End of season update..
In a season for York where they stormed the BSP finishing 1st on 88 points, only 2 points clear of 2nd placed Luton, and also getting an outstanding goal difference of +48, finishing with the best defensive record in the league and finishing as the 2nd highest scorers in the division, it has certainly been a season to remember for The Minster Men.
A man extremely popular with the York faithful this season has been the boss Max King, leading his side to an FA Trophy victory, promotion league football, and overachieving with York by a long mile. The respected gaffer was quoted saying – “It’s been an interesting season to say the least. We were predicted to finish outside of the play offs with season, and just about get into the top half, but we’ve ended up winning the league in outstanding fashion, and also getting some more silverware to come with that with the FA Trophy win. I’ve got a good feeling about next season, consecutive promotions are a rarity, and only the best managers can do it, but the lads have shown fantastic spirit and there are some players here like Richard Brodie who could be fantastic in League 2, and can be vital for us. Of course we’ll look to improve the squad, but my main aim is to keep this club financially secure. That pretty much means looking on the free transfers list will be like a hobby for me over the summer, and I’m sure there is a lot of quality up for grabs in there, but until then we’ll enjoy our much needed rest, and look forward to the joys of professional league football”.
Official Player of the Season Award...
“And the award goes to... Daniel Jones of York!”.
“This is a great award for me to receive, I always saw coming on loan to the BSP as a big gamble, but it’s seriously paid off for me at York. To win this award in my first season in this league gives credit to me, my team and most of all, my manager Max King. We’ve always had confidence as a team throughout the season, mostly installed from the manager on match days and at training, telling us we’re some of the most talented player’s he’s seen at this level for quite a while, when a manager tells you that it gives you so much confidence, it’s beyond belief. My contract runs out at Wolves this season, and I’ll be waiting until this club that I’ve fell in love with, offers me a return permanently. Thank you”.
Official Manager of the Year award...
“And the award, for manager of the year, goes to... Max King of York!”
“Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting to be taking and awards home tonight that’s for sure. On behalf of York Football Club, I would like to accept this award with great honour. It’s been a quality season for us and I’ve clearly done something right by winning this award, I guess winning the league and the FA Trophy isn’t too bad. Although, no manager is anything without players with the correct attitude towards the game, and that’s what I’ve got here, a fantastic bunch of players. No matter what he position we were in, they kept their heads held high, and for that I’m very honoured to be a part of this club with them. Let’s all hope for bigger and better things to come for York, and hopefully one day we’ll be in the Premier League with the big boys. We’re all allowed to dream eh?”
“Thank you.”
My Personal Player Awards...
Player of the season..
Unlike the official verdict, my award will go to Richard Brodie. He’s been fantastic all season and has scored 36 goals in all competitions, with 26 of them in the league. He has came up at the most important times for us every time we’ve needed him to, and he does it every time. He seems to be a big game player for us, but thankfully he’s not a slouch either against the smaller teams, which is a massive bonus. He’s a quality player and I hope we can keep him.
‘Most Important’ Player of the season...
Now, you might think this is the same as Player of the season, but it is not. This goes to the player who without him our team looks lost, unbalanced and 2nd class. That man, is Alex Lawless. He’s been so important as a centre midfielder, he slotted in superbly as a deep lying playmaker, and managed 7 goals and 11 assists all season, battling through numerous long term injuries over the course of the season. Fantastic player and he will be here next season.
League Table...
We did fantastically well in the league, finishing 1st on 88 points, with an outstanding goal difference of +48. We didn't win the league by a landslide by any means, but a bit of bad form near the end loosened our 9 point lead we had at one point. Great season ![Smile :) :)](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)
FA Trophy...
Icing on the cake for a fantastic season, with us getting a cup final win to get us the double. The final was pretty easy to be honest, with us beating a poor Wrexham side 4-0. Ironically the final was probably the easiest game we had in the whole competition. Good cup win nevertheless.
So, we had a cracking season, and hopefully we can do it again next season ![Smile :) :)](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)
