NOVEMBER

Monday, 2nd: Sheffield United 0 : 2 Newcastle UnitedEbi Smolarek (53, 57)

The game in hand in which we really need to win to open the gap at the top of the league. Absolutely nothing happened in the first half (literally, the clock didn’t stop once!). So at half-time, I changed the strategy to attacking instead of defensive, and 53 minutes, lone striker Ebi Smolarek scores the first goal of the game, and 4 minutes later, he makes it 2 with a powerful header. I feel we deserved the win after being very much on top in the second half. A great win for us, and there is now 4 points between us and Bristol City and Watford at 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Average rating: 7.26
Man of the Match: Ebi Smolarek (Newcastle), 8.5

Newcastle maintain unbeaten record
Newcastle United have extended their unbeaten record in the Coca-Cola Championship to eleven games following their 2-0 result against Sheffield United.

This fantastic start to the season has seen the Magpies rise quickly to the top of the table.

Fans of the club will be hoping that the team can maintain their fine form to reaffirm their status as title favourites.

Saturday, 7th: Newcastle United 3 : 1 Peterborough UnitedPeter Lovenkrands (33), Ebi Smolarek (45, 90+3) : Craig Mickail-Smith (6 (six))

1st vs 5th, I always knew this was going to be a toughie, although I was odds-on to win comfortably. Craig Mackail-Smith put Peterborough one-up after just 5 minutes. Peter Lovenkrands managed to equalise before the break, and Smolarek put us into the lead just before half time. ‘Don’t get careless!” were my words during the team talk. Nothing really happened, except Jose Enrique got injured and Smolarek got his second from the spot right at the end. A decent performance and a great result.

Average rating: 7.28
Man of the Match: Ebi Smolarek (Newcastle), 8.2

Consortium targets Newcastle takeover
Newcastle United will name Alan Shearer as their new manager – if the consortium’s bid to take control led by businessman Dobrivoje Tanasijevic proves successful.

Consortium leader Tanasijevic hinted at the appointment to The Observer.

Directors enforce transfer embargo
The Newcastle board have placed an embargo upon transfers as a result of the rumours regarding a possible takeover.

These restrictions will remain in place until the outcome of any takeover has been resolved.

Monday, 23rd: Preston North End 2 : 3 Newcastle United – Neill Collins (49), Joe Parkin (90) : Alan Smith (39, 67), Peter Lovenkrands (85)

An easy win predicted for us as Preston are sitting in 16th place. We started bright with plenty of shots before Alan Smith finally put us in the lead. A stupid tackle by Jose Enrique gifted Preston a great opportunity to get one back and they did so through Neill Collins. Nearly 20 minutes later, Alan Smith got his and Newcastle’s second of the day. No more than 6 minutes from the end, substitute Peter Lovenkrands secured the victory with a sublime finish, although Joe Parkin got a late consolation.

Average rating: 7.14
Man of the Match: Alan Smith (Newcastle), 8.7

Saturday, 28th: Newcastle United 1 : 2 Swansea CityEbi Smolarek (78) : Ferrie Bodde (5), Cedric van der Gun (28)

With Swansea sitting in 3rd, this was always going to be a hard game. After 5 minutes, Ferrie Bodde put the away side in the lead. 20 minutes later, Cedric van der Gun put Swansea comfortably two-up at half-time. With Newcastle got it all to do, I tell them to go all-out attack in the second 45. Ebi Smolarek scored after 73 minutes. I got very excited in the 93rd minute when Smolarek scored again, but it was disallowed because of a push on Alan Tate. Disappointing result in the end, but I expected Swansea to come out on top.

Average rating: 6.64
Man of the Match: Cedric van der Gun (Swansea), 8.0

Newcastle takeover hits rocks
Newcastle United are thought to be close to pulling the plug on a consortium’s proposed takeover of the club, claiming they had not yet seen evidence that the group possessed enough finance.

According to BBC Newcastle, the leader of the group, Dobrivoje Tanasijevic, had not not revealed that they possessed sufficient funds to complete a takeover.

