Ipswich Town Story

Primary Goals

Start to build a young attacking squad and to challenge promotion within 2 years.
Transfer policy will be buy young and to sell players when reaching their peak.
Allsigned or loaned players will have been found by the club's scouting network.

Formations

View attachment 457021

4,3,3 will be the standard formation, with 4,2,3,1 and 4,4,2 (diamond) as variations. These will be used when trying to either catch a bigger team of guard, or when playing a lesser side to try and avoid complacency.

View attachment 457020View attachment 457022

Key Players

View attachment 457009View attachment 457012

Cresswell is our standout player, He will most likely be looking to move on to bigger things soon, so may be hard to keep hold of him If fail to have early success.

View attachment 457010

Hewitt is an exciting prospect to bookend the defense along with Cresswell, Hopefully this will be a partnership that stands the test of time.

View attachment 457011

Hyam will be a key figure in the middle of the park, Has great work rate hopefully this will become infectious. He has also been given the captain's armband.

View attachment 457013

Lawrence won't be getting a huge amount of start's this season, but I will be trying to get him as much playing time as possible. Again could be another great partnership for years to come.

Transfers

In

View attachment 457014
With a very small budget I optioned to primarily sign young free agents and made a small splash on Holt who should add some young quality to the midfield.

Out

View attachment 457015

Edwards surplus to requirements especially in his position in which we have a lot of youth. Taylor's loan allows the club to stop borrowing 200K from the chairman each month. All the other loans are to give youth some playing time.

Standout Transfers

View attachment 457017

Hunte was quite a coup with lots of top flight suitors, All of which were offering him a youth contract. We managed to pull the deal off by offering him a Pro contract and quite a bit of money. He will be eased into the side slowly mainly as a sub.

View attachment 457018

Landu is not my ideal forward as I prefer poachers for my primary formation but he should offer good options up front.

View attachment 457019

Holt was the big cash splash, he adds a more attacking option in the middle.

Friendly's

View attachment 457023

A short preseason, but with so much youth having U21 and U18 fixtures to gain fitness I am happy with the condition we enter the season in.

Season 13/14
August 2013

Championship
Reading 0 - 1 Ipswich

View attachment 457024
Great start to the season with on loan midfielder Tunnicliffe putting away a late winner.

League Cup

Cheltenham 1 - 3 Ipswich

View attachment 457025
Lots of young goalscorers even if against lowly opposition this still bodes well.

Championship
Ipswich 4 - 2 Millwall

View attachment 457026
Another great win with 3 of the youngsters getting goals.

Championship
Q.P.R. 1 - 1 Ipswich

View attachment 457027
A good point against top opposition. Landu already making a big impact.

Championship
Ipswich 2 - 0 Leeds

View attachment 457028

League Cup
Huddersfield 3 - 4 Ipswich

View attachment 457029
A back and fourth game decided in extra time. Rotated the starting line up so the extra 30 minutes shouldn't be too detrimental.

Championship
Birmingham 0 - 3 Ipswich

View attachment 457030
A great start to the year undefeated.

September 2013

Championship
Ipswich 1 - 1 Middlesbrough

View attachment 457031
A sluggish performance after a long break.

Championship
Ipswich 2 - 1 Yeovil

View attachment 457032
A fast end to end start slowed down, Focus will move to keeping possession as regularly losing that battle.

League Cup
Ipswich 2 - 1 Arsenal

View attachment 457033
Fantastic win albeit against a far from full strength Arsenal.

Championship
Ipswich 1 - 0 Brighton

View attachment 457034
Another month passes and still unbeaten, if not in as convincing fashion.

October 2013

Championship
Debry 3 - 3 Ipswich

Championship
Ipswich 3 - 3 Burnley

View attachment 457038
Fantastic comeback win and the first 3 points in October

Championship
Bolton 0 - 3 Ipswich

View attachment 457039
A great first half win, Possession battle starting to even out.

League Cup
Ipswich 1 - 2 Brighton

View attachment 457040
A disappointing late goal allowed Brighton to get the win in extra time.
Lost control of possession and gave up far too many fouls.

View attachment 457045
Free agent addition of Uvini adds a young Premiership potential CB, Will slowly add him into the rotation of our 3 current center backs, could perhaps allow one of the current starters to leave in January for the right offer.

November 2013

Championship
Ipswich 2 - 1 Barnsley

View attachment 456984
Having played a strong side in the League Cup, Hunte got a rare start and played great getting an early goal.

Championship
Blackpool 1 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 456983

Championship
Ipswich 1 - 1 Leicester

View attachment 456982

Championship
Charlton 3 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 456918
The score flatters the performance had just over 30% possession for most of the game.
Only bright side were the performances by Hunte and Landu

Championship League Table

View attachment 456917

very much In the promotion race, even if were to hit a stretch of bad performances,
it would be hard to drop out of the playoff positions.

