Jak Ovari goes to Holland for the first time:

Why Go Ahead Eagles?

First of all: a cool club name :)

Besides that, this club has been around for 112 years and is 4 times Dutch Football Champion: 1917, 1922, 1930, 1933.

Those titles are won in times when football competition in Holland was amateur.
Back in those times, the Football Federation rejected any form of payment for the players and they were even suspended if they were caught receiving salaryor any kind of payment for playing football.

After the introduction of Eredivisie in 1956, the club didn't enjoy any particular success besides playing in finals of the Dutch Cup in 1964-1965.

The club has a total of 29 seasons in Eredivisie, way less than high-flyers such as Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV who have played in this league for 58 years now, but still more than clubs like Heeneveen (20 seasons), Volendam, RKC, Fortuna, De Graafschap, Zwolleetc.

The club is from Deventer, a city in Salland region of the Dutch province of Overijssel.

It's citizens besides the love for Go Ahead Eagles, are also very proud for the famous Bussink Deventer Koek (Deventer honey cake) - which I will probably be eating a lot during my stay at Deventer.

First day at work, meeting everyone at the club. I have been given a small budget 112k euros to spend and a payroll at 52k.

View attachment 255421

Seems like the best player in the club is Deniz Turuc, a 21 years old midfielder who has been at the club for three years now.

View attachment 255420

There are only two strikers in this team, Marnix Kolder, a 33 years old who has been club's best goalscorer in pas three seasons and Glynor Plet, on loan from Zulte Waregem. The later has the highest salary at the club at 6k, which is three times more compared to second best players in the club.

The first thought is that I might need to hit the market soon as I can to improve the attacking department.

The guy in the right is the club's president, Edwin Lugt. He is pretty clear in finances: no more spending. Besides that, he is a very cool president, I noticed he uses twitter to interact with fans and inspire them to buy season tickets.

When we come to tickets, well, Go Ahead Eagles plays in the De Adelaarshorst, a stadium with 10 000 capacity and Adequate training facilities / Adequate youth facilities.

The board expect us to be competitive this season, with not any specific requirement or game philosophy.

Estimated club value is 4.8 million euros.

Media predicts us to finish 14th.

I am yet to experience a game before the fans, but based on the photos they look to be very proud and enthusiastic about their club.

...especially in the matches against rivals such as Zwolle and Twente.

Based on current setup and available money, we agree to try hard to stay in Eredivisie this season.

I'm hooked mate, I like how you're writing this :) the Eredivisie is a tough division this season, so good luck :) Have a look at Uth from Heerenveen as a striker, he did ok for me in my story but he might do better for you!

Haven't spend much time and there is staff joining Go Ahead Eagles, two scouts are at the club facilities to sign their contracts:

Sylvian Wiltord

View attachment 255405

and, Patrick Anderson

View attachment 255404

The first will help me find players in central Europe while Anderson goes on a trip to Scandinavia.

I will be looking for free players who are out of contract.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

There isn't any money available for wages, therefore I have to make a harsh decision and terminate the loan of Glynor Plet

View attachment 255400

Even though one of the best players in this club, his high wages are a burden to the payroll, therefore I will be looking to sign at least two players with around 3k/week salary.

Thanks a lot :)

Mark Uth would be one of my favorite strikers, but unfortunately out of my reach, seems like Heerenveen wants around 1 million for him. With this budget, I can't do much. There is some interest in some of my players but nothing concrete yet.

TWO OUT and TWO IN at GA Eagles

Departures:

View attachment 255363 View attachment 255362

Marnix Kolder and Jeffrey Rijsdijk.

Kolder has scored 39 goals in three seasons for GA Eagles, but already at 33, he was not in my plans for the future. For 19k euros he moves to Mechelen in Belgium, while Rijsdijk moves to Dodrecht in free transfers.

Fans were concerned especially with Kolder's departure as he was the most prolific striker at the club. But better days will come, with patience ;)

These transfers will save another 5k/week in wages.

Arrivals:

View attachment 255360 View attachment 255359

Ismail H'Maidat and Lorenzo Arends

Certainly two players for the future.

H'Maidat (free transfer) - 18 yo, previously at Anderlecht, Crystal Palace, Genk and Twente. A young talented left winger has signed a contract 400 euros / week.

Arends (free transfer) - 16 yo, previously at Vitesse. The young striker will play for our U18 teams. His contract is 110 euros / week.

We have our striker!

Lassad joins Go Ahead Eagles

View attachment 255333

Our search for the striker around whom we will build our attack led us to several names among which the favorites came to be Ivan Klasniç, Younis Mahmoud and Lassad Nouioui.

