Millwall v Tranmere

« Harris (8.8)
3rd
The game was barely 5 minutes old when Neil Harris scored the first goal, Ian Goodison sent Harris' cross straight back to the striker and he hammered the ball past Luke Daniels in the Tranmere goal. Tranmere pressed for an equaliser but it was the home side who scored a second after 22 minutes, Millwall passed the ball around the Tranmere edge of the Tranmere area before midfielder Anton Jongsma played a perfectly weighted ball into the box allowing Neil Harris to score from close range.
With Millwall looking increasingly comfortable it came as a surprise when Tranmere pulled a goal back on 35 minutes. The Millwall players were slow to close down the experienced Alan Mahon and he used the time and space to play the perfect ball over the top for winger Charlie Barnett. The Millwall defence felt Barnett was offside but television replays showed the player had timed his run perfectly.
The second half was an open affair, with plenty of chances at both ends, and when a goal came in the 79th minute it was the home side who restored their two goal lead. In a break away move David Martin got clear on the left wing and crossed for Steve Morison, unmarked in the area, who drove the ball low and hard past Daniels. With the game drawing to a close Tranmere refused to lie down and were rewarded for their efforts in injury time. Goalkeeper Daniels punted the ball forward and Millwall's central defender Paul Robinson was caught ball watching. Paul McLaren stole in and raced into the Millwall area before scoring with a well placed shot.

% Johnstone's Paint Trophy 2nd round
It is obvious that the Johnstone's Paint Trophy doesn't sit very high on Millwall manager Dan Lake's list of priorities, he made changes to his starting line up for this game against fellow League One team Swindon Town. And Swindon took full advantage opening the scoring in the 12th minute as Alan Sheehan beat a Lions' back line that did included regular starters Darren Ward and Paul Robinson. Millwall did manage to get an equaliser four minutes later as Paul Robinson deflected Danny Schofield's shot past the Swindon 'keeper.
Swindon were the better of the two teams and further goals from Sheehan and Gordon Greer in the 45th and 53rd minutes respectively, saw them leave South London as comfortable winners.

With the rains coming down hard and heavy the Edgeley Park pitch was more suited to water polo than a football match, but it did nothing to dampen the spirit of the Millwall players. Recently the Millwall manager has preferred the experienced Neil Harris to loanee striker Zavon Hines up front, but today Hines started and he celebrated with a brace. The first came on 37 minutes, a long kick by Millwall 'keeper David Forde was nodded on by Steve Morison and Hines rounded the keeper before tapping it home. Three minutes later Hines got his second beating the Stockport offside trap and powering past Owain fon Williams.
As the rain continued to pour down in the second half Stockport got off the mark when captain Johhny Mullins headed home from a fine David Perkins cross. Neil Harris came on for the injured Hines and got on the scoresheet in the 77th minute. Harris then turned provider on 80 minutes as Nadjim Abdou bundled home his drilled cross and sent the travelling fans into raptures.

Only two weeks ago Swindon knocked Millwall out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and today the Lions had a chance to exact some revenge in the League. This was an open game with the action moving from end to end, but neither team had their shooting boots on and profited little from the 29 shots made. Millwall registered the first goal on 24 minutes, Adam Bolder played an inch perfect through ball for Anton Jongsma and he made no mistake with his first time shot. Swindon's Billy Paynter out muscled Paul Robinson for the equaliser with ten minutes of the match left. A draw seemed on the cards until Steve Morison received the ball with his back to goal in the 89th minute, he turned his marker and unleashed a piledriver from 25 yards that sailed over the goalkeeper. With that late winner Millwall moved above Leyton Orient into second place of the Coca-Cola League One.

A top of the table clash that would see the winners take first place in League One, heading into the game Leeds were ahead of Millwall seperated by just two points. The match was a tight affair with both sides were giving little away, but Millwall came closest to taking all the points as substitute Lewis Grabban poked the ball home in the last minute of the game only to see the goal ruled out for offside. The decision was close but most would have to agree that the Linesman got it right on this occassion.

Dunno mate, I've tried to keep them short, make them a bit individual by adding a few effects and some music but nothing too fantastic.

My advice mate - do a story for you. because you enjoy it and want to keep it going - don't do it for the ratings, the views, or the comments! ;)

Well I was doing an Oldham story.I really enjoyed it.I bought Joe Mattock for £18 000 000(24 months),but after I installed 10.3 patch I saw that I wasn't paying West Brom the money I owe for Mattock wich just isn't fair.