Sorry for the rather large first post. will aim to keep upcoming post to 2/3 month updates, with a couple posts a week.

Let me know if you would like to see anything in-particular added into the story.

Thanks for reading.

Good to see a nice long post with detail, good effort!!! I'll keep an eye out!

Nice post. i had a good save with town last year, usually one with them of Colchester being my local teams, keep it up!!

Town have much of a budget ?? thought Veseli would be a keeper??

lja14 Only a Budget of 100k to start off. Veseli only out on loan, Have a good rotation at CB so wasn't much chance of him getting any playing time this year.

December 2013

Championship
Ipswich 1 - 3 Blackburn

View attachment 456461
Were in control up until the equaliser, Then failed to have a shot therefore after.

Championship
Ipswich 1 - 0 Huddersfield

View attachment 456460
The attendance was so high as was a fan match,
wasn't the most exciting of games but a good win coming off a heavy midweek loss.

Championship
Nottingham Forest 4 - 1 Ipswich

View attachment 456459
After a great start with Hunte scoring yet again when given a rare start, we just fell apart.
Blackstock had a field day.

Championship
Ipswich 2 - 1 Watford

View attachment 456458
Watford put on some pressure in the last 20 minutes,
but managed to get the much needed 3 points to stay in the title race.

Championship
Doncaster 1 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 456456
A fantastic come back, Landu coming off the bench to grab a last second game winner.

Championship
Bournemouth 1 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 456455
Rewarded Landu's game winner with a start and him came good again. Hyam put in a man of the match performance to go along with the winning goal.

Top four all within a game after the first half of the season in the books.

Boardroom Update

View attachment 456457

At first when saw this news was thinking the worst and may have to move on players in January.

View attachment 456454
Until I received this news. So I assume the cash injection has gone straight into the Transfer budget. I was also offered a new contract which takes me up to 2015 at 6k a week (which I reduced from 7k) and a promotion bonus of 100k.

January Transfer Policy

I will still be focusing on bringing in young players. Primarily looking for a Poacher up front and a right sided attacking midfielder. I will also try and pickup any young potential stars that I think are set below their value.

With players going out, I may offer some of the older guard if I can get a good price and I have a youngster that can take advantage of the starts. Jay Tabb and Christophe Berra would be candidates so far but this again depends on who is brought in.

Championship
Ipswich 3 - 1 Charlton

View attachment 456256
A good start to a busy month. Tunnicliffe injury will keep him out for a month,
in which time he returns to Man Utd and they don't wish to let him return.

View attachment 456255
So went out and got another body for the middle, from the other side in Manchester.
He only put us back 22k, so great value and will most likely be starting very regularly.

FA Cup
Ipswich 1 - 1 Leeds

View attachment 456254
Lucky to get a replay, Possession still an issue against some sides.

Championship
Ipswich 2 - 1 Queens Park Rangers

View attachment 456253
McGoldrick has hit some goalscoring form in perfect time for a huge home win,
against one of our leading challengers.

FA Cup

Leeds 1 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 456252
Leeds dominated even more in the replay and again had 60% possession.
Landu came up with a spell of pressure to sends us to Stanford Bridge for the 4th round.

Championship
Millwall 1 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 456251
Another comeback win with new boy Ibrahim grabbing the winner.

Championship
Ipswich 1 - 2 Reading

View attachment 456250
Rotated the side quite a bit for this game with a dense schedule. They played great in the first half,
only to get pushed around in the 2nd half.

FA Cup
Chelsea 3 - 0 Ipswich

View attachment 456249
We were great for 20 minutes with 6 shots on target,
but just disappeared once Chelsea got on the score board.

Championship
Leeds 1 - 1 Ipswich

View attachment 456248
In our 3rd meeting in January with Leeds we managed to keep the ball a bit more.
Leeds defiantly seem to have us figured out.

January Transfer Update

IN

View attachment 456246

After having a lot of Targets fall through or just plain out of budget. I managed to pull off a last minute deadline day deal for Colclough. ?2 Mil of the transfer is paid on a monthly basis, So hoping he can help get us into the top flight to pay that off easily. I certainly overpaid but had very limited option with all other targets club's wanting twice the price for similar caliber players.

View attachment 456247
I will work on his Acceleration quite a bit.
Hopefully Landu, Hunte and himself become a formidable attack.
I will be looking to give them all a big work load from now on in.

OUT

View attachment 456245

Berra was one of the older players that I had targeted for leaving at the right price. He had arrived this year on a free, so represents a good profit. Parrett became upset about lack of first team football so hopefully he finds some playing time in Barnsley.

February 2014

Championship
Ipswich 0 - 1 Bolton

View attachment 456243
Ran Bolton ragged even before they went down to 10 men,
Really don't know how we didn't get on the score board.