After several contract negotiations and considering the age, we went for Lassad, which is a major coup for our club.
Lassad is an 28 years old striker, and comes with bags of experience in club such as Deportivo La Curuna, Celtic and Arouca.
He netted an impressive 40 goals for La Curuna in Spain and is the only current GA Eagles who can be proud to have played in Champions League.

(Lassad at Celtic)

Lassad has put his signature in three years contract with an salary of 4.2k euros / week, which makes him the highest paid player in our club.

With our #9 at the club, we'll be looking to add at least two more supporting attackers before the transfer deadline.

While i'm with the staff and players at training centers, consulting with my coaches to bring the physical preparations at best, my scout, Wiltord, is having fun and posting photos in his facebook profile:

What the heck??

View attachment 255304

I'm running out of time here... well at least I have to give my maximal support to my only supporting attacker, Alex Schalk.

View attachment 255303

Well, he is 22 years old and has some pace. He joined the club a week before I did, and he comes from Jong PSV where he scored 6 goals in 16 matches. Prior to that, he was at NAC Breda, where he played for three seasons netting 10 goals.

Not bad at all, but I need more options in attack, just in case someone gets injured.

look into the first division.
you could try and get sjoerd ars from nec
are cas peters from emmen foar goals
are brandley kuwas for assist.

Preparation matches:

Dender - Go Ahead Eagles 0:2

Torhout - Go Ahead Eagles 0:3

Go Ahead Eagles - Hamburg 0:3

Go Ahead Eagles - Wolfsburg 0:1

Go Ahead Eagles - Sunderland 0:1

IJsselmeervogels - Go Ahead Eagles 0:1

I have been trying several formations and seems like 4-1-4-1 and 4-4-2 are more efficient with the current players. I usually use Lassad as CF and Schalk just behind him in supporting role, looks good with the "defensive forward" too. Actually I like him better as defensive forward, as he turns to help the team more with defensive duties. I am going to use counter-attacking most of the matches.

I like how Lesley de Sa (on loan from Ajax) moves in right wing, he's quite quick, which gives me an advantage in counter-attacks. In the left wing there is support from Jules Reimerink, who doesn't have the same speed but has good dribbling abilities.

The one that impressed me the most during these matches is Giliano Wijnaldum

View attachment 255264

The 22 yo left back, is the younger brother of Georginio Wijnaldum and has joined The Eagles from Groningen. He's a good team player, high work rate and provides a lot of help to attack with his pace.

TRANSFERS UPDATE

In our quest for new attackers, I chose Junior Lima dos Santos

View attachment 255259

18 year old, 187cm

He joins as free-transfer from FC Eindhoven. Previously he has been at PSV Eindhoven. He is yet to make the debut in Eredivise but looks very promising. I will use him as a backup for Lassad.
He has signed a contract worth 250 euro / week.

Franck Minvielle

View attachment 255258

22 years old right-back joins after being released by Montpelliere HSC.

Wiltord thinks he can be helpful in right back as a cover for Sven Nieuwpoort.

With his good tackling abilities and pace he has convinced me and we have negotiated a 3 year contract worth 600 euros / week.

Now finally heading for the first match of the season at Euroborg stadium in Groningen

Thanks a lot. I have already adjusted budget and lost that little money available for transfers to increase payroll. I can't buy any players now and I am avoiding monthly installments. Brandley Kuwas looks very good! Thanks. I am going to keep an eye on him perhaps during january.

Right now i'm going with very low wages and my offers are pretty much being turned down. Most of them in first bid, which are way below what the players require (H)

Looks fantastic! Keep up the good work and I hope you will post new updates.

Good luck with GO Ahead Eagles!

Devastating defeat. We lost in final score, in ball possession, shots on target... actually there was just one shot on target.
The 4-1-4-1, looked very uninspiring and boring.

I was expecting some harsh critics in our way back home, but I was surprised the next day in stadium:

View attachment 255242 View attachment 255241

Fans are voluntarily cleaning the stadiums and preparing for our first home match.

This attitude really inspire us all, I love this community spirit!

I hope not to disappoint them!

======================================

Meanwhile, good news in transfer market:

AARON KUHL join on loan from Reading

View attachment 255240

Aaron is an 18yo central midfielder who can help this team a lot and will be a good cover for Turuc.

With an low wage at 325 euros/week, I think we did pretty well to sign him.

View attachment 255238

Seems like fans are going to love him too!

In matters of marketing, we have our own David Luiz now!

Check Dean Patricio from Pec Zwolle
LB, 20 years 1k/week

His estimated cost is 125k-275k and wage demands at 4.7k-10k/week. I think I cannot afford him right now. I am getting the reputation of being cheap in this league, agents hate me (H)
