Club History and New Era

Crystal Palace Football a professional English Football league club based in South Norwood, London. The team plays its home matches at Selhurst Park, where they have been based since 1924. The club currently competes in The Championship.
Crystal Palace was formed in 1905 by workers at The Crystal Palace. The club reached the top division of English Football in 1969–70, and their first major final was in 1990. They were relegated from the top division in 1973 and once again in the following season. That left the club playing in the third tier of English football for the 1974–75 season, before being promoted back to the top level by 1979–80.

Crystal Palace's most recent successful period began in 1988–89, when the club finished third in the Second Division and was promoted to the First Division. They reached the 1990 FA Cup Final only to lose the replay against Manchester United, and finished 3rd in the First Division in 1990–91. Palace was a founding member of the FA Premier League (1992–93) but was relegated that season. Since then Palace has been relegated from and promoted to the FA Premier League on a number of occasions. Their most recent relegation from the top flight was in the 2004–05 season.

The Glory Days: "super-sub" Ian Wright

The club has twice gone into administration, first in 1998, which ended in 2000 with the purchase by Simon Jordan, who had made his money as an owner of Pocket Phone Shop. The club spent much of its time in the Championship over the next 10 years with a brief spell in the Premier League during 2004/05, but the club went straight back down on the last day of the season. Jordan was unable to put the club on a sound financial footing after 2008, and the club were subject to transfer embargoes. Palace were placed in administration once again in January 2010, owing Jordan himself around £20m. The Football League's regulations saw the Eagles deducted ten points, and they were forced to sell key players including Victor Moses and José Fonte. Survival in The Championship was only secured on the final day of the season after a memorable 2–2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

Victor-Moses01.jpg

Lost Talent: Victor Moses

During the close season CPFC 2010, a consortium consisting of several wealthy fans, successfully negotiated the purchase of the club stadium. Led by Steve Parish, the vocal representative for a consortium that included Jeremy Hosking, CPFC 2010 eventually secured a deal for the football club itself, with Parish becoming chairman. The consortium swiftly installed George Burley as the Eagles' new manager. However a difference it aims for the club left Burley on his way out just after a few days in charge. It was highly expected that club hero Dougie Freedman, assistant to Burley would take that reins. The bookies favourite was left disappointed as the consortium decided to bring in young Irish manager Simon Casey, this represented a major re-shuffle to help to push Palace back to the premiership. Soon after the arrival of Casey, Freedman left the club due to the decision not to put him in the driving seat. Casey in his first press conference went on to state his feeling towards Freedman along with his ambitions for the club.

“ I have great respect for Dougie and I hope there is no bad blood between us, I would have loved to have been able to work with him but unfortunately that will not be the case. I will be hoping to bring Palace up to the premierships as soon as I can but I know this will not be an easy task. My aims for the near future will be to build a team who can grow together over the years and stabilize the club. I will be looking to bring in some of my own backroom staff, and some fresh faces to the squad if possible.”
Simon Casey, new Palace boss

Backroom Staff Revamp by Casey

New Palace manager Simon Casey has let all the previous staff bar one coach and one physio leave since joining. Casey’s new right hand man will be Hughie McAuley, former reserves team manager at Liverpool from 2003 till 2009. McAuley had worked at the club from 1990, mainly working with the youth development team ,coaching the Academy Youth Team. The new assistant manager was the manager of the first Liverpool youth side to win the FA Youth Cup in 1996 and helped develop the likes of Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler.

Arsenal+v+Liverpool+FA+Youth+Cup+Final+1st+RQjYAqvuNXAl.jpg

Casey's new right hand man

Other coaches to come in were John Treacy, Tosh Farrel and Gary Brazil. Ex Ireland international Alan Kelly has come in as the new goalkeeper coach and Brierley will be the new fitness coach. Gary issott was the only saviour of the former coaching staff. Also joining the new set up was one new physio and three new scouts. With his new set of staff around him Casey is expected to make a move into the transfer market in the coming few days, he is reported to have £2 million to spend and a wage budget of around £115k p/w in return for a top half finish.