Looking forward to the next update:)

Second placed Millwall dominated today's match at the New Den against fellow promotion hopefuls Colchester United. After 14 minutes of play Nadjim Abdou looked up and played a thirty yard ball forward to Neil Harris on the edge of Colchester's 18 yard box. With his back to goal Millwall's top scorer turned his marker and closed in on goal, scoring with a well placed shot past the diving goalkeeper. In the final minutes of the first half Harris recieved the ball out on the right wing, he cut inside but found his path was blocked by John White. Harris played the ball back to Liam Trotter and the midfielder had spotted Steve Morison's run into the box, playing a perfectly weighted ball for him to break free from his marker and score from a tight angle.
Colchester faired little better in the second half of the game, but did manage to prevent a rampant Millwall side from scoring again.

Millwall started their FA Cup journey at home against League Two opposition, but high flying Rochdale weren't in the competition just to make up the numbers. The match itself wasn't one for the purists with much of the play caught up in a ferocious midfield battle. There were few clear goal scoring opportunities for either side and the game was settled by a single goal from Millwall's Liam Trotter who headed home from David Martin's corner in the 32 minute.

At kick-off Millwall sat second in the League One table, level on points with Leeds but behind on goal difference, but would finish this match in top spot. Visitors Wycombe fought hard but the Lions proved too good for them and won the game comfortably courtsey of goals from Neil Harris (2) and Steve Morison. Harris' opening goal in the 22nd minute was one to remember, as he curled the ball around the Wycombe defence and goalkeeper from 20 yards out. 10 minutes later Harris got a second as he got ahead of Wycombe defenders Leon Johnson and Craig Woodman to bundle the ball into the net from David Martin's pin-point cross. The Lions completed the scoring in the 87th minute as substitute Ali Fuseini's pass found Steve Morison in the Wycombe area and he beat Oscar Jansson at his near post.

The first of two visits to St James Park in a week for Millwall, this League One game was to be followed by an FA cup tie just four days later.
This season Millwall winger David Martin and veteran striker Neil Harris have proved to be a handful for most League One defences and they combined again today to lethal effect as Harris got on the scoresheet after 35 minutes. With just minutes left on the clock Bertrand Cozic's wayward pass was picked up by Millwall substitute Lewis Grabban. Grabban ran fully 60 yards before crossing low and hard into the area, the Exeter defenders failed to deal with the ball and Lions midfielder Adam Bolder ran in to slam it home from close range.

Millwall returned to St James Park just four days after beating Exeter 2-0 here in a League One clash, but the Grecians were determined that it wouldn't be a case of Deja Vu.
Millwall enjoyed the greater possession and were the more impressive side for much of this FA cup tie, but the 2004 runners up failed to turn this advantage into goals. When Stuart Fleetwood scored against the run of play in the 76th minute, you still felt that Millwall would find their way back into the game, but it wasn't to be and Lions fans will have to put aside hopes of a cup run until next year. That said Fleetwood's goal was one worthy of winning any game, the Millwall defence cleared the ball from a corner and Fleetwood picked it up near the halfway line. The midfielder then dribbled past three Millwall defenders before driving the ball low past David Forde.

Millwall v MK Dons

Millwall head toward the end of the year in great form, they have surprised most neutrals by climbing to the top of League One playing some attractive attacking football. Milton Keynes Dons on the otherhand have had a season to forget so far, but could they overturn the odds at the New Den?
The two sides spent much of the match cancelling each other out and, despite their differing fortunes in the League before today, there was little to seperate them. Millwall were the first to strike when winger David Martin made a mazy run, dribbling from just inside the MK Dons half before releasing Steve Morison with a perfectly timed pass. Despite being closed down by two defenders Morison showed great composure to finish neatly past the Don's Polish 'keeper Boguslaw Wyparlo.
The MK Don's equalised in the 39th minute and looked good value for their goal too, fullback Marc Bernaus played in a terrific cross from deep and Millwall's Tony Craig faile dto pick up the run of Stephen Gleeson leaving him with an easy tap in.
The game looked set to end in a draw until Paul Robinson rose high above the Don's defence to power a header home from David Martin's corner.

