New Villa Boss David Beckham reveals an all British and Irish player project!

Wednesday, July 1, 2009:

In what was already a shock appointment, new Aston Villa boss David Beckham revealed some more shocking news at his opening press conferance at Aston Villa. David Beckam revealed that there is now a British/Irish transfer policy at the club, running as a 4 year project. This means that all NON British/Irish players at the club will be put up for sale and any new signings will only be British or Irish. So big names such as John Carew, Stiliyan Petrov and Carlos Cuellar will be leaving the club in this transfer window. So where does this leave Aston Villa, who will they look to bring in and will this new plan come good for the club.

We already knew that new Aston Villa boss David Beckham had put all foreign players up for sale and he has kept his word with 19 players leaving the club in this transfer window. Suprisingly to some he has also sold some of the clubs first team English players who he thought were surplus to requirements at the club, including ex captain Nigel Reo-Coker and Steve Sidwell. Some believe moving the two named players above was the right move especially as they were sold for a combined fee of 16M, moving to Wigan and Malaga respectively. The big foreign stars to leave Villa Park were also thought to be good deals as Stiliyan Petrov moved to Chelsea for 9M, John Carew moving to Malage for 9.75M and finally Carlos Cuellar making his big move to Juventus for a fee of 13.75M! Pre Season Review

View attachment 90869

July 2009
:

With such a busy time at the club we almost forgot that we actually had some games to play. WIth two games planned against English Teams and a tour of Scotland planned there was a lot to prepare for. The fist game was an inter friendly match against the Villa reserves followed by an away tie at Sheffield United, both matches were tough games but Aston Villa were able to overcome both opponents with a 2-0 victory for both scorelines. Noticeably Gabby Agbonlahor took most of the headlines putting 3 of the 4 goals away that were scored in these matches. See match reports below.

View attachment 90869View attachment 90881

Aston Villa 2-0 Aston Villa Reserves. GOALS - Gabby Agbonlahor, Ashley Young.

Sheffield United 0-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Gabby Agbonlahor(2).

Scotland Tour

View attachment 90871

Aston Villa arrive in Scotland with an unbeaten record in pre season so far, with 4 matches to look forward to in a short space of time there was a chance for the whole squad to show what they can do and claim their place in David Beckham's first 11. Matches against St. Mirren, Inverness CT, Hibernian and Hearts there was plenty for this new Villa squad to get stuck into. Please see match details below.

View attachment 90877View attachment 90878View attachment 90879View attachment 90880

St. Mirren 1-4 Aston Villa. GOALS - Graeme Ramage, Curtis Davies(2), Gabby Agbonlahor(2).

Inverness CT 1-3 Aston Villa. Goals - Adam Rooney, Carlton Cole, Emile Heskey, Ashley Young.

Hibernian 0-2 Aston Villa. Goals - Carlton Cole, Gabby Agbonlahor.

Hearts 0-3 Aston Villa. Goals - Gabby Agbonlahor(2), Stephen Warnock.

A great tour for the squad and an emphatic way to end pre season tour with a good 3-0 win over Hearts, a 100% record to take into the start of the season. New manager David Beckham couldnt of wished for a better start, can this form be taken into their first competative match againt Elfsborg in the Europa League.

Villa hit by new signing Injury

View attachment 90901

Reports have come out of Villa Park and it has been confirmed early this afternoon that Scott Parker will be out of action for between 2-3 months with a torn hamstring. This is a bitter blow to the start of David Beckham's campaign, who kick off the season in a matter of days away at newly promoted Blackpool. Its expected that either Jermaine Jenas of Miles Addison will step into Parkers boots and if they impress could potentially keep Parker out of the first 11.

August 2009 review!

View attachment 90918View attachment 90929

The time has come and after a long hard summer and an array of cahnges at Villa Park its time to put all this to the pitch, where it matters, results are KING. Aston Villa only have two Premier League fixtures in August as they have commitments in the UEFA Europa League 4th Rnd Qual with two matches home and away against P. Ferreira a mid table Portugese team. They kick off the Premier League season with a away fixture at Blackpool followed by a home fixture against the highly rate Tottenham team at the end of the month. Please see full match reports below.

View attachment 90926View attachment 90927View attachment 90928

Blackpool 1-7 Aston Villa. GOALS - David Vaughan, Ashley Young(3), Carlton Cole(3), Gabby Agbonlahor.

P. Ferreira 0-6 Aston Villa. GOALS - James Milner, Carlton Cole, Gabby Agbonlahor(2), Richard Dunne, Ashley Young.

Aston Villa
2-0 P. Ferreira. GOALS - Jack Wilshire, Emile Heskey.

Aston Villa
1-2 Tottenham. GOALS - Curtis Davies, Luka Modric, Aaron Lennon.

What a fantastc start to the season for Villa, with a 7-1 thrashing of Blackpool with two hat tricks from Ashley Young and new signing Carlton Cole. Followed up with a very convincing 8-0 agg win over portugese side P. Ferreira in the Europa League. However this was soon halted by a very impressive and determined Spurs team, who put the end to the August party taking a 2-1 win at Villa Park. Despite the loss Villa fans are still in good voice and expect a lot from this season.