Five New Eagles

Casey hasn’t been in charge long but he has already left his mark on the transfer market, with five new players joining. The five new Eagles have cost the club £1.05 million in total, quite cheap thanks to three free signings. The calibre of the newcomers are surprisingly high despite the low combo price tag.

Wason_Renteria_1381596c.jpg

This new Eagle will be looking to soar in the scoring charts : Wason Renteria

First to join was Wason Renteria, a 25 year old Colombian striker who has had a hit and miss career so far. The 6ft 1 forward was signed on a free after being released by Porto in the summer, Wason only made 6 appearances for the Portuguese giants and spent most of his time on loan. Casey believes that Renteria will be a major player this season and has stated already he expects the Colombian to take to the English game with ease and hopes of a return of 20 plus goals for the faith his Irish manager has in his ability. A day later in came exciting prospect Marco Verratti, signing from Pescara for a cool £500k. The young Italian midfielder joined to the delight of palace fans. Marco is extremely talented and will be a long servant to the club and according to manager Casey he will become a club legend, if they can hold onto him that is.

The next day saw even more arrivals at Crystal Palace with two new faces joining the ranks. Dzmitry Verkhovtsov and Ahmed Soukouna. Verkhovtsov, brought in from Naftan for a price of £550k is a strong center back with a great leap, the Belarus international is a menace is the air. Dzmitry also has an eye for a pass and can be deployed in midfield if needs be. Soukouna was another free transfer, the ex-Toulouse striker can play on the wing and possess lighting speed. Ahmed, 21 is one to watch. Last of the five is Jose Goncalves on a free transfer, a speedy defender who can play in the center or on the left. The 25 year old is a former Portuguese under 21 international and was last seen playing for Hearts in the Scottish league.

Casey has strengthen his defence and attack highly so far, yet he has brought in a very exciting youngster to his midfield. With half his budget left to spend the question is how many if any new faces will he be adding. Have your say who he should bring in, who would u sign?

Nice start pal, will be following, please keep it up as so many stories fail.

Eagles announce link with United

Earlier today Crystal Palace released a statement that Manchester United with will become a parent club to the London side. The link should benefit both sides with young talent from United practicing their talent in the championship to help establish their careers while helping Palace slide up the ranks. The Devils have already announce that England under 19s captain Matt James will be playing for the Eagles this season. James (19) will be looking to prove his worth while playing at Selhurst Park. James spent last season on loan at Preston and showed his value there. The rumour mill has also spat out that another United midfielder Irishman Darron Gibson maybe also be joining but sources claim that Gibson is unsure of the move, seeing it as a step down is his career.

0,,10329~8950895,00.jpg

England star in the making

I am delighted with the link with United as the calibre of young talent that could potentially be loaned in to gain experience is huge. The arrival of Matt is a great example of this talent, Matt is proven in the championship and a season with us will do nothing but help his career. I believe he will fit in well with the rest of the lads, I can’t guarantee a starting position to the midfielder as we have alot of talent but I can see him being a major player in the fortune of the club this term.

Simon Casey

In other news Palace have taken Mateja Kezman on trial for three weeks, the Serbian will need to impress the Palace boss as his wage demands are high. Kezman has always had an eye for goal but ever since his short stint in England with Chelsea he has been hot a cold compared to his days at PSV and Partizan.

Palace bound?