Newcastle to play West Ham in Third Round
Newcastle United will play West Ham United in the English FA Cup Third Round.

The game will be played at St. James’ Park on Saturday 2nd January 2010.

West Ham last won the competition in 1980.

Glad to be top of the league again, after a somewhat frustrating month.

unlucky on that failed takeover mate, along with that swansea result. hope we get a nice owner soon in your game and in real life as well :D

DECEMBER

Newcastle takeover talks continue
Reports are coming in that there has been a breakthrough in the Newcastle United takeover talks.

According to The Guardian, discussions between Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley and the head of the takeover bid, Dobrivoje Tanasijevic, are going well and there could be an announcement in the next few days.

It will certainly be welcome news for those who had previously feared the takeover to be on the verge of collapse.

Saturday, 5th: Newcastle United 3 : 2 WatfordEbi Smolarek (3), Shola Ameobi (39, 45+2) : Nathan Ellington (13), Craig Cathcart (86)

A nice test for us at the beginning of December. With Watford being only 4 points and one position behind me in the league, this was an opportunity to surge ahead of them – only if I played my cards right. Within 3 minutes of the start of the match, super striker Ebi Smolarek added another to his goal tally to gift us a wonderful lead, but 10 minutes later, Watford equalised. An incisive breakaway sees Shola Ameobi continue a great run of form with another goal. 2 minutes into injury time, Ameobi scores again. After picking up a slight knock, Smolarek would only feature for 10 minutes in the second 45. 5 minutes before the end, Watford score a perfectly decent goal from a corner. Good first half, poor second. Just glad to get the win I guess.

Average rating: 7.03
Man of the Match: Shola Ameobi (Newcastle), 8.4

Tuesday, 8th: Coventry City 1 : 3 Newcastle United – Freddy Eastwood (65) : Tamas Kadar (24), Fabricio Coloccini (33), Ebi Smolarek (64)

With Coventry down at 21st place, there is no excuse for not winning. Although we’re away, I will be disappointed with anything less than a win. Tamas Kadar managed to score an excellent header mid-way through the first half, and ten minutes later Fabricio Coloccini scored a replica of that earlier on. Ebi Smolarek continues to impress as he scores another to make it 3-0, but from the kick-off, Freddy Eastwood scores. A great scoring game for us today, but we still have that problem of conceding goals, and there is now 9 points between us and second-placed Derby County.

Average rating: 7.28
Man of the Match: Tamas Kadar (Newcastle), 8.1

Saturday, 12th: Barnsley 1 : 1 Newcastle United – Dabiel Bogdanovic (38) : Ebi Smolarek (28) Alan Smith sent off (84)

This may be a tough game as Barnsley are doing well at home, and we’re still needlessly conceding goals. Decent start, and Smolarek scores to go one-up. Main threat Bogdanovic helps himself to a goal. Captain Alan Smith deservedly got himself sent-off late on. Boring 1-1 draw, but we’ll take the point.

Average rating: 6.88
Man of the Match: Kevin Nolan (Newcastle), 7.5

Consortium pulls plug
A consortium of businessmen have pulled out of a potential takeover of Newcastle United, claiming a lack of funds to secure the deal.

According to BBC Newcastle, the leader of the consortium Dobrivoje Tanasijevic had decided to withdraw his financial backing for the takeover.

With the talks having been close to breakdown in recent days, the collapse of the takeover will not really have come to any great surprise.

And after a quick ‘thank you for being patient’ from Mike Ashley:

Directors lift transfer embargo
The Newcastle board are pleased to announce that the club is once more in a position to operate in the transfer market.

The embargo had been imposed until speculation regarding the recent takeover had been resolved.

Newcastle player named in Team of the Week
Tamas Kadar was selected in the Coca-Cola Championship Team of the Week first eleven.

Saturday, 19th: Newcastle United 2 : 0 MiddlesbroughJonas (41), Danny Guthrie (46)

Ah, a nice rival game to settle the nerves :P The only thing that was worth mentioning was Jonas’ goal to separate the teams at the break. Guthrie’s 4th start of the season gets us the second and puts us into a comfortable lead. A great result over rivals Middlesbrough, and a great way to keep promotion hopes high.

