TEAM NEWS
Liverpool's record signing Andy Carroll is a doubt to face his former club due to the knee injury he suffered a fortnight ago.
Teenage full-back Jack Robinson could again deputise for Glen Johnson.
Newcastle keeper Steve Harper has recovered from a knee injury but he is not expected to displace Tim Krul.
Captain Kevin Nolan hopes to play despite nursing a groin strain, but on-loan midfielder Stephen Ireland is out for the rest of the season.

Liverpool
Doubtful: Carroll (knee), Johnson (hamstring)
Injured: Agger (knee), Aurelio & Kelly (both hamstring), Gerrard (groin)

Newcastle
Doubtful: Nolan (groin)
Injured: Ben Arfa (broken leg), Best, Ireland & Smith (all ankle), Gosling (knee), Guthrie (shin)

MATCH PREVIEW
Three months ago, Newcastle were banking their £35m cheque after selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool on the final day of the January transfer window; something of a calculated gamble for a newly-promoted side with no ready-made replacement lined up.

"We don't know if he'll be fit. For Andy (Carroll) it's a poignant game but if he's not fit, he's not fit. We can't do anything about that"
Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool manager

Since then, the Magpies' makeshift strike force have stepped up to the plate and look to have secured their Premier League survival while the club's scouts have trawled the globe looking for Carroll's long-term successor.
Newcastle may have failed to score in five of their 11 Premier League games since the England striker's departure, yet over the course of the season the Magpies have averaged more points without him in their side (1.26 per game) as opposed to with him (1.15).
Whereas most Geordie eyes will be focussed on a potential sighting of their former local hero, the partisan Liverpool followers will only have eyes for one of their own, Jamie Carragher.
If selected, the ever-popular Bootle-born defender will move into joint second place in the Reds' all-time appearance list alongside legends Ray Clemence and Emlyn Hughes, both of whom donned the Liverpool shirt 665 times. The all-time record is held by another local lad, Toxteth-born Ian Callaghan who featured in a phenomenal 857 games for the club.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
• A Liverpool victory would be their 50th league win in 75 games against the Magpies at Anfield.
• The Reds have beaten Newcastle 19 times in Premier League history and are 15 games unbeaten against them at Anfield, winning the last five.
• Newcastle are looking to complete a first league double over the Reds since the 1993/94 season. Rob Lee and Andrew Cole scored in their last success at Anfield, a 2-0 victory in April 1994.
• The Magpies' 3-1 win at St James' Park in the reverse fixture was Alan Pardew's first game in charge of Newcastle.
Liverpool
• The Reds have taken 27 points from their last 13 matches.
• Liverpool are the only Premier League club to have scored in all their Premier League fixtures (16) in 2011.
• Dirk Kuyt has scored seven goals in the club's last six league matches. He will become the seventh Reds players to score in four successive Premier League games if he nets against Newcastle.
• If selected, Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Maxi, last week's hat-trick hero, will be making their 50th Liverpool appearances in all competitions.
Newcastle
• The Magpies have won only one of their last seven away league matches, a 2-0 victory at Birmingham during February.
• Victory would see Newcastle become the only Premier League side to record wins away to both Merseyside clubs this season.
• Merseyside-born Joey Barton is the only visiting player to have been sent-off twice at Anfield in Premier League history. He saw red for Manchester City in 2006 and for Newcastle three years later.

Just on my way out to it, doing so really late...
Meh, 3-0. Relatively comfortable, Kuyt, Luis, and...drum roll... LUCAS! to score. Doubt Carroll' play.

I can't see Carroll playing either, maybe he'll make a cameo from the bench at best. My predicted line-up:

Reina
Flanagan - Carragher - Skrtel - Robinson
Lucas - Spearing
Kuyt - - - - - - Meireles - - - - - - Maxi
Suarez

Glen Johnson returns to Liverpool's starting XI for their lunchtime kick-off with Newcastle - listen live online from 11.55pm BST.

Andy Carroll has not been deemed fit enough to start against his former club, but he is on the bench.

That means the Reds team is: Reina, Johnson, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Lucas, Spearing, Maxi, Meireles, Kuyt, Suarez. Subs: Gulacsi, Kyrgiakos, Robinson, Shelvey, Cole, Ngog, Carroll.

Reina
Flanagan - Carragher - Skrtel - Johnson
Lucas - Spearing
Kuyt - - - - - - Meireles - - - - - - Maxi
Suarez

Although I can imagine it will be Kuyt up front with Meireles being pushed wide.

Great to have Johnson back!

Liverpool have been quality lately and we've been fairly poor, I can see us getting dominated. 3-0 liverpool, but I'd be happy to limit them to 3 tbh

The 3 points are more important than the score today, but it'd still be nice to get as many goals as poss to beef up our GD - just in case we finish equal on points with the Spuds.

We seem a bit anxious - a lot of mistimed tackles resulting in FKs. We could do with another to settle nerves.

HT: 1-0.

We MUST improve in the second half. Far too much possession given to the Bar Codes; they had six corners to our zero !

Sort them out Kenny !

Decent first half display, but that's all. Decent, nothing special. We need to create more chances in the second half. Johnson's comeback has looked good so far.

We'll regret not getting a goal that half, and we won't score with a 4-4-2 with Nolan as a CM. That basically leaves Tioté vs their 5 midfielders.

Also; "Taylor shagged your lass, he shagged your lass, he shagged her! Taylor shagged your lass, he shagged your lass, he shagged her!" and "You're just a **** Ameobi!"