South African flyer joins the Eagles

Siphiwe Tshabalala has surprised many by joining Palace from South African side Kazier Chiefs for a merger fee of £170k. Tshabalala came to fame during last summer’s World Cup in his home nation. The winger scored one of the goals of the tournament and that goal remains his one and only goal for his country in 17 appearances. Some have labelled Tshabalala as a one tournament wonder and some say this could be a waste of cash for Palace yet fans remain excited.

siphiwe-tshabalala-fifa-world-cup-2010.jpg

Maybe signing of the season

The South African has bags of pace, tricky feet, and creativity in abundance but his consistency is still to be proven. At 25 years old Tshabalala still has plenty of years left in the tank and Palace fans will be hoping his rifle of a left foot will recreate the magic he provided for his country during the World Cup.

Three more new faces at Palace

Casey again has been busy in the transfer market bringing in what looks to be the last of his new recruits. Jordan Spence has come in on loan from West Ham, a promising defender Jordan will be looking to push his way into the starting 11.

Nastja Ceh, an unknown to most joined from Israeli side Bnei Sakhnin for £35k. The 32 year old Slovenian international will be looking to add experience to a young midfield. Nastja is known in Slovenia for having a sweet left foot and being extremely dangerous from set pieces, hopefully his delivery along with the height of Gardner and Verkhovtsov will provide goals. Along with that asset Ceh is very creative, has lots of flair, great technique and a menacing long range shot but will his old body let him down. Last to join was speedy 21 year old and ex red devil Febian Brandy, this youngster will mainly be seen as backup but could become a vital impact sub.

Pre-Season and Squad Review

C.P. Baltimore 1-3 Palace

Palace 3-3 Werder Bremen

Bromley 0-5 Palace

Rushden 0-4 Palace

Ebbsfleet 0-3 Palace

Peterborough 1-2 Palace

Good results all-round, most impressive would be the 3-3 draw versus German side Werder Bremen despite throwing away a 3-1 lead, the result against Peterborough could have been a lot worse for the Posh if Joe Lewis was not between the sticks, the young keeper pulling off a string of high class saves . Kieron Cadogan surprised the most by being one of the top performers. Kezman failed to impress enough to earn a contract even though he provided 3 assists in 3 games, he lacked the killer edge in front of goal that Palace need for the amount of money he was demanding.

Wilfried-Zaha-Crystal-Pal-006.jpg

Young Eagles set to shine

Also failing to impress was Pablo Counago whose loan spell was terminated due to a lack of skill required for the new regime under Casey. Tshabalala was by far the player of the pre-season with 3 goals in 3 games and 2 assists as the South African hits the ground running. This pre-season also saw the departures of who left to join Burnley for a fee of £1.1 million to the disappointment of Palace fans and Calvin Andrew joining Scunthorpe for £170k, Kieran Djilali will spend 6 months on loan at Rotherham. Casey did however manager to hand on to hot prospects Nathaniel Clyne chased by Fulham and Wilfried Zaha who Newcastle had eyes on.

The Squad

With the new season just around the corner, it’s that time to look at how the side shapes up. Will they be ready for the first game of the season away to a strong Middlesbrough side?

Goalkeeping

Julian Speroni is regarded as one of the best keepers in the Championship, the Argentine show he is a great shot stopper in pre-season and will be looking to carrying this form into the new season. Back up is a problem with only Price the reserve keeper as the only option and he seems far from the calibre needed. Rumours are Palace are looking at Smithies and Lewis as potential siginings.

Defence

Palace have really strengthen the defence for this season. The height of players such as Spence, Gardner, Verkhovtsov and Goncalves is frightening as the back line looks strong. Young full back Nathaniel Clyne will be looking to shine, Lee Hills on the other hand will miss most of the season through injury.

Midfield

With players like James, Garvan, Verratti and Cadogan the midfield is youthful and exciting. The midfield also has experience with the likes of Ceh, Ambrose, Dorman and Tshabalala. The midfield may be lacking a bite in regards of tackling but creativity, teamwork and passing is in abundance.

Attack

Scannell will be a big miss for the first few months but the squad has plenty of pace with flyers Vaughan, Soukouna and Brandy. The main targets will surely be Renteria and Iversen who will be expected to get over 15 goals each. Zaha could be the surprise package as the young Eagle looks to make his mark.

