AfterMatch
I know it has been a long time but the classes returned and now the trend will only be to reduce the number of AfterMatches, even because writing our opinion may sound easy but it isn't definitely like that. Arranging subjects to write about and finding the best way to write them isn't a work we (or, at least, I) don't like to do. But the final result compensates all the work.
I am finally seeing Benfica playing like the team which won the league last season. They are finally organizing and that organization gave us the triumph over Sporting last week. I wasn't expecting an easy game, but the truth is that due to our organization and Sporting's lack of it granted us the most important 3 points since the beginning of the championship. Everyone played as a team and that was the most important. I hope that that victory and the victory over Maritimo, which was slim, but enough as we totally deserved the victory, is the beggining of a good momentum. Now we will be facing Braga at home, in a really difficult game, but I've got a feeling that we will win it. Then we have the "easy games" (nowadays there aren't) and in the beggining of November the expected match against Porto.
But before Braga, we have to focus on Schalke. They had a poor beggining, even worse than ours, but their squad has, without any doubt, quality and experience. I expect a slim victory (1-0 or 2-1, or even 3-2, something like that), and at Gelsenkirchen and facing a team like this, that is a good result and, right now, we can't expect big victories and have to satisfy with what's enough to grant the 3 points. Braga achieved the 2nd place that way last season...
Now focusing on the team itself, I believe that Roberto is back at its best, and, like I always believed, is proving to be a really decent goalkeeper. Some distractions, but with the pressure he had in the beggining, nothing we weren't expecting... Cardozo is even more unstable, making wonderful games (eg Sporting) and right after poor games (eg Maritimo). The rest of the team is in a good level. My favourite prospect is Jara. I predict a great future for that boy.
Talking about Sporting, I just have one thing to say: wtf? It seemed like everything was going extraordinarily, but then they lose to Benfica and the world almost ends... Benfica isn't that poor, there's no need of making all that drama... Like Paulo Bento said once (softlier) while he was still Sporting's manager, Sporting must assume they are not title contenders and won't be while there is not stability, just like Benfica wasn't while we were changing manager every season or more (in 07/08 we had 3 managers in a season). Absolutely true. I recommend all the lions to give time to the team. They have massive potential, and with time they will be able able of winning big things, but only if they change mentality, what I don't see happening.
Porto annoys me as I never have anything to say... They are the best in the league and deserve the 1st place, and aren't giving me anything else to write about but this...
This Friday Paulo Bento will release his first call for the games against Denmark at Porto and Iceland at Reykjavik. I just hope things get better, as I don' want to spend my last summer holidays (as the world ends at Dec2012
) seeing the other teams playing and without singing the national anthem once...
