LEAGUE TABLE - HERE

I watched Mallorca - Real Madrid game, Aouate was on fire, secured the draw for Mallorca, it wasnt a good start for Mourinho :(

Barca were brilliant today, loved Iniesta's goal, surprised that Madrid couldn't get the win. :S

I'm not surprised Madrid could only draw. Won £15 because of it :) Mallorca were solid at home last season

Just seen this Stu. Nice idea...

As much as i hate Barca's attitude, and constant approaches for Fabregas, they're an immense team to watch, as the national team is (Spain's, not ours :P). Madrid have some quality players in their team now, i'd like to see Ozil do well, and prove he made the right decision, which i imagine he has, considering the two leagues seem fairly similar (please, correct me if i'm wrong, i just feel that the top teams both like quick, short passing football, with plenty of flair..). Mourinho is a superb manager, and will surely be the answer to Madrid's dismal run in Europe.

Well, when you watch Spain play you may as well watch Barca - Puyol, Pique, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, Pedro, and now Villa are in starting XI of Spain.
Real have the problem that the players need to gel and get used to be together, by which time could be too late. No-one really knows how Jose will use the side at Real, as he used a few formations and systems in pre-season, which also has the threat that they are flexible and versatile.
Also, I don't think you can compare anyone with Barca's style of play, other than the Spain national side. And the league is much more competetive from top to bottom, as we saw tonight with Real & Mallorca(5 years ago, Real would have scored 4 or 5 past Mallorca).
I support Barca, so I automatically have a dislike for Real, but I do see Mourinho being the type of coach for Real, who will build a squad to do the job now(Carvalho and co), but also have an eye on the future(Ozil, Khedira, Canales to name just a few). The big thing is this - If Jose fails to win La Liga and/or Champions League, will Real's president disperse of him, or give him time?
Spanish directors(and the Spanish in general) have a habit of kicking things to the dirt after one fail, and Florentino Pérez is possibly the worst of all. He sacked Capello after winning the League, and a clutch of managers before letting them build a squad.

For sure, it will be an interesting season, possibly one of the closest, and intriguing.

Mourinho is gonna give Real madrid something that they havent got in a while : stability! Main thing is that, and also to keep Valdano off for a bit, the little **** ! Its gonna a fantastic season, but in the end I think Real Madrid will prevail .. Hopefuly :)

Mourinho learnt from one of the very best, Sir Bobby Roson(RIP:wub:), and is IMO, the best manager in the world today

And some of the worst : Van Gaal ;)

The only annoying thing is that only Real Madrid & Barcelona who fight for the championship, in England you have 4 or 5 teams, and in Spain only two ..

not a good result for real madrid, just seen the score

Fantastic result for Espanyol. Cheers for this thread StuW

Atletico Madrid! Superb start to the season

I couldn’t disagree more! In the last what 6-8 years? It’s been Man Utd or Chelsea to take the spoils.

Sure Liverpool and Arsenal have had half hearted title challenges but then again so have Valencia and Villareal.

Only three English sides have won the Premiership since 1995

Couldn't agree more Kris. More or less every league has a top two or 3, with a gap between them and the rest of the league. In Spain Barca have won 4 of the last 6 league titles, with Real winning the other two, which is a prime example of the top teams having a gap.

Last season, Barca finished with 99 points, Real 96, and third placed Valencia were 25 points behind Real.

Absolutely unbelievable. I cannot believe it.
