas Digne's cross was smashed in by Lampard for his 8th league goal of the season. There was more frustration for Chelsea as Romelu Lukaku limped off after pulling his hamstring and will see him out for 3 weeks. He is the fourth major loss of the month for Chelsea and could be a severe dent in their title aspirations.

European Champions League Quarter Final
Stamford Bridge

Chelsea 2-0 Real Madrid
(Juan Mata x2)
Juan Mata
Pepe

What a win for Chelsea. A squad plagued by injury overcame Real Madrid's strongest team and Glazkov will be delighted with his victory over Chelsea's former manager, Jose Mourinho. Juan Mata will grab the headlines with two first half goals and, to be honest, he should have had a hat trick. David Luiz's headed pass was prodded in by Juan Mata only 14 minutes in. After 26 minutes Daniel Sturridge's lay off was enough for Mata to grab his second. Cristiano Ronaldo thought he scored moments before half time but it was ruled out for offside. Pepe was shown a straight red for a late challenge on Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge was taken off injured from the challenge and will be out for 3 weeks with a sprained ankle. A great win for Chelsea and Champions League glory looks a real possibility this season.

Bolton Wanderers beat Leicester 5-0 to play Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final. Leeds beat Birmingham to play Newcastle in the other semi-final. The question on everyone's lips right now seems to be; "Will Chelsea win a quadruple this season?!"

Barclays Premier League
Carrow Road

Norwich 3-6 Chelsea
(Frank Lampard x4, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Ibrahim Affelay)
Frank Lampard

It rained goals at Carrow Road in an amazing game in the Barclays Premier League. 4 goals from Frank Lampard was the key to Chelsea's success to go three points ahead at the top of the table due to Man United losing to Man City. Mbaye Niang was hauled down in the area after 14mins and Lampard converted the penalty. Ezequiel Lavezzi made it two shortly before half time. Lampard put Chelsea 3-0 up after 49 minutes. Norwich pulled one back through Steve Morison, but Lampard scored again to seal his hat trick.

In the last 10 minutes of the game it was goals-galore in a mad ten minutes. Grant Holt made it 4-2, but Lampard's fourth put Chelsea 3 goals ahead again. Steve Morison scored his second to make it 5-3, but it still wasn't over as Ibrahim Affelay scored his first league goal for Chelsea in injury time.

Chelsea Player of the Month

There is no player of the month. I feel the whole team were brilliant and amazing results against; Liverpool, Arsenal and Norwich in the league followed by two heroic efforts against AC Milan and Real Madrid in the Champions League. It would be unfair to single out someone as the whole team has been brilliant.

Barclays Premier League Table

Chelsea still sit 3 points ahead of United with a superior goal difference. Fulham have stormed up the table and Wolves have pulled away from the bottom three, as Wigan drop into it. QPR won all their games in March and are now only 6 points off safety. QPR manager, Mike Phelan, won manager of the month for his efforts.

Yeah, the side are playing really well atm.. Big month ahead though ;)

Real Madrid 5-0 Chelsea (5-2 Agg)
Kaka

Injuries and suspensions finally caught up on a depleted Chelsea team as they were thrashed by Real Madrid. Chelsea put up a good fight up until half time and were only 1-0 down through Kaka and were looking for the away goal that would have won the tie. However, a very tired Chelsea team conceded 4 goals in the second half, despite the Blues playing quite well. Kaka completed his hat-trick and goals from Marcelo and Gonzalo Higuian were enough to finish off Chelsea's Champions League aspirations for the season.

Pavel Glazkov Slams FA

In a post-match news conference at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea manager, Pavel Glazkov, slated the FA's decision to make Chelsea play two league games with only one day of rest between two games against West Brom and Manchester City. "It is ridiculous. We just played Real Madrid on Wednesday so why not play West Brom on Sunday? And then to play Man City on Monday when we don't have any matches in the week. I am very angry and we have made an official complaint to the FA. They will be the ones who pay for this when John Terry and Lampard miss the Euros through injury because of this. Ashley Cole is already out for it. They're shooting themselves in the foot, we all saw what happened to Muamba and I am so angry that the FA think that these players can do this."

Glazkov's fury was obvious in his face and other managers in the Premier League seemed to back his decision. Sir Alex Ferguson stated; "He is right. These are human beings not robots." Man City manager, Roberto Mancini faces the same problem and has stood up for the Russian manager. "The FA need to look at this it is not good. In Italy this never happens and Italy win major competitions."

