April

View attachment 321140

April began we a match against our rivals Villarreal. They failed to threaten our goal throughout the match and we were by far the better team. Rodrigo opened the scoring a fabulous finish and Ould-Chikh got himself on the scoresheet once again as we won comfortably.

A midweek match against Athletic Bilbao did not go to plan as I felt we needed to win to extend our lead at the top of the table. Negredo opened the scoring for us early on but Athletic soon hit back through Aduriz after he was left unmarked in the box and nodded the ball into the back of the net.

We thrashed our fierce rivals Levante 5-0 in one of our most convincing performances of the season. Feghouli scored a hattrick while Parejo and Rodrigo also found the net.

I went into the Barcelona match with an extremely defensive lineup as I looked to avoid defeat at all costs. But one of my centrebacks decided to ignore the instructions I had given him and this allowed for Suarez to go through on goal and blast it past my keeper. Both Feghouli and Negredo had great chances to score an equaliser but they struck the crossbar. This defeat blew the title race wide open.

Our next match was against the team who inflicted our first defeat of the season, Granada. It was a must win game as we looked to stay in the title race. Suso came to the rescue and scored to give us the all-important three points.
Thanks Celta:

The last match of the month was against Rayo who took the lead early on and looked as though they would hold the lead until halftime but Feghouli struck a magnificent shot from 30 yards out which found the top left corner. He then struck again early in the second half to give us the lead. Zuculini put the game beyond doubt with a well-placed header.

The club captain, Dani Parejo, has signed a new long-term contract as his current deal was expiring at the end of next season.

A huge month began against second from bottom Eibar. I expected them to put up a fight as they looked to avoid relegation but that wasn’t the case as we swept them aside with a 4-0 thrashing. Suso opened the scoring, which was shortly followed by a Negredo brace and Parejo topped it off with a fine strike.

A potential title decider against Real Madrid followed a week before we met again in the Spanish Cup Final. We just needed to avoid defeat to ensure that we remained in pole position for the title race. We played on the counter from kickoff in an attempt to cope with their attacking strength but we got off to a terrible start as the referee awarded Madrid a penalty after 6 minutes. Fortunately, Rodriguez struck the crossbar and we were let off the hook. We were able to withstand the heavy pressure until halftime but early in the second half Ronaldo found the net from close range. I was forced to change to our usual attacking style in an attempt to get back into the game. The most unlikely of scorers, Felipe Augusto, hit back with a magnificent 25-yard strike that went in off the underside of the bar. All we had to do was hold on for the remainder of the game and we would stay top. Real Madrid had chances left, right and centre but were unable to find the net again. We scraped out the ugliest of draws but we did what needed to be done!

Spanish Cup Final

Real Madrid vs. Valencia

Would Real Madrid retain the Spanish Cup or would Valencia win their first piece of silverware since 2008? It has been all about Valencia and Real Madrid this season as they are battling it out in the league and now meet in the final of the Spanish Cup. Valencia have been the better of the two sides when they have met as they beat Real Madrid 2-1 at home in the league and drew 1-1 away but now they meet on neutral territory and everyone is asking whether Valencia can continue their good run of form against Real Madrid.

Lineups

Real Madrid have an very strong attacking lineup featuring the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez but some may wonder why the likes of Sergio Ramos and Marcelo are not starting ahead of Mateo Musacchio and Alvaro Arbeloa.

View attachment 320834

Valencia have also had a change up at the back as Jose Luis Gaya comes in at left back, perhaps as he will cope better with the pace of Gareth Bale than Lucas Orban would of. Shkodran Mustafi has been moved to right back rather than his preferred centre back position, as he will have to contend with Cristiano Ronaldo. This also means than the young Ruben Vezo will come in at centre back. The attacking side of Valencia’s lineup is similar to what we have seen for the majority of the season.

Against all odds we had reached the final of the Spanish Cup and were up against this seasons bitter rivals Real Madrid. We were by no means the favourites for this eagerly anticipated clash but the lads were determined to prove that they are amongst the best in Spain. Before kickoff I told the players that they should play for our loyal fans and they are the ones who really deserve this. As the players walked out onto the pitch I knew that it was out of my hands and all I could do was anxiously yell at them from the sidelines.

