maybe. but the reason he retired was he was always the number 3 defender and then when there were injuries they played upson and jagielka instead. so retired because he wasn't first team or 3rd choice.

Lol I agree with what you say, He thought that he should of been next up really, but to be fair because he was getting on I think Jagielka and Upson were always going to get the nod over him. He's been part of one of the best defences in the Prem for years as well so fair doos to him, I know he's hated by Man United supporters with a passion !

Think his concern is very valid - is Taggart rounding his game out? Or is he trying to force Anderson into a specialised role which doesn't suit his game? We'll see. Lucas on the otherhand has been played both as a holding midfielder and as the link midfielder - Rafa's always been clear that Lucas is a link midfielder and he's rounding his game out by playing him occasionally as cover for Mash. We don't have the 'meia' in English football - we had the 'box-to-box' midfielder instead, a breed which has died out as their function has disappeared tactically. Once people start to appreciate what players like Falcao brought to their teams then we'll start to see praise for Lucas increase. The lad's done well. Took Diego a lot longer and a manager building a team round him to settle in Europe.

Read that before, good blog. His concern is valid to an extent because Anderson's attacking ability has been curbed a bit (although sometimes I think this is down to the lad himself) but as Vickey acknowledges he has become more all round, and I have said for ages, and I think Vickery would perhaps agree, is that as this physical embodiment of our balance between attack and defence, in a year or two Anderson will be one of the most complete midfielders in the world. The main reason Anderson hasn't been played as a 'meia' for us is because we've never used one-just like you said most teams haven't.

I think my concern would be that Taggart has never been able to produce a 'well-rounded' midfielder. He's bought ready made ones (Keane or Hargreaves) or developed superb but one-dimensional ones (Scholes). He's had a couple of attempts with South American 'link' midfielders (Kleberson and Veron - both world class when he bought them) and they both failed quite dramatically.

anderson is a god to me. i'm not sure if i'm happy or sad about that article but i know one thing, i want to watch that game. anderson is a great midfielder and i always thought that we were playing him in a different position but i think fergie is just trying to make him a more complete midfielder so when scholes retires and giggs and he's the main man he will be able to defend and attack.

anderson is obviously very attacking when he's allowed to be but how could he be such a goal threat when it looks now like he doesn't posses the technique or calmness (although he's proven he can deal with the pressure when in penalty shooutouts) to ever score. the best chance he ever had he laid it on a plate.

i hope that we don't turn him totally into a holding midfielder. but i am a bit worried thats whats saf's intentions are.

thoroughly depressing. apart from saying such nice things he then says they subbed him because he was being TOO POSITIVE. he'll never score if we sub him for being attacking.
