I have Stegen and Areola at Ajax and after seasonal testing with both goalkeepers i find Areola to be a much better and consistent goalkeeper. Not only from cleansheets but also from penalty shoot outs or penalties mid game. Areola is a monster at saving penalties for some reason. I find Stegan can also some time go off the boil and loose concentration completely in some games. Perhaps Areola is better because i tend to use the same teamtalks from my assistant and perhaps Stegen needs more loving from me. The point is Areola has been better for me than Stegen.
First time i thought he just had terrible training so next playthrough i got him straightaway when he was 19 - same thing.
Despite good allaround stats he just plays very inconsistently and tends to mess up a lot, particularily in big games. Plus his actual
shot stopping and positioning are rather mediocre. Definitely not worth that price tag.
