When in doubt, just remember that John Carew turns like the QE2. Then you should remember the pronounciation. Kuyt is pronounced Cuit, or Kite.

The way I pronounce Kuyt is the same as coit in coital.

Actually, just checked with a Dutch-speaking friend of mine: it's Kuyt, as you'd expect. As in, Dee - rk K - owt.
Born Dutch? The pronounciation might differ in regions, but the 'uy' is pronounced like 'au'. Johan Cruyff is Crauff and Kuyt is Kayt. Can't explain it very well, so:

At around 20 seconds.

Born Dutch. The video just confirmed what I said, it's pronounced Kowt, or Kaut as you put it.

Kuyt - like Kir (like in 'bird') + oot
Solskjaer - Sool + sher
Özil - Ir + zil
Macheda = Makeda

John Akinde ? Is it pronounced Akindee or Akinday ?

Have a couple of regens I've been calling god knows what for the past few weeks:

Frederic Brendel - German wing back.. Bren-dell, Bren-dull, or Bren-dl?
Marc Coumans - Dutch wing back.. Coo-man, Coo-mon, Coo-mohn (as in the French 'non')..? Is the 's' silent or is it pronounced?

Hello, this is the thread where you say all the names you don't know how to pronounce. For me it would be Edin Dzeko-is it Zay-ko or Zee-ko. I don't know.

If anyone else has anything like this someone may correct you.

neither i have always heard it pronounced SHEH-KO

The first one. Most German words (and names) are pronounced how they appear - including 'e's at the end of words. Obviously there are a few differences (eg. umlauts), but for the most part it is the same.

So you would say his name as 'Bren-dell'?
