Legendary Players make Great Managers... don't they?

Job Offers

Two job offers came through within a couple of hours of each other and they seriously did make me think. I'm struggling currently with my time in Germany and was tempted to head home back to Italy to Parma. But I am convinced that 1860 Munich can survive this season and progress.

A match we went into given no chance by the media to get anything from. But we did ourselves proud, only falling to two unfortunate late goals. Julian Weigl had a great match being a rock in the centre of midfield.

View attachment 297608
2-1 up at half time and I really thought we might have gone on to pick up a vital three points. Leverkusen were resilient though and battled back for a share of the spoils. A point gained though, which will hopefully help us avoid relegation.

Just like in the return fixture, Dortmund completely dominated. We struggled from start to finish and didn't deserve a thing from the match.

At the end of the day I'm just glad to get through a very tough month. Away to Bayern, Dortmund and home to Leverkusen, all teams from the elite of the league. We did well against our rivals until the last minutes, but at the end of the day we lost. Our future in the bundesliga is beginning to look bleak and we really need to step it up in the remaining fixtures.

Player of the Month

Julian Wiegl - The young midfielder had a solid month against some top class opposition. Hopefully he can continue this form as we pursue the points we need.

What a brilliant result after a slight stumble last month. The whole team played amazingly and it's not possible to pick one stand out performer.

View attachment 297604
If it hadn't been for our magnificent run this season I'd have said this would've been a good result. But we're on the verge of Champions League football and we really need to be winning these matches.

View attachment 297602
Another team battling relegation and a difficult result to swallow. Frankfurt played well but they weren't deserving of the win.

An annoying month to say the least. Three matches, and three expected wins but it wasn't to be. If we want to be considered worthy of challenging near the top of the table we should be winning these matches. I know we've just been promoted but we have already shown that we can compete at those heights.

Dominik Kaiser - Player of the Month
An easy choice for player of the month. Kaiser has shown that the leap from the lower division to this is non-existant for him as he has shown he is more than capable of competing at this level.

Job Offer

View attachment 297529
Another job offer out of the blue. Money-wise it is the best offer I have had since I began my career at 1860 Munich. But seeing as Freiburg are one of the few teams I'm above I have declined the offer.

Finally we stepped it up and bagged ourselves three points. Beating a team down battling relegation is exactly what the doctor ordered.

View attachment 297475
Going up against Freiburg I presumed it would be a relatively easy match and a much needed three points. No such luck as they more than matched us the entire match. Still a point closer to some of the teams above us as the season gets ever closer to the close.

View attachment 297473
Frankfurt were sitting pretty up in midtable and I knew we would be in for a tough game. But the lads didn't seem to let that phase them as they romped to a magnificent 5-0 victory. And another much need three points.

View attachment 297472
I can't quite believe the run of form we have hit at this vital part of the season. Whilst I loved the three points to help us get ever closer to being able to think about surviving relegation, I feel bad for my friend Del Piero as a victory against us may have got them Champions League qualification.

View attachment 297468
Another game and another three points. Werder just didn't turn up and we took full advantage. Three more vital points. Get in!

An amazing run of results at exactly the right time for us. We're not out of the woods yet and so many teams could still get relegated as we head into the final week of the season. I'm trying to reserve my happiness until we are guaranteed survival and on the last game of the season we travel to Hannover.

Player of the Month

Ahmed Hamoudi - A great month for the only permanent signing I have made for the club. Signed the youngster for £475k and he is now worth a few million. We need to stay up in order to keep a player of his talents.

A great result for us in our pursuit of the top four in the first season. Daniel Frahn shown his composure netting four times, with three from the spot. Nerves of steel.

View attachment 297461
Another brilliant result with Lucas Andersen doing the job this time. Werder Bremen weren't as bad as the score line suggests but we'll take it.

View attachment 297459
That man again, Daniel Frahn grabs himself another three goals as we put Hannover to the sword. Keeping up with the top four we pretty much need a couple of wins from our last three to get Champions League football.

View attachment 780181
When we equalised I honestly thought that we would go on and win it. But 1860 shown their desire to battle relegation and they got their victory. Hopefully three points in the next match will help us qualify for Europe.

View attachment 297458
Koln have been on a great run of form recently but throwing a two goal lead away just isn't on. Not a happy manager.

We had a brilliant start to the month with 13 goals in 3 games but we just couldn't get over that line to grab Champions League qualification. Going into the last week of the season we somehow need to get a result at home to Schalke which isn't the easiest of tasks.