We got the game underway and immediately gave the ball away to Illaramendi who propelled Madrid forward for them to win an early corner. I already had my head in my hands as I hoped nothing would come from this and thankfully we survived. Our first promising bit of play came from Parejo who hit the ball forward to Negredo who passed it wide to Feghouli to whip in a cross that found Rodrigo, but Musacchio cleared his header off the line! Minutes later Negredo and Rodrigo were involved again as they took the Casillas out of the game and squared the ball to Suso who stood in front of an empty net and poked it in! GOOOAAAAAALLLLL!!!!
We were 1-0 up after just 14 minutes!!

I yelled from the sideline to tell the players to concentrate as this was all but over. It seemed as though Real Madrid were having chance after chance and we were clinging on. I could feel a goal coming and I wasn’t wrong… Rodrigo found himself in space and found the net too to make it 2-0 to us!!! I couldn’t believe it; we scored against the run of play once again!

Just before halftime Diego Alves picked up a knock and I would of brought him off but I didn’t have another keeper on the bench! I couldn’t watch the remainder of the half but we held our lead until the break and went in with a 2-0 lead. I told the lads how pleased I was and to keep it up.

The second half began and I expected an immediate reply from Real Madrid but they weren’t able to take their chances and Diego Alves was able to make a save or two when required.

Real Madrid continued to dominate the game as we watched shots fly at our goal and I couldn’t watch whenever Ronaldo was on the ball. But round about the 70th minute it seemed as though they needed a breather and we managed to take control and involve Suso. He was able to find a pass through to Rodrigo who squared the ball for Alcacer who placed the ball past an out-of-position Casillas! We had scored again! I couldn’t believe it!!!! 3-0 up against the mighty Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Cup!

Real had a mountain to climb if they were to get back in the game and it didn’t seem likely as they had squandered numerous chances already. I felt as though the game was as good as won but I didn’t want the players to know that so I continued to shout at them from the sideline.

The final seconds approached and Real still hadn’t given up as Kroos aimed a corner to the far post but Otamendi headed it clear and the ref blew the whistle for fulltime!
VALENCIA ARE THE SPANISH CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!

I fell to my knees with relief as the confetti rained down on the pitch and the players celebrated their success. A great day for the fans and everyone involved at the club, but the season wasn’t over yet…

Our second last match of the season was against Celta. We had to win to stay in front of Real Madrid but Barcelona were out of the title race after losing to Real Sociedad and drawing with Atletico Madrid. Rodrigo continued his form from the final as he scored right before halftime. Alcacer also got on the scoresheet again to give us a 2-0 win.

The final match of the season came against Almeria, who we failed to beat earlier on in the season. Almeria seemed determined to cause an upset, as they did not give us an easy game. Feghouli scored early on to put us in the lead and a second not too long after. Celta pulled a goal back on the brink of halftime. It was nervy having a one-goal lead for most of the second half but Feghouli scored his third to win us the league!

Ould-Chikh was outstanding for a 17 year-old as he scored 11 goals and made 4 assists.

My Player of the Year

This was an easy decision as he has been the best player by a mile throughout the season. He scored 17 goals and registered 19 assists.

League Table
View attachment 320813

This was definitely the most thrilling title race I have ever been involved in and I have never won the league on the last day before or had to accumulate 94 points to win the league. I did not expect to win the league in my first season but the team was excellent and I really found a way to get the best out of them.

End of Season Awards

Top Spanish Goalscorer

Suso was the top Spanish goalscorer but he is yet to be called up to the Spain squad. Negredo came 2nd.

Goalkeeper of the Year

View attachment 320805

Ter Stegen won this as he conceded the least goals but I’m not sure how this works as he only played 27 league matches and had less clean sheets than Diego Alves who came 2nd.

Obviously this was between Messi and Ronaldo and Messi edged it by one goal in the end.

Manager of the Year

Player of the Year

A little disappointed that Suso didn’t feature as he did have the second highest average rating, the most assists, and the third most man of the match awards.

Otamendi and Suso made the starting XI while Rodrigo was on the bench.

Manager's Notes

I didn’t feel that we stood a chance at the start of the season when the board told me that I had to challenge for the title with the squad that I had to work with. I thought that there would be no way that I could push Barcelona and Real Madrid in a title race. I have never been so wrong. After getting to know the players and figuring out how to get the best out of them I had nothing but belief. I didn’t plan on winning the Spanish Cup as I wanted to focus on the league but I took the matches as they came and the results fell into place and before I knew it we were in the final where we were as clinical as I’ve ever seen us. I thought we were going to let the league slip from our grasp towards the end but individual moments of brilliance and hard work from each member of the team saw us over the line. My first season as a manager has been a resounding success as we completed a domestic double.