Championship - Matchday 1

Middlesborough 2-1 Palace

Middlesbrough+v+Queens+Park+Rangers+UvKyqaUiE6gm.jpg

Robson (43), Boyd (86) – Renteria (68)

Open game of the league campaign kicked off for Palace at Riverside. After such a good pre-season the Eagles will be disappointed not to have finished with at least a point. Robson opened the scoring with a long ranger curler as Borough dominated, it took until the 60 minute until Palace came alive controlling the game from there on. After equalizing through Renteria who scored a debut goal, Palace pushed on for the winner, this backfired as Robson played in Boyd perfectly on the break to make it 2-1 late in the game. Palace had the chances to win the game and nearly snatched a point just at the end, Soukouna heading of the crossbar in injury time. Jose Goncalves came of injured on the 67th minute and will miss 7-8 weeks with strained knee ligaments.

League Cup – 1st Round

Exeter 2-4 Palace (AET)

0,,1~9393354,00.jpg

Sercombe (49, 69) – Iverson (52, 99), Garvan (82), Duffy O.G (118)

Palace faced League One side Exeter in the 1st round of the cup, what should have been an easy win nearly ended in embarrassment. A late goal from Garvan brought the game to extra time where the Championship side pulled away. Although the two goals conceded could be blame on the keeper this really should have been a much more convincing win.

Championship - Matchday 2

Palace 0-3 Nottm Forest

4027911487-27082010171528.jpg

Earnshaw (4, 72), Verkhovtsov O.G. (27)

Robert Earnshaw ran riot as the defend failed to cope with the Welsh striker, although the scoreline was flattering to Forest that’s what happens when you don’t take your chances and the other side does. Palace only had one shot on goal and should of really came away with a point for the amount of chances they created. Not the best start for Casey, the fans start to question his appointment. Palace fall to 22nd.

Championship – Matchday 3

Norwich 1-2 Palace

article-1263305-0307D2F50000044D-958_468x357.jpg

Soares (5) – Verkhovtsov (74), Iversen (79)

Finally a league win, you can imagine that the fans were expected the worse after former Eagle Tom Soares put Norwich ahead after just 5 minutes. Palace showed fighting spirit after they conceded dominating the game from then onwards. With over 60% possession and over 20 shots on goal they left it late and just managed to go away with all 3 points, Iversen the hero. Palace rise to 17th.

League Cup – 2nd Round

Palace 1-2 Bristol City

bristol_1758943c.jpg

Verkhovtsov (13) – Stead (8, 46)

The Eagles crash out in the 2nd round to City at home to the disbelief of Palace fans. Stead scored a screamer from 35 yards his first for Bristol. Palace defended poorly all game and to add an extra blow, Iversen picked up a gashed leg and will be out for up to 3 weeks.

Two new signings join Palace

Palace have announced the signing of Peter Luccin and Stephane Noro, both on frees and both midfielders. Casey was clearly not happy with how his midfield has been playing and decided to bring in more wise heads in order to help sort the problem. Casey also looked to sign Kezman despite not offering a contract to the Serbian after his trial, he felt his link up play was needed after all but Kezman failed to be granted a work permit.

julien-faubert-3.jpg

Peter Bernard Luccin (born 9 April 1979 in Marseille) is a French footballer.

His usual position is defensive midfielder, where he displays an overtly physical approach to the game, which results in many yellow and red cards. After arriving in Spain at age 22, he went on to amass more than 300 official matches for a handful of clubs.

Championship – Matchday 4

Palace 3-1 Coventry

renteria_point.jpg

Renteria (11, 27, 68) – Clyne O.G. (34)

Finally something for the fans as palace tore the Sky Blues apart. Renteria got his first hat trick for the club be realistly he could have had 7 or 8 if he had taken his chances, the pick of the goals was a volley from inside the box after some wonderful link up play with Soukouna. Luccin made a huge impact on his debut, controlling the midfield. Palace up to 12th.