Daniel Frahn - Player of the MonthFive games, eight goals. Daniel Frahn is quite simply captain amazing, scoring for penalties and looking the ever calm and composed player he is. Great player.

Going into the last game of the season, teams right up to tenth place are still at risk of relegation. Hopefully I can get a result against Hannover to guarantee my safety.

Nail biting finish Roberto, good luck mate!

Thanks mate, think I'm going to need it. Hoping to get on this in the next few hours. I think a point my do it, but I wouldn't bet on that. Just hoping that if I get relegated, I keep my job. I'm enjoying this cash strapped challenge.

A great win and show of resilience secures us a berth in the qualifying stages of the Champions League. We played very well against a tough side.

That's the season all wrapped up now. We finished well above our 18th place expectations and have somehow managed to match the consistencies of some of the best teams in the country by finishing in the top 4. The Champions League will be tough but can only help to add to the experience of our young squad. Hopefully we can push on and do the same again in the league next season and the extra games won't affect us too much.

I think this was an easy choice for the fans this Season. Involved in 32 goals in 34 games, Kaiser has been outstanding this season.

Winning the Manager of the Year award and Players Manager of the Year in our first season in the division is huge for myself and the Club. We really look like we're going places.

View attachment 297415
Dominik Kaiser added to his accolades showing that he is one of the best. Winning Midfielder of the Season in the Bundesliga. No mean feat when you look at his competition.

View attachment 297414
Marcel Sabitzer, another player who had a great season won the Newcomer of the Year awards thanks to his non-stop action performances.

View attachment 297413
Young centre back Lukas Klostermann shown what he is capable of this season, and rightfully shown that he is one to watch for the future. Winning the U19's player of the season.

View attachment 297412
Our budgets for next season have already been announced and we have a nice hefty budget to try and help us sustain the European Football we desire.

Job Offers
Within weeks of the season ending a multitude of offers were sent from around Europe. All of which have subsequently been rejected. Champions League football with Leipzig is what I am concentrated on right now.

Our brilliant form towards the end of the season continued! And an absolutely brilliant way to end it with a 4-1 away win.
____________________________________

That's it, it's over and we survived! Thanks to our good turn of form over April and May we pretty much achieved the seemingly impossible and battled our way out of relegation. I think it all began to turn around after we were knocked out of the Europa League which really tired out my small squad. I then decided to change the formation to two up top and hope for no injuries as I only had two strikers at the club capable of playing at this level and it paid off. Unfortunately Arkadiusz Milik is only here on loan and a bit out of our price range for a permanent move so we may have to look elsewhere (yes Fierro from last season has been looked at but again is out of our price range).

I felt a little bit sorry for Hertha at the end of the season, who thanks to a big loss swapped places with Mainz on goals scored despite their much better defensive record. Well done to Del Piero and Leipzig on a truly wonderful season, hopefully I'll be closer to that end of the league next season.

We have money to spend next Season!! I can't quite believe it. There are plenty of places we need to strengthen, but firstly I need a striker to partner Rodri.

Daniel Adlung has been the man pulling the strings in our midfield. Even in defeat he always had a good showing of himself. He has earnt this acknowledgement this season.

Job Offers

Del Piero is not the only one inundated with job offers, albeit after he had rejected them. It's still nice to feel wanted. I've rejected them all as with a little bit of funds I'm quite excited about the possibilities with the right signings.

Not sure how a centre back from a relegation battling team got in the team of the Season, but I'm proud to say Christopher Schindler is in with the elite.

Transfer Window Opens

View attachment 297335
As soon as it was announced we would have money to spend we got straight to business with signing a central midfielder, Nick Powell on a free transfer (bargain!). Angelo Henriquez a striker from Manchester United looks like the ideal partner for Rodri. And attacking full back Yilli Sallahi from our local rivals Bayern Munich looks ideal to strengthen our side.

Still some money in the kitty, but first I'll be doing a thorough evaluation of my current squad to single out the weaknesses.

This transfer window is all about strengthening the squad. Two centre backs coming in in the form of Tah and Christensen, and Lopez who can play across all the midfield and up top. With Champions League football being enough to tire my players I want to ensure I have adequate quality cover all over the shop, and my next target will be a left back.

After Schalke release Felipe Santana at the end of the season, I knew I had to approach him to see the kind of wages he would require. I was very happy to find that he just wanted to continue his nine seasons in the Bundesliga and lowered his demands. And to the delight of myself and fans he has signed on the dotted line on a free transfer.
