That's a shame, it would be nice if they were doing well in real life too! Maybe I will do another story with them next season, and it might be more challenging!

Player material wise malmö is the best team in the league by a few levels
The problem now is, there is no tactic or "game idea" if you know what I mean

Last year we had a great target (Thelin, now Bordeaux League sold) and Forsberg, great inside forward (now RBL sold)

We replaced them with some nice quality, Magnus Eikrem (from cardiff), oscar lewicki, good CM/CDM
and some nice youth in the team that we already have, bought another good CB from eredivise

So the players are good, but they dont fit into any tactic together!
For example eikrem gets to play on the wing, and hes worthless there, hes a very good cam/cm but doesnt play there

It surprises me the coach failed with this, since he usually is so good at creating teams!
But he can still get it right ;)

Shame you had to let Ajer go, he is a great little player!

Yeah he probably would have turned out well but I couldn't turn down that figure for an inconsistent player who wasn't in serious contention for a starting place any more. Hopefully Chelsea develop him then sell him on for a big fee, we will get 50% of it

You'd have to be starting to turn a hefty profit now also surely Pat?

They need to bring in a better manager by the sounds of it. Look no further than here ;)

Funny you should say that. End of both seasons we recorded a profit, then suddenly a couple of weeks (in-game) ago, I got an email saying we'd lost 10 million for the season, which was 30% of our turnover! So I investigated and I think it's to do with the upgrades to facilities which have recently started, but even so, that was part of the reason I sanctioned the Ajer sale, I don't want to get into debt. I have better budgets than I did at the start, my wage budget is about triple the starting one, but I'm being cautious

Nothing wrong with reinvesting profits back into the business!

Wow - a lot of love from those players on the way out! You must be a real players manager!!

Apparently so! Even the ones who never played a game under me! I was expecting to get grilled for selling Rosenberg but fortunately it appears everyone else could see that he wasn't up to the standard any more, so it was best for all involved to part ways.

Friendly Match - Chelsea (Home)

I’ve decided to go with my attacking formation today. It’s only a friendly and I’m keen to see how it fares against a truly world class team. Chelsea haven’t pulled any punches and a very strong side including new 31m (possible rise to 40m) signing Lorenzo Insigne takes the field. I hope we don’t miss Helander and Gustafson too much.

The first twenty minutes was relatively even, but uneventful.

By the 35 minute mark we were on the front foot more, with a 55-45 edge in possession, but Chelsea had 3 shots to our 2.

In the 37th minute Santos played a massive high long ball for KBH. The Korean cut in from the right, raced between three players, and narrowly missed the top left corner.

Kardum replaced Neri in the 51st minute.

And it was Kardum who put us ahead in the 61st minute, when he struck a brutally powerful header from near the penalty spot into the net from a Romagnoli corner!

In the 67th minute I made wholesale changes, which you can see below, easier than listing! Romagnoli and KSG were the only starters who were still on.

In the 79th minute Mohlin replaced KSG.

And less than a minute later Chelsea were equal, a low Moutinho corner finding Fabregas for an emphatic finish into the roof of the net.

Not much else happened from there, other than Chelsea making a whole host of late substitutions.

A decent result. It’s a shame we couldn’t see out the win but I’m not too bothered, we only conceded with the reserves on the park. Positive signs for the season ahead - look out Liverpool! :(

POM: Chris Smalling (Chelsea - 8.0, 0G, 0A)

Best Malmö Player: Damián Romagnoli (7.7, 0G, 1A)

Injury News...

Disastrous news! KSG is out for 5-6 weeks (I sent him to a specialist). He will probably miss the games against Liverpool, and the only decent keeper I have is Mohlin! Baptism of fire coming up for the youngster.
Confirmation of my fears. KSG will miss both legs :(

More interviews…
PSG bought this guy for 28 million (according to his history, below it says 25) 6 months ago…

Transfer News...

One of the more intriguing offers I have received. I can't loan Delahaye out at this stage, as he's on a youth contract, and will remain that way until the end of the season. So the question is, do I sell Eriksson, and make the Belgian my third striker, or do I keep Eriksson, who is home grown for nation, but not club, and leave Delahaye in the youth team, with the occasional taste of first team action? Decisions, decisions...

What would you do in my position? Sell? Keep? Other?

Personally I like any non first 22 (I have an 11 for the league and an 11 for the cup) to be young guys. I also prefer to have any many prospects as possible in my 2nd 11 also. So I would sell Eriksson.

I agree, and in any previous save I have had I would recognise "okay, Eriksson isn't going to get any better, I should give Delahaye as much game time as possible to help him develop". But I decided to try to be somewhat more realistic, and think like a real life manager. Such a manager is never going to sell his 25 year old striker who has been at the club a few years, and entrust that responsibility to a pair of 18 year olds and a 16 year old, especially when only one of them has played for the club before, and him only for a season. So I decided to keep Eriksson.

I know some of my other decisions, such as buying these young unproven strikers in the first place, aren't like a real manager, but it is Football Manager. Adding some realism, but obviously it can't all be! :P

Transfer News...

But meanwhile, I’ve completed a deal of my own - a new club record transfer at 8.75 million…
Colombian playmaker Juan Fernando Quintero! One of my favourite players on last year’s game, and hopefully he’ll be as good for me at Malmö as he was for me at Southampton! He was listed for loan at FCP, but I swooped with a transfer offer. He won’t be eligible for the Champions League however, having represented Porto already. A highly creative player, and a set piece specialist, he’ll be fighting for the AMC role, and I think that Neri, Kardum or Petkovic will have to be loaned out, or even sold (only in the case of Neri) as my attacking midfield and wings are stacked!

Wow Quintero looks fantastic. Also a testament to how far you have brought Malmo along that a player as good as that would consider leaving Porto for you guys!

I know, we've come a long way! My coaches rate him much lower than some of my other players but an attributes comparison shows that they're wrong, so I'm happy with the signing :)