Boxing's world heavy weight champion and Millwall fan David Haye was watching from the stands today as his team outpunched Hartlepool United. David Martin scored Millwall's first goal on 23 minutes, pouncing on a mistake by defender Neil Austin. Austin tried to pass the ball back to his goalkeeper but his effort was weak and pacey winger Martin got there before Scott Flinders, giving the keeper no chance to stop his shot. In the 34th minute loanee Zavon Hines added a second Millwall goal as he turned Pools centreback Ben Clark inside out before scoring with a fine finish off the post.
Hines proved to be a handful all afternoon and the Hartlepool defence could not cope with his pace and skill. Hines' second, and Millwall's third, goal came in the 51st minute as he ran unchecked onto an Adam Bolder through ball, thumping the ball past the 'keeper and into the net. After 66 minutes Pools midfielder Ritchie Humphries saw red for a leg breaking tackle on Adam Bolder, truth be told it had little effect on the game as Millwall were already playing at a canter by this time.

Millwall secured another win today, their seventh consecutive win in the league, with a fine display of attacking football against Brentford. Midfielder Liam Trotter, on loan from Ipswich town, opened the scoring after just seven minutes as he played a neat one-two with Anton Jongsma and rifled a shot Wyciech Szczensy in the Brentford goal. Millwall's led lasted just three minutes, however, as Bee's favourite Charlie McDonald scored with a sublime strike from 25 yards out. The Lions retook the lead in the 21st minute when Steve Morison's accurate long ball forward found Neil Harris powering beyond the Brentford back line. No keeper could have stopped Harris' bullet strike, his eleventh goal of the season. There were to be no more goals in the match but this wasn't due to a lack of effort on the part of the Millwall players, who pressured the Brentford goal until the final whistle.

Since losing to Southampton on the opening day of the season Millwall have not looked back, unbeaten in 20 games and top of the Coca-Cola League One few would have bet against them picking up all three points against Walsall today.
True to form it was Millwall who opened the scoring, Steve Morison heading home from David Martin's corner in the 41st minute. Walsall's ex-Lions striker Darren Byfield was a constant threat to the Millwall goal and in the 86th minute he got the goal he richly deserved, running in to get his head on the end of Julian Gray's cross.

Millwall's run of 21 league games without loss ended today at Carrow Road to a determined and powerful Norwich side, and with defeat they relinquished top spot to Leeds United.
Grant Holt got the Canaries off to a flyer, beating Millwall's offside trap and scoring past the stranded David Forde after just nine minutes. The Norwich players worked hard to ensure that Millwall couldn't get into their stride and this frustrated teh visitors. When Tony Craig brought down Holt in the area with a tackle from behind the Millwall players could only argue amongst themselves, with Craig and Darren Ward having to be kept apart by team mates. Wes Hoolahan stepped up to convert the spot kick and give Norwich a 2-0 lead. The scoreline became 3-0 in the 83rd minute when the home side were awarded another penalty, this time Ritchie De Laet was adjudged to have been climbed on George Mourad whilst trying to clear a high ball. Mourad dusted himself off to score the resulting penalty and put the game beyond doubt.
Leeds 0-0 draw with Hartlepool was enough to place them first in League One ahead of the Lions on goal difference.

It didn't take Millwall long to regain top spot in League One as they got back to winning ways against a lacklustre Bristol Rovers team. Millwall started the game cautiously but they confidence soon returned when Adam Bolder headed home Nadjim Abdou's corner in the 37th minute. Chris Hackett added a second Millwall goal on 52 minutes as he rounded the goalkeeper after Abdou had played him in with a clever pass that wrong footed the Rovers defence.
With Leeds going down 3-2 away to Stockport the win sent Millwall back into first place, ahead of their rivals in second by three points and Huddersfield in third by ten.

For Millwall the new year began with a game that won’t linger long in the memory, a determined defensive display by Southend ensured that the scoreline remained goal-less despite Millwall’s best efforts. Lion’s substitute Neil Harris came closest to scoring with a shot that stung Steve Mildenhall’s fingers in the 85th minute.