Championship – Matchday 5

Palace 3-2 QPR

Siphiwe+Tshabalala+France+v+South+Africa+Group+RK_WFJ-wsT2l.jpg

Verkhovtsov (8), Tshabalala (48), Renteria (71) – Miller (12, 14)

A big game, a tough game and a great win. Palace struggled to contain Taarabt and Miller yet just edged QPR to the 3 points. QPR showed some unsporting behaviour after Ambrose pulled up while dribbling and went down injured the R’s went on to nearly score to the fury of Palace players, staff and fans. Ambrose came off with a groin strain and will be out of action for 3 weeks. Not to take the shine off the win, Palace up to 6th in the table.

Exciting young striker joins on loan

article-0-09D3843F000005DC-392_468x308.jpg

Connor Wickham he has just recently signed for Man City for a fee of £5 million will be applying his trade at Selhurst Park for the next 3 months. The 17 year old will need to impress during his spell as it will be hard for the dubbed next Alan Shearer to break into the squad of money bags City. Born in Hereford, Herefordshire, the son of an Army Warrant Officer, Wickham grew up a Liverpool fan and considers Fernando Torres to be one of his heroes.

Championship – Matchday 6

Burnley 2-1 Palace

0,,10413~9022464,00.png

Cork (23), Thompson (42) – Verkhovtsov (3)

The Eagles made a bright start at Turf Moor, but it may have been a case of a goal to early. It was an even game but the early goal seemed to give Burnley a kick start. Jack Cork scored a wonder goal curling the ball into the top corner from over 30 yards. Casey’s men were down to 10 men after Soukouna could continue no more and the three allowed substitutions had been made. Soukouna’s injury was as bad as it was feared, a torn hamstring will see him out for 3months. Palace now 10th in the table.

Championship – Matchday 7

Watford 4-0 Palace

Bristol-City-v-Watford-Marvin-Sordell-Joy_2502831.jpg

Sordell (10, 42, 46), Cowie (79)

Palace went to face Watford with high hopes expecting to come away from Vicarage Road with at least a point, this was definitely not the case. Watford battered Palace with Marvin Sordell in stunning form banging in a first half hat trick. This left Palace falling to 14th.

It was not the players fault, I would like to apologise to the fans as I should be the one to blame. I have been far too stubborn with tactics, I now know it is time I realise before it’s too late, I need to adapt to my squad and expect miracles. Some people are asking me to drop certain players like Zaha and Clyne but I will not be doing so, I believe in them and I know they will prove their critics wrong.

Simon Casey

Championship – Matchday 8

Palace 2-1 Leeds Utd

Wickham (7), Vaughan (85) – Becchio (pen 16)

3024353555-02052010121259.jpg

The new look Palace came out with all guns blazing, with over 60% possession and chance after chance with a solid defence. They looked a brand new team with real togetherness, a sour taste was left as Wickham picked up an injury sidelining him for a month. Vaughan scored the pick of the goals blasting home from outside the box.

Championship – Matchday 9

Palace 0-0 Hull

sleepybayern.jpg

Zzzzzzzz… sums it up well, a bore draw with little action. It was a big result for Palace as it marks their first cleansheet of the season and shows improvement has been made.

Championship Matchday 10

Bristol City 2-2 Palace

Keogh (10, 45+4) – Gonclaves (3), Renteria (8)

colombia.jpg

Going to Asthon Gate was never going to be an easy game, although palace lost a two goal lead they was not much Speroni could do about the goals, two top draw finishes from Andy Keogh. Speroni was the hero as he saved a penalty to the horror of taker Nestor Susaeta

Nice update pal, what formation you using now?