The question is where to now? I did say I was going to leave after I had won the league…

View attachment 320753

I dont know whether going to Barcelona would be the right thing to do right now as I feel that I should move on to another country. I'm not too keen on staying at Valencia for another season or waiting here for another job to come up because they have given me very little to work with in terms of transfer funds and many of my players want to leave and they have low release clauses and I will only recoup a third of the transfer fee because of the clubs debt.

I would like to hear what you think I should do next.

I took it upon myself to resign from my job as Valencia manager as I felt that I couldn't replicate the successes of last season and challenge in the Champions League at the same time with the very limited transfer funds that had been made available.

AVB took the Barcelona job after I decided that I should move on from Spain.

Arsene Wenger suddenly retired after Arsenal had a decent season finishing 2nd in the league, reaching the semis of the Champions League and the final of the FA Cup where they lost to Chelsea.

View attachment 320647

Espanyol offered me an interview, which I politely declined.

I did however accept an interview with both Napoli and Arsenal...

View attachment 320649

Napoli offered me the job first but I delayed my decision to wait and see what Arsenal had to say.

View attachment 320646

And Arsenal offered me the job too.

It would be great if anyone who is following could let me know who you would rather see me manage.

Napoli could be a good challenge but i would go with Arsenal! and try and bring through more English players as well and change what people used to think about them! lol

The Arsenal job is very tempting as they have a good squad at the moment and the transfer budget is massive!

As a Spurs fan I would rather you not win the league with Arsenal :P Never really seen a Napoli season either tbh.

Go to arsenal! See if you can win the league with their philosophies in place! You could be the manager to finally get them the champions league ;)

Chelsea were the winners here, it may seem like the title race was a tight one but Chelsea wrapped it up with about 5 games left and lost their last 5 games. Chelsea also won the FA Cup beating Arsenal in the final and Liverpool won the Capital One Cup.

The second chapter of my story as a Journeyman has begun and it will be with Arsenal. It was time to move on from Valencia after winning both the League and Spanish Cup which meant I had virtually conquered Spain! Wenger's retirement couldn't have come at a better time (for me) as it gives me an opportunity to manage one of the biggest clubs in England who have a great squad (in game) at the moment.

Squad

View attachment 319865

This is the squad before I entered the transfer market.

Key Players

Mesut Ozil

View attachment 319861

A class player and probably the best in the team.

Aaron Ramsey

View attachment 319859

We all know what he is capable of and hopefully I can have him playing at his best.

Sami Khedira

View attachment 319858

Wenger signed him at the start of last season and he is exactly what Arsenal need. He will be the strength in an otherwise weak midfield.

Laurent Koscielny

View attachment 319857

A solid defender with very few weaknesses in his game. Definitely the best CB in this team.

Wojciech Szczesny

View attachment 319856

A decent keeper. I was a little surprised by his ability in all honesty but he looks good enough.

Future Stars

Nguyen Van Thuong

View attachment 319855

Only one player was worth shouting about and that was Nguyen Van Thuong. Born in Vietnam but capped for England at U19 level. He's been dubbed the new Paul Gascoigne by the media and looks like he will be one of the best players in the world if he is able to reach his potential.

Transfers

View attachment 319854

Wenger was busy before he decided to retire and signed three decent players. I cant say that they would be players that I would've signed but they are players the team needed. The most notable player to leave the club was Abou Diaby but I cant say that he will be missed as he didn't play a single game for the club last season.

Lucas Digne

View attachment 319853

PSG have been stripped after they failed to qualify for the Champions League and Wenger picked up a very handy left back who has good attributes all-round. He is already worth double his transfer fee.

Adem Ljajic

View attachment 319852

A player with lots of ability and still a bit of room to grow. He is a welcome addition as the left wing is short of a few players. He too is already worth a lot more than his transfer fee.

Stefan de Vrij

View attachment 319851

A good defender who will probably be a rotation option for now. He was signed the day before I arrived but it was a good piece of business yet again.

