UEFA Europa League Group Stage Drawn

View attachment 90955

In what was an important day for everyone at the club, Aston Villa were hoping that the draw would be kind to them. Looking to avoid the so called BIG teams such as, At. Madrid, Villarreal, Porto and Juventus. Please see the draw below.

Villa fans will be switching into Sky Sports today knowing that they face what looks like the toughest group in the whole competition, with Juventus and Galatasaray also both wanting and expecting to qualify. Beckham's team have a few tough games ahead of them but there is no fear at Villa Park. An interesting point to flag up is the return of Carlos Cuellar who was sold in the summer for 13.75M to Juventus.

Who to watch out for in the group

Beckham slams Capello as Agbonlahor doesnt make the 26 man England Squad

View attachment 91012

At a press conferance regarding David Beckham's plans for the future of Aston Villa, one journalist posed the question about the current England squad after their dissapointing 1-0 friendly loss at home to Slovenia followed by a lowly draw to Croatia which ended 2-2 in the Euro Qualifier match. He was outraged that Gabby Agbonlahor had not even been considered following his good form with 6 goals in 5 games, then going onto say that to play Carlton Cole on the left side of midfield was an absolute JOKE. Beckham ended the press conference by saying "if that is how Capello decides to play then England fans should be prepared to miss out on another major tourament".

September 2009 review!

View attachment 91062View attachment 91063View attachment 91069

With a fairly impressive August, there was plenty still to prove this month as new boss David Beckham looks to establish himself and Aston Villa with his all Britsi/Irish squad. With 5 fixtures to look forward to covering 3 different competitions the Premier League, Europa League and the Carling Cup. The two interesting ties for the fans to look forward to along with thier most challenging fixtures are a trip to Turin in the Europa League to play Juventus in the opening game in Group C and a home fixture against English Premier League Champions Chelsea.

View attachment 91064View attachment 91065View attachment 91066View attachment 91067View attachment 91068

Aston Villa 3-1 Stoke. GOALS - Gabby Agbonlahor(3), James Beattie.

Aston Villa 2-0 Wigan. GOALS - Carlton Cole, Gabby Agbonlahor.

Juventus 4-3 Aston Villa. GOALS - Amauri(2), Vincenzo Iaquinta, Alessandro Del Piero, Stewart Downing, Jack Wilshire, Carlton Cole.

Carlisle 0-3 Aston Villa. GOALS - Nathan Delfouneso, Miles Addison, Fabian Delph.

Aston Villa
2-0 Chelsea. GOALS - Gabby Agbonlahor, Carlton Cole.

What a month for Villa fans, with 18 goals to been seen in 5 games what more could the fans want. With one hicup along the way which they were expected to loose against Juventus in which Villa fans can be proud of their teams performance in a game that really could of gone either way. The highlight of the month has to be the clubs 2-0 win at home over League Champions Chelsea, with the lethal pair of Agbonlahor and Cole bagging the all important goals. There has'nt been this sort of atmosphere around Villa Park for a very long time, David Beckham's start in management could'nt of got off to a better start.

In what was one of the biggest days at the club for Burnley FC with hero Martin Paterson, Turf Moor erupted when his last minute goal in extra time took them into the next round and knocked out the Cup holders. Recently relegated Burnley never stoped working in a thrilling 4-3 encounter, can Burnley go all the way after such a fine performance, Burnley manager Brian Laws believes anything is possible. European Journey!

10 men Galatasaray beat Villa in an epic battle

View attachment 91202

View attachment 91205View attachment 91204

Villa fans new that the Eupopa League was always going to be a tough competition but being drwn in the group of death made this and even tougher challenge. Having lost in their first game away to Italian giants Juventus 4-3, followed by a 4-2 home win over Russian side Saturn all was to play for in Villa's next match away against Galatasaray. Before the match Villa fans were saying that a draw would be a good result, but after Lorik Cana was sent off after 12 minutes Villa fans must of been thinking that they could take all 3 point even though they were goal down at the time. Even though Villa stuck to there all attacking game and managed to draw level on 2 occasions after Adra Turan scored Galatasary's third goal it was a bridge to far for Beckham's men to come back from and it stayed 3-2 on the night. Now Villa's european dreams are haging in the balance at the half way point in the group stage.

October 2009 review!

View attachment 91319View attachment 91320View attachment 91321

This was going to be another telling month for David Beckham's boys as it involved 3 different competitions again, with the biggest game in the calendar in the Europa League away against Galatasaray. We all know that even playing aginst 10 men on the day they still coulnt not overcome a very strong Turkish side. So it was time to focus on events taking place in the league, as Villa looked to carry on their good form into October, with games against Blackburn and Sunderland along with what looked like an easy tie against Reading in the Carling Cup which would then take them into the Quarter Finals.

View attachment 91322View attachment 91271View attachment 91272View attachment 91273View attachment 91274

Aston Villa 4-2 Saturn. GOALS - Carlton Cole(2), Gabby Agbonlahor, James Collins, Marko Topic, Roman Vorobjov.

Blackburn 0-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Ashley Young, Carlton Cole.

Aston Villa 7-1 Sunderland. GOALS - Ashley Young(2), Gabby Agbonlahor(2), Curtis Davies, Carlton Cole, Fabien Delph, Jaime Lozano.

Galatasaray 3-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Servet Cetin, Elano, Arda Turan, Richard Dunne, Carlton Cole. Red Card - Lorik Cana(12)
Reading 2-3 Aston Villa. GOALS - Ivar Ingimarsson, Noel Hunt, Gabby Agbonlahor(2), Nathan Delfouneso.

Well it was definatly a month for seeing goals as we saw26 goals being scored in 5 matches this month, with Gabby Agbonlahor and Carlton Cole scoring 10 of those goals between them. Villa fans will be delighted with Beckham's team emphatically beaing Sunderland 7-1 at Villa Park. However unfortunatly for Villa those celebrations were short lived when they went down to a 10 men Galatasaray team 3-2 away from home, even though they managed to pick up 3 points against Russian team Saturn their European dreams are currently hanging in the balance. Ending on a posotive, Villa got through to the Quarter Finals of the Carling cup with an ok performance at Reaidng winning 3-2 on the day with it has to be said a youthful looking team. Aston Villa fans will know their is a lot of work still to do especially with fixures next month away at Liverpool, Everton and Man City.