Tied on points with Leeds at the top of League One Millwall could not afford to drop any points at Brunton Park. The first 45 minutes passed with little happening to raise the pulse, neither team could take control of the match and spent much of the half locked in a midfield battle. Millwall broke the deadlock in the 69th minute as a wonderful spell of control was capped by Neil Harris’ headed goal from David Martin’s accurate cross. With the game drawing to a close, Millwall tried to close the game down but on 82 minutes David Gray, on loan from Manchester United, sent over an inviting cross and Adam Clayton rose high above his marker to power his header past David Forde in the Millwall goal. The game ended 1-1 and, with Leeds coasting past Wycombe 4-0, Millwall dropped into second place in the league.

These two teams met on the opening day of the season and played out a 3-2 thriller with the south coast club coming out on top. Both teams have suffered from a drop in form recently and this was evident in the cautious nature of their play. With half-time approaching Southampton defender Rachid Jaidi kicked air in an attempt to clear a David Martin cross, and Neil Harris was on hand to slam home his 12th goal of the season.
With the lead coming when it did, just before the break, and playing in front of their own fans you could be forgiven for expecting the Millwall players to have been more confident in the second half, but they did little to push home the advantage and paid the price on 65 minutes. Rickie Lambert received the ball in the box and left Lions defender Paul Robinson in his wake before curling the ball around a stunned David Forde for Saints equaliser.

Millwall’s recent run of form has been disappointing and has seen them fall behind Leeds in the race for the League One title. The Lion’s have drawn five of their previous seven games and went into tonight’s game against Oldham desperate for a win. With the match just four minutes old Millwall took the lead, Nadjim Abdou timed his run from deep perfectly to receive Zavon Hines lay off and he hit the ball into the roof of the net without breaking his stride.
Oldham’s Deane Smalley got his side back in the game on 22 minutes as he beat his marker to reach Andy Holdsworth’s pass and slide his shot under the advancing David Forde. Millwall, who looked the better side for much of the game, restored their lead in the 51st minute. The industrious Hines played a neat one-two with Gilles Barnes on the edge of the Oldham box before scoring from close range.
At 2-1 there was always a chance Oldham could take something from this game but this looked unlikely when Nathan Tyson was sent off for a second bookable offence after minutes. Tyson went down a little too easily in the Millwall penalty area following a Darren Ward challenge and the referee booked him for diving.

At Carrow Road in December Norwich proved too powerful for Millwall running out as 3-0 winners in a fairly one-sided match, with so much at stake Millwall refused to be rolled again. The game started brightly for the South London side as they took the lead in the 39th minute through David Martin’s well placed shot into the bottom corner. But just before the break the Canaries drew level when Jens Berthel Askou rose unchallenged to score with a header from Steve Smith’s corner. Millwall went on to squander a number of second half chances to claim all the points and the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Another man of the match performance from tricky young winger David Martin sealed a much needed win for Millwall as they overran an inferior Exeter team. It was Martin who opened the scoring on 27 minutes as he volleyed home Anton Jongsma’s cross from 6 yards out. Darren Ward added a second Millwall goal minutes later heading home from Neil Harris’ wicked free kick, and then Harris got a goal of his own in first half injury time. Millwall broke from a failed Exeter attack and Steve Morison crossed for Neil Harris to nod the ball past a floundering Paul jones in the Exeter goal.
Early in the second half Exeter pulled a goal back when Sanchez Watt (on loan from Arsenal) made a lovely run cutting in form the left wing before scoring from an impossible angle. But it wasn’t enough to dent Millwall’s confidence and sub Zavon Hines made it 4-1 in injury time following another counter attacking move.

Under the guise of Wimbledon FC this fixture would have once represented a local rivalry, but since the MK Dons moved north of the capital city to Milton Keynes it is just another fixture like any other. It was Millwall who scored first, Neil Harris started the match in a deeper role than usual in the hope that he would find more space to be creative and this paid off in the 26th minute. Harris played a wonderful through ball for Steve Morison who used his strength to hold off the defender and slot the ball home. On minutes the scores were level, the Millwall defence failed to clear an Andros Townsend corner and Jermaine Easter took advantage of the chaos to poke the ball into an empty goal.
The second half action was end-to-end but there wasn’t another goal until the 83rd minute when Alan Dunne found himself in acres of space on the right wing and hit a powerful shot from the edge of the area and into the top corner. With it looking like Millwall would travel home with a win the celebrating away fans were silenced when the Don’s broke away and an unmarked Jermaine Easter scored an easy effort on 88 minutes.
