INTRO
Bored of your usual Football Manager game? Want a test to your finely honed managerial skills? Want to compete against other fm-base members without the need for a network game? Then the Challenge of the month could be just what you've been looking for!
Each month we will post a new challenge, exploring all corners of the Football Manager world. Each challenge will be no more than one season long so entering the competition requires no great commitment.
The challenges aren't supposed to be easy and a good understanding of Football Manager 2010 is required. But you can play at your own pace and the number of entries is not restricted, so if at first you don't succeed try again!
Why not take a look at the first challenge below and give it a go!
Read the OP carefully as it will give you instructions on setting the game up together with the rules you must abide by.
El Salvador were the first Central American nation to qualify for the World Cup in 1970 (since Mexico were the hosts) and the first to qualify twice when they returned in 1982.
At the halfway mark in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup El Salvador find themselves in fifth place in the CONCACAF group. The top 3 qualify for the tournament automatically whilst the fourth placed team enter into a play off against South American opponents.
You have just 5 games to get El Salvador into the World Cup finals. Once at South Africa you will be trying to better their previous performances which have seen them fail to progress past the group stage, losing every game they have played.
At the end of this challenge a leader-board will be published on this OP with entrants scoring points thus:
Every win (competitive games only) +3pts
Every draw (competitive games only) +1pts
qualifying for the world cup +10pts
qualifying for each stage at the finals +10pts
Entrants level on points will be seperated by:
Goal difference
Goals scored
Highest world ranking achieved
The challenge ends when El Salvador are knocked out of the World Cup
Don't expect to complete the challenge on your first attempt, remember you can enter as many times as you like (your best score will appear on the leaderboard).
To set up the challenge create a new game from the start screen, you must use patch 10.3.0 with NO edits.
You can select any nations/leagues as playable but you must include England (I reccomend that the USA leagues are included as some Salvadoran players are based there).
The game's start date must be England (July 2009), then select a custom database of any size but ensure you add all players of nationality Salvardoran.
The boxes marked "use real players", "add key staff" and "enable player attribute masking" must be ticked.
Next go to preferences and disable the autosave feature, now you can "Start Game"
Once the game has loaded add yourself as manager (you can use any past experience you like) and select to manage the nation of El Salvador. The game date should be the early July 2009 and your next game should be a friendly against Colombia.
You must read the following rules carefully as your entry may be disqualified if you break them.
1) your game must be setup as per the instructions on this opening post.
2) you cannot manage any other nations/clubs and must refuse any jobs offered to you during the challenge.
3) you cannot holiday during any part of the challenge.
4) you can only save your game 3 times during the challenge, once at the start, once during and once at the end (so make sure you have disabled the autosave feature!)
5) on completing the challenge you must post the following screenshots to register your entry and be placed on the leader-board:
Manager profile
Manager history - achievements
Fixtures/results for 2009/10 and 2010/11
World ranking in graph form
Game status
6) you must provide any other screenshots or details requested by the thread originator, his decision is final!
7) the closing date for entries is 31st May 2010
GOOD LUCK!