Preseason

Transfers

View attachment 319639

I got all my business done fairly early on. I knew what I needed and who I wanted to bring in and luckily I didn't have a lot of trouble getting rid of the players I didn't want. First to leave was Joel Campbell as he wasn't good enough for me and I think I did well to get £8m for him. The departure of Santi Cazorla may come as I surprise but I wanted to cash in on him while I could and he was on relatively high wages for an average player. Carl Jenkinson also departed as I felt he was nowhere near the standard needed here. Lukas Podolski was sold for the same reasons as Cazorla as he was on £100k a week and not getting any younger, I think I'm still paying him part of his wage for another season as he demanded so much. Mikel Arteta was let go in the end as he threw a strop after I replaced him as captain and I was glad to see the back of him.

We brought in two of England's brightest talents in Raheem Sterling and Ross Barkley. Victor Wanyama was signed as backup for Khedira and Chris Laycock (unfortunate name) was a youngster I decided to bring in as he looks like he will be a world-class striker in the future.

Ross Barkley - £19m
View attachment 319635

He will be backup to Ozil and a replacement for Cazorla (sort of).

Raheem Sterling - £41m
View attachment 319634

I thought I would go big on one signing this summer and Raheem is definitely a player that fits in to this squad perfectly. He can play naturally in a few positions but I have signed him to play as an inside forward on the left as our right-wing is already packed.

Victor Wanyama - £11.5m
View attachment 319631

We had no backup for Khedira and I really wanted a player who could be a physical presence in the midfield and Wanyama is the perfect player. We were able to pick him up for fairly cheap after Southampton finished 17th last season! (I forgot the SS so this is from where I am now)

Chris Laycock - £7.5m
View attachment 319630

Perhaps a little too much for a 16 year-old but who doesn't love a young, pacey, English striker! I wouldn't expect to see him feature too often this season but it will be interesting to see how he develops.

View attachment 319629

Well, that couldn't of gone any better! 35 goals scored and only 2 conceded, which were from set-pieces. Good performances in all the games and almost everyone is fully fit.

Community Shield vs. Chelsea
View attachment 319628

I wasn't too bothered about this in all honesty but I still wanted to win! We got off to a great start as debutant Raheem Sterling showed exactly why I paid £41m for him as he gave us the lead after fifteen minutes. Per Mertesacker doubled our lead from a set-piece before the thirty minute mark. We were looking good at halftime with a 2-0 lead. Another debut goal, this time from Lucas Digne wrapped it up and not even a red card for Khedira could ruin our day as we ran out 3-0 winners.

At the end of preseason I have a rough idea of what my first choice team will be but I expect a few players to force their way in as this team has bundles of quality.

Quick question - where the **** is alexis sanchez?

He's there, just horribly underrated imo. Chamberlain, Walcott and Sanchez all have about the same CA but he is miles better in real life.

I've always thought they didn't give Sanchez his fare share of stats, however they made up for it by making Welbeck a superstar!

Our first league match was an eventful one as we travelled to Southampton. They struggled in the league last season but still have a fairly decent squad who put up a good fight. Sterling gave us a very early lead with a well-placed shot from close range. It looked as though we would cruise to victory from then on but my defenders were caught napping and Tadic made us pay with their first shot of the game. Walcott then put us back in the lead, which we held until halftime. Sow pulled one back for Southampton early in the second half and as the match went on it looked as though it would end in a draw. Thankfully that wasn't the case as Besler (OG) knocked Giroud's shot into his own net. Khedira wrapped things up to give us a 4-2 win.

vs. Man Utd
View attachment 319380

Our first real test in the league came against Man Utd and I was keen to see how good we really were. Danny Welbeck got to start against his old team as I hoped he would be able to stick one past them and he did exactly that just ten minutes into the match! Our defence stood firm as we didn't allow them many chances throughout the game but Mertesacker found himself involved at the other end when he found the net from a corner to put us two to the good. I sat back anxiously waiting for Man Utd to pull one back but it didn't happen as we ran out 2-0 winners!

This went to Mertesacker as he scored two goals this month (one in the community shield) and was part of the defence that kept two clean sheets.

We should qualify top of this group in all honesty as our squad is far deeper and has a lot more quality than any of the others.

True, will you give him individual training on it or just leave it cos you're only there for a year?

He's being trained as a complete forward atm and I don't see him getting much better as he's reached his PA. Even if I did give him training it will probably only go up to 11 or 12 if I'm lucky.
