MARCH
With only 2 months to go and in a great position at the top of the league, I am fairly confident of lifting the title during May, or if results go my way and a fair few excellent performances, hopefully by the end of next month.
Newcastle player named in Team of the Week
Ryan Taylor was selected for the Coca-Cola Championship Team of the Week first eleven.
Jonas was named Player of the Month, Tamas Kadar third in Young Player of the Month and I came second for Manager of the Month.
Newcastle chairman looking to step aside
The chairman of league leaders Newcastle United, Mike Ashley, could step down sooner rather than later, according to BBC Newcastle.
It is rumoured that Ashley is looking to relinquish control of the club, allowing another member of the board to take his place.
Saturday, 6th: Newcastle United 2 : 0 Barnsley –
Alan Smith (1), Steve Foster O.G. (25)
Barnsley, who are at 20th currently, are going to play against my asymmetric tactic. And it’s seemed to work as 34 seconds in Alan Smith gets a goal. Half way through the first half, Foster scores an own goal to put us two-nil up. A bit of a poor second half, but a win’s a win, but Bristol City and Swansea both won to keep up the chase, and Derby play Watford on Wednesday.
Average rating: 6.97
Man of the Match: Alan Smith (Newcastle), 7.6

A consortium has once again planned a Newcastle United takeover, but this time it’s a former footballer who has no intention of bringing in a new manager in place of me.
Saturday, 13th: Middlesbrough 2 : 2 Newcastle United - Carlton Cole (17, 36) :
Kevin Nolan (34), Shola Ameobi (61)
Going into this match, Derby had won and Bristol had lost, which is good news, so I need a win against arch-rivals Boro in order to extend the lead at the top. Again, I’m sticking to the “4-5-1” asymmetric plan which has seemed to be working instantly. Carlton Cole gets Middlesbrough off to a good start on 17 minutes with a volley from a corner. Kevin Nolan strikes for the equaliser 10 minutes before half time, but Cole scores again straight away. By the hour mark, Shola Ameobi scores to take his rating up from 5.9 to 7.2; it’s now 2-2, and this is how it ended. A pleasing result, especially after falling behind twice.
Average rating: 7.02
Man of the Match: Carlton Cole (Middlesbrough), 8.4

With only ten games to go, I am 13 points clear at the top, and I can still finish half way down the table at 12th
Wednesday, 17th: Newcastle United 3 : 0 Scunthorpe United –
Peter Lovenkrands (32, 68), Kevin Nolan (70)
This was a must-win as Scunthorpe are at 21st and I’m resting a few top players as Bristol City away is in 3 days’ time. Peter Lovenkrands had a goal disallowed early on, but struck again later to secure the half time lead. Encouragement is given, and it seemed to have worked on 68 minutes as Lovenkrands strikes again, but has to go off injured (again), and Nolan secures the win with a great goal 2 minutes later. A good result plus a clean sheet, and the win guarantees at least a play-off place.
Average rating: 7.27
Man of the Match: Peter Lovenkrands (Newcastle), 8.4

Saturday, 20th: Bristol City 1 : 1 Newcastle United – Evander Sno (31) :
Steven Taylor (23)
This match is going to be one big test for us, especially as it is away. Steven Taylor gets the score going with a tremendous header from a floating corner. This doesn’t last long, however, as Evander Sno equalises 8 minutes later. At half time it’s 1-1, and I tell the lads that they can win this game. An injury to Nolan gives me the opportunity to stick on a striker for the last 10 minutes, but nothing really happened for the rest of the match. A draw’s a fair result in the end.
Average rating: 6.86
Man of the Match: Steven Taylor (Newcastle), 7.9

Bad news is Kevin Nolan sprained an ankle, and will be out for 3 weeks. Good news is that Derby lost and Swansea lost, and Boro won which sees them rise to 3rd. Only 8 games remain...

Saturday, 27th: Newcastle United 2 : 1 Nottingham Forest –
Paul Smith O.G. (5), Jonas (45+1) Alan Smith sent off (39) : Franco di Santo (81)
“Easy win predicted for Newcastle” – I hope it is! Lol I’ve reverted back to 4-4-2 for this match. Early on, a counter attack leads up to an own goal from Paul Smith. 5 minutes before half time sees Alan Smith get sent off for ‘constantly protesting fouls’. Oh dear... A good run of play sees Jonas poke in a second for us. 10 minutes from time, on-loan Franco di Santo scores a good goal after a good run to score what seemed to be a consolation goal.
Average rating: 7.00
Man of the Match: Jonas (Newcastle), 7.7

Wednesday, 31st: Doncaster Rovers 0 : 0 Newcastle United
Donny are currently bottom of the pack, and anything less than a win will be so embarrassing, so I’m going all-out attack, though it might be a risk. Ameobi sees an early shot hit the bar, and all Doncaster seem to be doing is kicking my players off the park! We go into the break with an 8-2 shot lead, with two on target to Donny’s one. I bring on Smolarek for the last 15 mins in place of **** to see if anything good happens. A frustrating afternoon for us, especially seeing as we managed 4 on target. Poor display.

Despite a couple of poor results this month, I’m happy that Derby, Bristol and Swansea failed to win when I did, so here’s how the league table looks at the end of the month:
