Sundeland have continued their spending spree with another big name signing in Hakan Calhanoglu. The fee for the transfer between Bayer Leverkusen and Sunderland is thought to be around £23 million. The transfer comes as a shock to most as Sunderland have just signed Memphis Depay for £33 million from Bayern Munich yesterday. Both signings surpass the clubs previous record fee which was for Darren Bent at £14 million. We spoke to Sunderland manager Jamie Carragher about the signings:

"Obviously these were two really hard deals to keep quiet but I think everyone at the football club handled it well. Memphis and Hakan are two world class footballers and we all know this time last year they wouldn't have been interested in the club. These signings show how far we have come and also show the direction we are going. The lads like the ideas and if I can utilise them properly which I'm sure I can, we may make it past the group stages of the Champions League. I can assure all Sunderland fans there will be no relegation scrap this year."

Carragher seems fairly confident in his new signings and it's not hard to see why. Both were voted in the Bundesliga team of the season last year.​
 
Game changing signings. Depay can give you the league by himself.:D

In my save Gerrard doesn't sign as an assistand manager in any team, not even in the English National Team. He's a manager but he's not doing so well, to put it nicely. (6)
 
Great signing in Depay, in my save he hammered in over 200 goals for Liverpool....
 
Calhanoglu is someone I've always wanted to manage, haven't had a chance yet though. Those two should be awesome!
 
Huge transfers there my friend !! Those two alone make your team one of the favorites for the tittle !!

If I'm right he was sacked by Swindon on this, then I stole him! I'm not looking at the league yet, we're a long way off!

Yeah this will be my first time managing him but I'm excited, his stats are insane.

Can't talk about the title this season! Maybe next but even then I still think we're a long way off
 
They are some really good signings mate. You'll easily create and score loads of goals this season!
 
I actually sold Depay to Sunderland in my United save around this time too but for around 18 million.

He was very good for me, not done much at Sunderland under the AI though!

I'm sure you will get him going fine

I'm sure I will, I haven't really improved the defence and that's a worry, it has more depth now though!
