March 2012 Part 2
Pavel Glazkov: "Bring it on!"
Chelsea's Russian manager, Pavel Glazkov, held a press conference at Stamford Bridge following their heroic win in Europe before a Premier League clash against Arsenal. "We face Arsenal on Saturday and our players are very tired from mid-week. But let that not misguide you. We are very much looking forward to settling some scores against Arsenal as we should have won last time, but I won't talk about that again." When asked about the clash against Arsenal and the clubs title challenge Glazkov said, "Bring it on! We are in great form and the players are on a high. Every player is playing well at the moment I really don't know who to play."

Chelsea 3-0 Arsenal
(Didier Drogba x3)
Didier Drogba
Arsenal suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Chelsea and the combination of Juan Mata and Didier Drogba. Drogba connected with Juan Mata's cross to put the Blues 1-0 up after 15 minutes. After 23 minutes Torres was pulled down by Vermalen. Frank Lampard's spot kick was saved by Szczesny and Torres came close with the follow up. Arsenal were useless going forward and Chelsea held on to their lead at half time. 8 minutes after the break Mata's pass found Drogba who got his second of the game. Finally, Drogba got his hat-trick doing what Frank Lampard failed to do previously. Juan Mata was tripped by Andre Santos in the box and Drogba converted the spot kick. That was his 20th league goal in 22 games, equalling Rooney's 20 to make him top of the goal scoring charts the day before his 34th birthday.
FA Cup Quarter Final
Craven Cottage
Fulham 0-4 Chelsea
(Didier Drogba, Romelu Lukaku x2, Mbaye Niang)
Romelu Lukaku
John Arne Risse, Danny Murphy
Chelsea's demolition against 9-man Fulham, was soured by an injury that could see the end of Didier Drogba's season. The Ivorian striker got his team 1 up after 7 minutes against an in-form Fulham, who now sit 5th in the table. John Arne Risse was controversially sent off for a two-footed tackle on Raul Meireles, who was accused of diving. The first half ended at 1-0, but 3 minutes later Didier Drogba seemed in a lot of pain and was stretchered off, to a round of applause from every person in the stadium. It was later confirmed Didier had suffered a torn hamstring. Romelu Lukaku came on for Drogba and settled in straight away, with two goals before Danny Murphy was shown a straight red card for a two-footed tackle on Lucas Digne and tempers flared as Chelsea players were obviously upset with the horrific challenges in the game. It was Chelsea who had the last laugh as 17 year old, Mbaye Niang, scored his 5th goal in the FA Cup this season to complete the rout and send Chelsea into the FA Cup semi final at Wembley.
FA Cup Semi Final Draw
Newcastle knocked out Man Utd in the quarter finals and will be favourites to get into the final. Chelsea will play either Leicester City or Bolton Wanderers to get to the final. A possible all-Championship final is still on the cards.
Breaking Injury News
Ashley Cole has broken his foot in training yesterday. He will join Didier Drogba on the casualty list and will miss the remainder of the season and possibly Euro 2012. Youngsters; Ryan Bertrand and Lucas Digne, will have to step up into the left back role for the remainder of the season. On a better note, Sven Bender has resumed normal training following his groin strain, he remains doubtful for the clash against Stoke City.
Barclays Premier League
Brittania Stadium
Stoke City 1-0 Chelsea
Matthew Etherington
Chelsea's winning run in the Premier League came to an abrupt end at the Brittania Stadium. Peter Crouch's first half header was all that was need to see off Chelsea, as well as a string of good saves from Asmir Begovic as Pavel Glazkov was left wandering how his side didn't score. The defeat was worsened by the news of Sime Vrsaljko limping off, it was later stated that he will miss 5 weeks with a strained knee ligament. Sime will be the third first-team casualty of the week as Chelsea's squad gets smaller. Branislav Ivanovic is still not fit to play after his broken wrist. The loss ends Chelsea's 10-game winning streak in the League.
Champions League Quarter/Semi Final Draw
Perhaps, the greatest teams in the planet will all feature in the Champions League Quarter finals. Chelsea take on a mammoth take of defeated Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid. One of which will play the winner of the Manchester derby. Bayern Munich and Arsenal will play it out to decide who will play either Inter Milan or favourites, Barcelona. What a draw!
Barclays Premier League
Stamford Bridge
Chelsea 3-1 Aston Villa
(Frank Lampard x2, Fernando Torres)
Frank Lampard
Pavel Glazkov rallied his depleted squad to get back to winning ways in a repeat of the Carling Cup final. 7 minutes in Stephen Warnock handled the ball and Lampard converted the penalty. Moments later Lampard played in Torres to double Chelsea's lead. In the second half Lucas Digne's cross was smashed in by Lampard for his 8th league goal of the season. There was more frustration for Chelsea as Romelu Lukaku limped off after pulling his hamstring and will see him out for 3 weeks. He is the fourth major loss of the month for Chelsea and could be a severe dent in their title aspirations.
European Champions League Quarter Final
Stamford Bridge
Chelsea 2-0 Real Madrid
(Juan Mata x2)
Juan Mata
Pepe
What a win for Chelsea. A squad plagued by injury overcame Real Madrid's strongest team and Glazkov will be delighted with his victory over Chelsea's former manager, Jose Mourinho. Juan Mata will grab the headlines with two first half goals and, to be honest, he should have had a hat trick. David Luiz's headed pass was prodded in by Juan Mata only 14 minutes in. After 26 minutes Daniel Sturridge's lay off was enough for Mata to grab his second. Cristiano Ronaldo thought he scored moments before half time but it was ruled out for offside. Pepe was shown a straight red for a late challenge on Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge was taken off injured from the challenge and will be out for 3 weeks with a sprained ankle. A great win for Chelsea and Champions League glory looks a real possibility this season.
In Other News
Bolton Wanderers beat Leicester 5-0 to play Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final. Leeds beat Birmingham to play Newcastle in the other semi-final. The question on everyone's lips right now seems to be; "Will Chelsea win a quadruple this season?!"
Barclays Premier League
Carrow Road
Norwich 3-6 Chelsea
(Frank Lampard x4, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Ibrahim Affelay)
Frank Lampard
It rained goals at Carrow Road in an amazing game in the Barclays Premier League. 4 goals from Frank Lampard was the key to Chelsea's success to go three points ahead at the top of the table due to Man United losing to Man City. Mbaye Niang was hauled down in the area after 14mins and Lampard converted the penalty. Ezequiel Lavezzi made it two shortly before half time. Lampard put Chelsea 3-0 up after 49 minutes. Norwich pulled one back through Steve Morison, but Lampard scored again to seal his hat trick.
In the last 10 minutes of the game it was goals-galore in a mad ten minutes. Grant Holt made it 4-2, but Lampard's fourth put Chelsea 3 goals ahead again. Steve Morison scored his second to make it 5-3, but it still wasn't over as Ibrahim Affelay scored his first league goal for Chelsea in injury time.
Chelsea Player of the Month
There is no player of the month. I feel the whole team were brilliant and amazing results against; Liverpool, Arsenal and Norwich in the league followed by two heroic efforts against AC Milan and Real Madrid in the Champions League. It would be unfair to single out someone as the whole team has been brilliant.
Barclays Premier League Table
Chelsea still sit 3 points ahead of United with a superior goal difference. Fulham have stormed up the table and Wolves have pulled away from the bottom three, as Wigan drop into it. QPR won all their games in March and are now only 6 points off safety. QPR manager, Mike Phelan, won manager of the month for his efforts.
