Wondering if any of you guys have ever grown really attached to any of your players in this silly little game? I didn't think I could, or ever would, but it just popped up on my news inbox that the GREAT Alex Madlung, will be retiring at the end of my current season. He's been with me since virtually day one, and he's been a model of consistency, now I genuinely feel my reign as such a great team is coming to an end.

I once bought Gaitan for City in FM13 for ?2.3 Million. He was only 2 stars and was back up for my wingers, However he got his chance through injury and finished the season with a good record. 28 games, 26 goals, 18 assists. I was turning down bids of around ?20/?25 million because i didnt want to let him go.

He flopped the next season and thats when our love broke down!

I know that feeling. I brought up a whole Golden generation on my Dortmund save on FM13. Taking them from a youth side to world champions on several occasions. Was a sad day when half of them retired.

I remember this one player in my Arsenal save in FM 2011. Now, I had a whole generation of amazing players I helped develop (David, Jonathan Fontana, Jorge Pasini, etc) but none of them, NONE of them shall ever eclipse the absolute LEGEND that was Ousseynou Faye.
My scouts had picked him up while he was playing for PSV. He was 22 years old, of Senegalese nationality (but not a single international cap) and underperforming there, but my scouts rated his potential very highly. So I thought, "He's only 6.5 mil, why not?" And when he arrived that summer, the fans were a little wary, but willing to give him time.
First game of the season against...someone, I can't even remember...my 40 million pound Brazilian forward, Toninho, was failing to make an impact. At half time, he had a 6.0 rating, so I turned to Faye, and said, "Your turn, son."
He scored a hat trick on his debut. And we never looked back.
He got somewhere around 30 goals that first season, and the European Golden Boot. He got called up to France soon after that and he ended up retiring with a World Cup with them, and about 120+ goals in about 110 games. He ended up breaking Henry's records with us. He somehow scored 6 goals in one game. And when he announced his retirement, I was so so so sad. I couldn't play for a week. :/
So yeah, I definitely get overly attached to my regens. xD

i got really attached to adnan januzaj i want him to spend the rest of his career at man utd cementing his place alongside giggs scholes as 1 club players

I had a Chelsea regen striker called Jacinto Teixeira on FM13. Although he was from Portugal, he only ever played for one club, and was so good that he was already in the team as a retrained AM at 18. After club captain Falcao got old, Teixeira took his place as striker and captain. He always scored at least 30 league goals a season, and was the best player I've ever had through my youth system. Won the World Player of the Year and other awards every time, and scored over 150 goals for Portugal. When he retired as a footballer it was a sad day, although he became my Assistant for another 20 years, despite his stats not being as good as some other staff at the club.

I had many very good players come through the youth system, and about 70 more brought in from overseas to either be sold for huge amounts of money or become legends, but I had a real affinity with Teixeira, as he was part of the first intake I had.

This happens to me so often. On FM13 with Celtic, I signed a regen called Zvonomir Ceraj from Man City for ?2.5 million, at the age of 20. My scouts rated him very highly but he had spent the majority of his time in the City reserves. Needless to say he arrived at Celtic and he slipped into the AMC position playing as a trequartista.

This guy went onto score over 1000 goals for the club, he won countless Player of the Years and Golden Boots, he won League titles and European Champions Leagues. He was the greatest player I have ever managed and I don't think I'll ever find a player better than him. He managed to score 7 goals in one game...and it was an Old Firm. I've lost count of how many times I gave that guy a standing ovation. God...I miss him.

He was so good that when he retired I could barely carry on the same. I snapped him up straight away to be my assistant manger and we went onto lead Celtic to another few trophies. But it wasn't the same without Ceraj on the pitch. He averaged above 8.00 ratings in countless numbers of seasons, he broke so many club and international records, leading Croatia to 2 world cup finals (losing both) and yeah, he was awesome.

I normally sell players before they get to 30+ so I never grow attached to players. I do resign them as coaches when they retire though.

I usually do that aswell. Although one played I couldn't do it to was Van Nistelrooy on FM2011. Playing as Ajax and I was looking for a backup striker, one that could also tutor the younger players aswell. Van Nistelrooy was cheap (about 200k), rather hefty wages but even for an older player he had good stats and I believed he'd be a good tutor so I signed him.

And boy did he repay me, granted as a backup striker he didn't play as much as others, but he could turn a game on it's head. Seemed to just score for fun, when it came around that, unless we suffered a major injury crisis, he'd likely not play for us again, I considered transferring him/terminating his contract, but instead I let him retire at the club. Then signed him as a coach.

I often become quite attached to my players.

On my current save with Maribor I became really attached to Marcos Tavares. He was the star player at the club when I arrived and he quickly became a legend at the club by becoming the all time leader in appearances and goals. He also holds the record for most assists in a season when he picked up 30 in his final season. I had planned to use him as a back up but he kept putting in amazing performances scoring 17 goals to go along with all his assists. He was awesome at taking corners and setting up Tomas Necid, who smashed Tavares record for goals in a season by netting 35. As soon as Tavares retired, I fired one of my coaches and hired him because he belongs at Maribor, his numbers were good as well.

I'm starting to grow pretty attached to some of my regens. I have a pair of Slovenian regens that I have been trying to hold on to, Jernej Kompan and Slavisa Voros. Kompan is 21 and has already won the Slovenian Player of the Year aware 3 times, has scored around 70 goals for the club and is the captain. He was a AM but after a dull season where he won no awards, I retrained him as a Striker to replace Marcos Tavares and he has been rejuvenated, become the most reputable Slovenian player. I knew he was going to be a star the moment I signed him unlike Voros who came out of nowhere in my youth system. He wasn't anything special when he arrived, a left wingback with good technical numbers but poor defending stats. But with a little training he grew rapidly and is now a stalwart for both club and country. I've put in a lot of effort to fend off much bigger clubs in order to keep these two, I basically give them new contracts every year. Hopefully I will build my future success around them.

Claudio Pizarro and Michael Ballack in CM 01/02, I played like 15 seasons with FC Bayern and stopped after 2-3 without them.

Had Pedro Mantorras (real player, now scout Africa for Benfica) to play more than 1300 games and score more than 1000 goals for Leeds in my 18th season save.

What a joy to see him helping me won 14 in 18 Champions Leagues.

Played from 19 to 37 and 1st team, even the 3 last seasons, where i had better players than him, but could not let him go.

Had to sack my second longest serving coach who was 4* defensive to keep Madlung on staff who is 2.5* defensive. Worth It.

Balanta for me on my current save with Everton, he's set to retire at the end of my current season at the age of 38, i asked him to reconsider but he rejected it, also discussed with him about becoming my assistant but he doesn't want anything to do with Football once he's retired.. will be very sad to see him retire, he was my first signing for Everton for about 4 million (bargain & he becomes best center back on game if played regualry)

Another one is Zaha.. Man Utd transfer listed him a few seasons in, i signed him, he was absolutely class for me on the left side of midfield, i sold him when he turned 32 and lost his pace, i didn't want to but knew i had to..

This is a good thread (Y)

I started a save with Almería and I got really attached to Helder Barbosa and Oscar Diaz as they both scored 20 goals in the league in 2013-14 and 2014-15 and almost single-handedly got me into the Champions League and Champions League Final.

Darwin Quintero on FM11. Words don't describe my love for that man.

Darwin Quintero!! Quality in a reading save in FM13. Don't think he's in FM14 though.

Greatest player I ever had was Ebbs Sand in CM01/02 scored 50 goals in one season