Average rating: 7.23
Man of the Match: Danny Guthrie (Newcastle), 7.8

Saturday, 26th: Sheffield Wednesday 0 : 1 Newcastle UnitedJose Enrique (47)

I’ve purposely put out a weakened team against Wednesday, as they are occupating 23rd place in the league and I have Derby (2nd) in two days time! The only talking point in a boring first half was a sending off to Sheffield’s Mark Beevers. Straight after the restart, on-form Jose Enrique puts us one-up in what looks to be a promising half. Well, I got that one wrong... One-nil it ended to us, along with Ameobi getting injured.

Average rating: 7.15
Man of the Match: Jose Enrique (Newcastle), 8.0

Saturday, 28th: Newcastle United 1 : 1 Derby CountySteven Taylor (8) : Rob Hulse (82)

A very, very important and significant match against the Rams: a must win! The game kicks off, and we get the opener! Steven Taylor with an excellent half-volley on 8 minutes. We pressed and pressed ever since then, but Derby got an equaliser on 82 minutes through Rob Hulse. I suppose it was an even game at the end, but we were lucky that Hulse hit the bar on 94 minutes! 1-1 draw, can’t say I’m too disappointed.

And a very pleasing end-of-2009 league table, sitting comfortably on top by 7 points:

Thanks for following thus far people! Glad you've all been patient ;) Still, I'll be starting the new year as soon as possible, so keep checking back for updates!

This is great your doing really well and a good result against Boro.

Yeah I know, I really surprised myself because I'm conceding too many against the 'lower' teams such as Watford and Cardiff when really I should be stuffing them. Just happy to be top of the league at the moment :D

You are not alone, that seems to be a problem with Newcastle. It even says in the backroom advice that we are too complacent against the smaller teams.

Yep, quite right. And struggle against teams that play 4-5-1 formation lol **** it (6), it's working for me!

---------- Post added at 11:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 PM ----------

I have very bad news - I'm unable to continue this story as my laptop's mouse has decided not to work, so I'm going by everything using the keyboard's keys, which restricts me from playing FM10. Please be patient while I sort this problem out.

Cheers everybody!

Bad luck about the mouse, was really enjoying the story. Quite funny that the QPR and Posh results were the same as real life, I was actually at St James' for the QPR game too! :D

Really good going so far man, top by 7 points is a really good position, made even more impressive by the competitive nature of the Championship. Magpies for promotion!

dont quit i do expect you to get back to this, someone made fun of your excuse in a thread earlier, didnt realise it was you, if you dont get back to it though then they will be right and we dont want that lol

This is great, Newcastle are tougher to win with than people think...

Its not that tough, won automatic promotion with 5games left won the league with 3 and have just come 8th in the prem. only spent ten million on 7 players. the sum was on 3 of the players.

the hardest thing to do is trying to get rid of joey barton. how is he on 75k?

My mouse is still broken, so going to send my laptop away to get it fixed! :( No FM for around a week. Please don't get put off by this, I intend to complete at least two seasons, so keep checking back for updates!

Im into my 3rd season with Newcastle.
1st Season = 2nd in Championship
2nd Season = 8th in Prem

Definately agree that worst part is trying to get rid of some of the players eg. Barton. Newcastle are over paying so many players!!!

I have good news, and I have bad news:

The good news is I'm able to buy a mouse soon.
The bad news is that it's next Wednesday.

I'd have completed the season if I hadn't got rid of my ****** computer a few months back! I really can't wait til Wednesday, feels like I haven't played FM for years!

Thanks for staying patient guys - will be back very soon (H)

Smolarek is quality, and best thing is, if he is poor, you could make at least 2.5m on him by selling!

---------- Post added at 10:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:41 PM ----------

Fabrice Pancate has been signing of the season thus far for me, 14 in 8, dynamite against Championship defences. Also, Sapara is awesome aswell, got him for 1.3m. Did you get a takeover yet??

Nope, takeover failed :D I will look at the two players soon as I get a mouse LOL Who does Pancate play for? Don't think I've heard of him...
