(6)Mccollio09’s Buy English Shortlist(A)

So many users on here claim that it’s impossible to win the league with just using English players. Well, this list should help test that theory. (I believe it can be done)

All players in this list are 21 and under. This list has been made on the original game, not a new patch. Only players deemed worthy of performing for a team capable of at least a top half premier league finish are included. This list is subjective and as such may vary in accordance with your own views, but if you feel I have missed out any player, feel free to suggest him to me in the thread and I’ll look him up before deciding if they deserve to be on it. This list has been made on any of the following criteria: Accelerated saves, scout reports, personal scouting, personal experience.

KEY:

*= Future top half player

**= Challenging for Europe

***= Title challenging

I don’t like using the term world class, and thus have left it out for a reason. For me it means a player that would make it into a world first 11, and I’m not sure any of the English players are capable of getting there. The three that have the best chance for me are Wilshere, Phil Jones, and Jack Rodwell (on FM at least)

N.B, once again, these ratings are just subjective. Your player may turn out better or worse than these predicted ratings – a particular example in two of my different saves would be Kieran Gibbs, I signed him on one, and he is now a Champions League winning left back. The AI kept him on another, and he is still a premier league reserve player not getting any first team football. You may feel that some of these players look abysmal and some deserve better ratings than others, please bear in mind I have taken age into account, and I’m judging on potential ability and not current ability: eg Blackburn – Thomas Hitchcock is only 17, whilst Nick Blackman is 20. Whilst Blackman is miles better right now, but Hitchcock has 3 years to catch him up, so I rate them both the same. It should also go without saying that the one * rated players can become stars, but they will need the most attention (first team action straight away, individual training, customised training, tutoring etc), whereas the *** rated players will normally make it anyway/ are almost there already (Jack Wilshere being the best example).

To sound even more objective, if a player doesn’t look like they’re going to make it by the time they’re 23, ditch them.

For info on getting these players to reach their best potential, I recommend:

Just noticed you left out Adam Johnson for Man City. Hes a quality player IMO.

Good list this, I am currently Birmingham trying to get as close to the top as possible using English players only!

Foster
Naughton Cahill Dann Mattock
Muamba Cairney Ramsey
Jennings Jerome Wickham

Doing well at the moment, 6th in league for 3rd season on the run :)

It is him. Very useful little player.

Any of these players are quality right backs?

Taken the England job and Glen Johnson is nearly in the 30s, gonna need to start looking for replacements soon. Left back would be handy too as Cole/Baines are no youngsters themselves.

I'd recommend Bertrand/ Gibbs for the left, Kyle Walker/ Kyle Naughton for the right. Phil Jones is that class he can become a 7++ rated right back too.

Hogan Ephraim (I think that's how it's spelt) from QPR? Though he might be 22...not sure

Great list. What about Jack Butland from Birmingham? Regularly gets good reports in my saves. Signed him a few times but never played long enough to see how he turns out.
