I have used this tactic to take Huddersfield up at the first attempt and currently have Sunderland in their second season in the Champion's league (in my fourth season). [Premier League Champions x2 Carling cup x 1 Community Shield x 2].
I use this as one of my 3 base tactics and alternate between them on frequent and irregular intervals to keep the opposition guessing - I am known as the tinkerer but hey - it seems to work. I have also used a 4-4-2 throughout the 4 seasons and am currently working on a 4-2-3-1 deep tactic that seems to be going alright, if a bit heavy on draws, but it's early days.
This is the best tactic I have come across though in my opinion, and although it may not work in every situation, see the post above about getting beat heavily by Spurs repeatedly, over the course of the season it should yield way better results than other tactics I have used.
Make the tactic fit the players would be my advice, unless you can afford to get the players to fit the tactic of course.
Take Care,
Norm