Championship
Barnsley 2 - 1 Ipswich

View attachment 456242
Landu has really staked his claim for the starting spot,
not only is he our top goal scorer but has also contributed 7 assist.
I somewhat have my doubts whether he will be able to contribute at the next level,
if we do make it this year.

Championship
Ipswich 3 - 1 Blackpool
View attachment 456241
The first game starting the 3 wiz kids together and they all came good.

Championship
Leicester 2 - 3 Ipswich
View attachment 456238
Landu coming up with a huge late winning goal, We were appalling the first half and really laid into the team specifically Cresswell, who turned the game on its head early in the 2nd half

Championship League Table

View attachment 456237

We have been really lucky that no one else has gone on a hot streak whilst we have had our struggles.
Landu's late winner puts us 6 points clear and we have a competitive goal difference as it stands.

Backroom Changes

Having not made any staffing additions before the season I decided to add to back room staff with the additional wage budget I had available from the recent cash injection.

View attachment 456093
Hargreaves add some international knowledge to pass on to our youth program,
Hoping his adaptability and determination lead him to be a good role model.

View attachment 456092
Pears offers great GK to our coaching staff and I like his mental attributes.

Having failed to get many new faces in January I decided to invest in a couple more scouts focusing on Europe.

View attachment 456091
Chiaschini will focus on the Mediterranean countries as he has a good knowledge throughout the area.

View attachment 456090
Piwowarski will be sent to Germany, Holland and France. Both scouts have been told only to report on players under the age of 23 to coincide with our transfer policy.

I have yet to let any staff go, and will most likely do a large reshuffle over the summer as many contracts expire at the end of the current season.

Formation Alteration

View attachment 456088
This formation has be added to the rotation to make better use of Hunte and Colclough moving them from the inside out to the side lines.

Championship
Ipswich 3 - 1 Birmingham

View attachment 456087
Gave the aforementioned new look formation a go against a struggling Birmingham side,
Not as convincing as the score board would suggest. Standout perfromance by Colclough with 2 assists and forced the penalty that McGoldrick missed.

Championship
Middlesbrough 0 - 1 Ipswich

View attachment 456086
A lucky win with a rather lackluster performance.

Championship
Yeovil 1 - 1 Ipswich

View attachment 456085
Really took it to a resilient Yeovil team that has taken some big scalps this year.

Youth Intake

Friendly

View attachment 456084
Don't know if this speaks more about the current quality or that of the new kids.

View attachment 456083
Overall very happy with the quality of players, may try and get a couple some playing time at the end of the season if we can tie up a promotion place soon.

Cream of the Crop

View attachment 456082
A very feisty looking fella, will have him tutored behind Cresswell. May have to look at making him more adapt at playing in midfield if he really wants to contribute in the next couple of years.

View attachment 456081
Grace scored a brace of goals in the friendly and could be the poacher I was looking for in January. Will need some serious work on his fitness and acceleration. But his pace and finishing our very promising.

View attachment 456041
Armstrong looks like a hardworking center back, Very happy with the young defensive corp with only position needing to address being GK.

View attachment 456080
Birkin again at a position of great deoth now so may need to look at having him focus at RB.
His main strengths lie with his physical attributes. So if make a positional change now,
hopefully that will be fruitful as he is very raw technically.

View attachment 456079
Daniels has tons of flair, don't have huge hope for him,
but could be some great home grown depth and another young attacking option.

Championship
Ipswich 3 - 0 Wigan

View attachment 456078
A very even match that again the score line doesn't represent.
Smith heading in two corners in-succession.

Championship
Brighton 2 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 456077
Disappointing to give away a 2 goal lead, but we have failed too put in any good performances of late.
Has been great to come away with points more often than not.

Championship
Ipswich 0 - 0 Derby

View attachment 456076
Either team could have taken this game so pretty fair result.

Championship
Ipswich 3 - 0 Nottingham Forest

View attachment 456075
Finally took a game over. Forest had all there chances once we were down to 10 men.

Championship League Table
View attachment 456074

Entering the final stretch in a fantastic position with only Burnely and Reading challenging from afar.

View attachment 455601
Rhodes came back to haunt his former club. Perhaps one off our worst performances to date.

Championship
Huddersfield 0 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 455600
A good win in a very dense part of our schedule.

Championship
Ipswich 2 - 1 Doncaster

View attachment 455599
Both goals came after we went down to 10 men with Tabb having to come off with an injury.

Championship
Watford 0 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 455598
To control of this game from the start and the young guns grabbed the goals.

Championship
Ipswich 3 - 1 Bournemouth

View attachment 455597
A good team performance with great significance.