Barclays Premier League

Fernando Torres

Chelsea saw off West Brom by two goals in a hard-fought encounter. There was another injury to a striker for Chelsea as Mbaye Niang was caught by Yousuff Mulumbu and suffered broken ribs. This leaves Pavel Glazkov wondering who will partner Torres up front against Man City. After 10 minutes, Juan Mata played Torres through on goal and he confidently slotted the ball past Ben Foster. The game was very tiring on Chelsea legs and this could be seen through Mata and David Luiz being taken off at half time. In the 3rd minute of injury time Ibrahim Affelay got his 2nd league goal for the club after Torres' pass.

Another big defeat for Chelsea left the world of football wondering whether they have enough about them to win the title. Manchester United are on the same amount of points as Chelsea with 5 games to go, with City being 3 off the pace. Lucas Piazon made his first Chelsea start, as Pavel Glazkovs desperation left him with nowhere else to go. Man City took the a 3-0 lead into half time. Fernando Torres got a goal just after the break, but his team mates failed to rally and conceded once more. This is Chelsea's 2nd heavy loss in 3 games and it is starting to look very difficult for them to win anything, with an FA Cup Semi Final on the horizon.

The 18-year old showed the entire football world his capability.

Chelsea will play Leeds United in this seasons FA Cup final at Wembley. The Championship side overcame Newcastle to win 2-0 the day before. This will be there 5th FA Cup final, they have only won it once.

Torres and Mata then made sure Chelsea were 4-0 up at half time, shortly after Ezequiel Lavezzi was forced off after over-reaching for the ball. Torres got Chelsea off to a flyer after only 2 minutes. Lukaku got the second after 9 minutes. Olexy Gai handled the ball in the area and Lampard converted the penalty. Lukaku got his second before the half time whistle with a screamer. Coloccini gave away a penalty in the second half and Lukaku converted for his hat trick. Chelsea's first half demolition at Wembley gave them enough to see off Leeds United and win the 2012 FA Cup. Mikael Forssell nearly put Leeds infront after 5 minutes against his former club. However, it was Romelu Lukaku who stole the show as he latched onto Ibrahim Afellay's cross to put Chelsea 1-0 up. Two minutes later, Juan Mata's corner was headed in by the big-Belgian to make it 2-0 to Chelsea. After 29 minutes, Fernando Torres played the ball back to Juan Mata to put Chelsea 3-0 up.

Neither team managed to get a decent chance on goal in the second half until Leeds had a late goal disallowed for a hand-ball in the build up. Chelsea kept the ball and made sure there was no upset on the cards at Wembley, as they won the FA Cup and their second trophy of the season, without conceding a goal in the whole competition.

Swansea confirmed their Premier League status next season as they beat 10 men Manchester United, 1-0. This is a sensational read mate. I love they layout, the writing and the fact that your re-juvinating Chelski! Lukaku has been unstoppable and looks like a player I may have to look into signing for my Barcelona game. I think you should have a look at Javi Martinez, Muniain, Ganso, Pastore or Rodwell for signings this summer, but hey it's your game do your thing. honestly mate, This and Klippy's Athletic story are my fav reads atm! Keep it up!!

Thanks a lot Tobe :) I am definitely looking at Rodwell, Martinez and Muniain. Pastore will be out of my price range and Ganso hasn't long joined City :/ I might try to change how I lay things about for the next season.

The next update will probably come on Thursday as I have a long day at work tomorrow and I haven't got the time tonight.

John Obi Mikel Joins PSG

Today, it has been announced that Nigerian midfielder, John Obi Mikel, will leave Chelsea to join Paris St. Germain for a fee of £17m. Mikel made over 100 appearances during his time at Chelsea and will join the French, Ligue 1 runners-up, PSG after publicly stating his frustration over his lack of first team football. In all competitions last season, Mikel made 18 appearances with only 10 starts for the English Treble winners, under new manager, Pavel Glazkov. The midfielder played second fiddle to Sven Bender most the season who joined the club for £13m last summer.

This is the first major transfer activity the club has been involved in this season. On the same day, Lucas Piazon joined Vitesse on loan for the season and Oriol Romeu joined up with Watford on loan for the season. Chelsea hold the right to recall either players at any time.

In Other News..

Ukraine won the 2012 European Championships on home soil in a surprise final against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Ukraine defeated Germany in the semi final whilst Bosnia beat Holland, the surprise being how they got that far in the first place. England failed to get past the group stage. They beat Spain 2-0 in their first group game but then lost to Turkey and Portugal as they finish bottom of their group. Dickheads.
