CASH-STRAPPED TOFFEES STUMBLE THROUGH JANUARY
View attachment 81863

A turbulent January has seen Everton sell Xavi Palanca to Feyenoord for £14m and Darren Read to Reading for £1m whilst bringing in loanees Loic Noel and Dan Dawson as well as youngsters James Griffiths from Cardiff and Kostas Retsos from Panathinaikos

Off-field budgetary concerns seemingly affected on pitch matters as the Toffees slumped to defeats against Middlesbrough and Watford and a 2-2 draw with Leiecster before a legendary 4-4 draw at home to Sunderland which saw 8 different goalscorers

Everton stumbled through the FA Cup, needing a replay to overcome Forest however the Blues turned it around at the end of the month, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 in the league and QPR 2-0 in the FA Cup

WOLVES GET A SWEET TOOTH
View attachment 81294

Relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers have today said goodbye to two players who've joined Champions League Everton on cut price deals

Jack Askew and Robert Wright had contrasting seasons in Wolvess' ill fated campaign, with left back Askew making 31 Premier League appearances whilst Wright scored 14 goals in 16 league games in the National League for Mansfield

Askew, a Wolverhampton born left back, came through the club's academy and the 20 year old went on to make 50 league appearances for Wolves, interspersed by loan spells at Tranmere and MK Dons, with whom he was also relegated

This experience obviously impressed the Everton management, who picked up the England Under 21 international for a snip at £600,000

Wright, on the other hand, made only 2 league appearances for Wolves before being shoved out on loan last season

The 18 year old carries a lot of potential and his lack of international caps at any level meant that the Rowley Regis lad cost Everton a measly £450,000

DUO SWAP THAMES FOR MERSEY
View attachment 81024

Everton have today announced the signing of two players from London clubs as they seek to strengthen ahead of their fist Champions League campaign since 2005

The first and more recognisable signing was that of Ronnie Broughton from Chelsea on a free transfer

Broughton, 25, was touted to be England's next great central defensive hope but failed to capitalise on his early potential, making just 16 league appearances for The Blues

He made 100 league appearances over a variety of loan spells, appearing for Swansea, Brentford and Stoke

The second signing was that of Ondre Edwards from West Ham for £2.8m

Edwards, 17, was an integral part of the Hammers' youth sides and was touted to be a West Ham legend if he stayed

That was of course until, the Englishman, who also qualifies for Ireland, opted to join the Toffees

SOUTH AMERICAN NOBODY JOINS TOFFEES
By Jamie Carragher
View attachment 80906

Everton have had a poor window, selling players left right and centre for a total of £53m including John Jackson (£30m Brentford), Salvatore Vitolo (Atalanta £8m) and Jon Nicholas (Rangers £3.3m)

And now they've made up for it by signing some nobody from South America

The Toffees have signed Cristian from Internacional for £8m. The 22 year old is yet to play for his country and has never step foot outside Brazil

Cristian had made 193 league appearances in the Brazilian Serie A, 80 for Cruzeiro and 113 for Internacional, scoring 30 goals and grabbing 35 assists

Many Everton fans are excited about this signing, but I'm not. If he was any good he wouldn't still have been in Brazil aged 22

South Americans leave home early and if he was good enough he'd be in Spain already, this isn't good enough and Hawkins is walking on a tightrope from the get go for me

**** off Carragher, says right there he's got 1 cap you mealy-mouthed, crater-faced buffoon

I’ve been really loving this story mate, but I do find it funny that Jamie Carriger is still working as a pundit even at the age of 82! (As he would be by the current time of your save)
I can imagine there must be some magical invention whereby the super rich have access to some form of ‘Fountain of youth so they can go on giving their opinions forever! I really hope the Toffiees prove Carra wrong this season, and put in a strong campaign. (Although I do wish Newcastle hadn’t dropped off so much since you were there!)

DALTON LEG BREAK MARS EVERTON WIN
View attachment 80574
EVERTON 2 (5)
AS ROMA 1 (3)

After coming back from 2 goals down to win it in added time at the Stadio Olimpico, Everton were expected to ease past Roma at Goodison and that was the case tonight as Bob Dalton bagged two to send Everton into the group stage

Dalton, 24, continued lat season's form with an excellent brace before being stretchered off with a serious injury

It is thought Dalton will be out for a minimum of 7 months which will significantly change Hawkins' plans dramatically going into the campaign

With Warren Kyle and Mark Morgan also in the squad, will Hawkins dip into the transfer market for a replacement?

WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS
View attachment 80550

I wish I'd heeded the words American rockers Green Day's classic at the beginning of August as, Community Shield victory over Man City and Champions League progression aside, there's not been much to smile about at the beginning of our first season in years

The Man City win should have forewarned us as we laboured to a penalty win despite the Citizens being reduced to ten after 8 minutes

Despite this slice of luck, our players appeared to begin the season in a daze, losing both league games in August, succumbing 2-0 to Norwich before an embarrassing 3-1 loss away to Brighton and already the cracks were beginning to show

A run of Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham is never the kindest however to pick up just 1 point from those three were indicative of the way our season has gone, losing to United and Spurs and muddling our way to a 1-1 draw at St James'

These three games were the most concerning for me. This Everton side under Hawkins may lose to "smaller" sides but always retained the art of the upset, Hawkins knew what do in these big games, the 4-2 win to secure 4th place against Spurs last season and the back-to-back festive wins over United and City, 2-0 and 4-0 respectively, showcased a manager at the top of his game

Fortunately, we left this slump to pick up our first win of the campaign with a 2-0 win at the Hawthorns on Saturday. Up the Blues!