View attachment 455596
We deified all odds and took the Championship with two games to spare.
I thought with the youth in the side it would take a couple of seasons to reach promotion.
Now the big test will be to keep these young guns in the Premiership.

Championship
Burnley 2 - 2 Ipswich

View attachment 455595
Burnley end up securing promotion with this draw, played a lot of youngsters in this game,
so very happy with their result and competitiveness.

Championship
Ipswich 0 - 3 Sheffield Wednesday

View attachment 455594View attachment 455593
Basically played the under 18's, put in a good performance which isn't shown in the stats.

Final Championship League Table
View attachment 455592View attachment 455590
The season did not end as closely contested at the top as it looked at Christmas,
and some big name teams falling even further down the pecking order.

Hot News

No more cold grass for the millionaires that are set to visit our hollowed ground.

Years Statistics

View attachment 455588View attachment 455587
Only the three young guns and the two primary CB getting an average rating over 7 is a bit disappointing. But at least the one place I have thrown money at has paid off.

You got a screenie of Connor Hunt at the end of the season mate?? He seemed to do well for you and 7 goals in 13 is very impressive - I singed him but didnt feel he was ready for first team football so loaned him out, but it will be interesting to see how he has progressed under you?? Thanks, and liking the story btw!

View attachment 455535

Here is Connor, Not overly impressive but clearly his pace and acceleration makes him productive in the Championship. In hindsight wish I had given him some more games early on,
but had him playing for U18's for the first half of the season.

Fair enough, fair play to you if you got up using those players though, and there clearly is some improvements in terms of crossing, corners, dribbling and finishing - I'm Huddersfield and just got past January - Abdi Ibrahim came on for me aswell, but on a free and got injured for 3 months, so looking forward to him coming in!

I think having the good start made it easy to add in the younger guys and not drop off too much, helped everyone other than Burnley fell apart in the second half of the season. Ibrahim was great for me but did have a couple of spells out with injury so might be a recurring theme.

Huddersfield have a great Team to challenge with early and perhaps better suited to promotion early on. I am really worried about how we will stand up to higher competition.

Season 14/15

Season Goals

View attachment 454611
With the 10Mil budget I will look to add more talent youth throughout, whilst looking most for a Keeper to take over from Loach at the end of season if not before. Our main aim is to avoid relegation and to hopefully challenge somewhat in one of the Cup's if given a reasonable draw.

Key Backroom Additions

View attachment 454608
Parnaby takes over as the Head of Youth Development hopefully this leads to even further improvement of the youngsters.

View attachment 454607
Bisciotti hopefully helps the young starters keep fit as a lot lack stamina.

Transfers

View attachment 454605
Parrett Loan deal had a clause to transfer for free at anytime which I was unaware off so lost out on that deal quite a bit, Anderson and McGoldrick both were good for me last season but they don't fit the philosophy and was able to get good money for them. Have no idea why City want Gerken but I was prepared to release him so was more than happy with the 100k.

View attachment 454606
Most of the budget I moved over into wages, grabbed a lot of versatile players with lots of potential.

View attachment 454604
Hurst has immense potential at 16 he will get some rotation in the first team but mainly play for the U18 this year.

View attachment 454603
Getting stacked with talent in the middle now. Really like Martinos first touch, passing and technique.

View attachment 454602
Henly I hope is our Keeper of the future, took him over Smithies whom I could acquire for the same fee but was asking for a larger contract. I went for the cheaper option with more longevity.
Will get to work on his handling immediately

View attachment 454601
Thrope adds another body at CB, He won't be a key figure but will help if hit a tough patch injury of schedule wise.

View attachment 454600
Hiwula adds yet another domestic player to our ranks, was taken in by his physical traits, I loaned him out for 3 months but may recall him if goals are hard to come by.

View attachment 454599
Knott adds a versatile sub/starter liked that he can play a couple of positions favored in my system. Has good overall attributes over than tackling and positioning.

Friendlies

View attachment 454590
A lot more fixtures this season. Not a great tour of France but the rest we looked good.

A lot of youth or bit part players out on loan and Tabb left with not long on his contract,

Along with the Irish lads I made a deadline day transfer and loan.

I brought back Wickham to Portland Road.
I am really happy with the potential upfront now,
just need to get them on scoring form.

Radosevic gives a little more talent in the middle of the park with a dense run of fixtures I though an extra body would help. I have an option to buy him but I am unlikely too with a look of young talent hopefully only a year away from being full contributors.

Back to back wins against Fulham. This was much easier game playing against 10 men for most of the game.

Ipswich 2 - 2 Southampton

3 goals in 4 minutes then the game calmed down. Landu grabbed the equaliser to take it to a replay.
This has become a winnable competition now, with the only Premiership side remaining being Man City

A very tight league this year. I think with this great run we should be safe.
Hopefully we can hold onto a top 10 spot.