Still a 442 but just tweaked a bit to defend and attack more as a team, made the passing less expressive as was giving away the ball to much... its working very well so far

Championship – Matchday 11

Palace 2-0 Preston

1299196164-soccer-barclays-premier-league-blackpool-v-manchester-united-bloomfield-road.jpg

Renteria (12), Verkhovtsov (pen 20)

Another cleansheet as the Eagles start to hit some form. Renteria was again on the score sheet as he is showing the form that was expected from him, strike partner Zaha also impressed, the two seem to be really gelling together of late. Four games now unbeaten for Palace, sitting just in the top half in 11th. Luccin out for 3 weeks with a thigh strain, not as bad as it first looked.

Championship – Matchday 12

Reading 1-5 Palace

Wednesday-v-Palace-Darren-Ambrose-celeb_2448599.jpg

Verratti O.G. (31) -- Ambrose (23), Renteria (55), Zaha (58, 62), Verkhovtsov (74)

Reading of been in quite good form at home this season and I think it was a shock to everyone when Palace rand away 5-1 winners. Half time the sides were level, Casey must of said some words of inspiration as the second half his team came out of the traps flying. Zaha showed why the manager has been giving him so much game time as the 17 year old showed why Casey rates him so highly, Zaha scored his first goal for the club and soon after added another to his account . Ambrose also made a statement with this performance and may be seeing more game time. Palace jump to 8th.

Championship – Matchday 13

Palace 5-0 Cardiff

0,,10323~9056039,00.jpg

Garvan (21), Zaha (24, 34, 63), Renteria (51)

With players like Bellamy, Ramsey and Bothroyd the Eagles did not have high hopes and who can blame them. Palace clear underdogs made mincemeat of Cardiff to the amazement of the home fans. Zaha seem to being playing with great confidences after getting his first senior goal and today will be taking the match ball home after a stunning hat trick. Zaha dubbed the new Michael Owen scored a wonder goal, the youngster lobbed Heaton from 25 yards taking the Cardiff keeper by shock and everyone else in the stadium it seemed as the crowd stood in awe. 5th place now for Palace and their 3rd win on the trot.

Championship – Matchday 14

Ipswich 2-3 Palace

article-1100723-02F06C26000005DC-181_468x356.jpg

Phillips (1), Counago (74) -- Renteria (21), Ambrose (28), Verkhovtsov (35)

Palace went in at half time 3-1 up and the game looked as good as over with Palace dominating, Goncalves was subbed as he looked to be slighty hurt and the Eagles boss didn’t want to risk him, so on came Gardner. Gardner first impact was 30 seconds after kick off, a tackle just outside the box. Now for some strange reason Gardner was shown red by referee Mason who did seem card happy all match. Of course trust Counago to score against the team who he was set to have played for this season but Casey let go, It seemed the Spaniard was really fired up by the comments Casey had made earlier in the season. Palace remain 5th and Renteria also got his 10th goal of the season.

Championship – Matchday 15

Palace 5-1 Leicester

SiphiweTshabalala_2395746.jpg

Verkhovtsov (.6), Renteria (15, 77), Tshabalala (35, 71) -- Yakubu (66)

Leicester were lucky to leave Selhurst Park with only five conceded, the Foxes are having a horrid time as Sven’s time looks to be running out, as for Palace the end the month with a 100% win record. Tshabalala ended the month receiving the player of the month award with Renteria coming 3rd. Zaha came 3rd in the Young Player of the Month which Ched Evans controversially won, many said it should of went to Zaha with his record of 5 in 5 games this month. Casey also came away with an award winning Manager of the month as his team sit above expectations in 5th place.

You seem to be struggling abit but the story looks great.

ah just had to adapt to not having a the best of squads as most players i buy at championship level weren't interested in going palace

Championship – Matchday 16

Milwall 1-9 Palace

ScannellSean.jpg

Askou (11) -- Zaha (1, 23, 70, 74), Tshabalala (36, 86), Verkhovtsov (54), Garvan (62), Scannell (72)

It’s always good to beat your rivals, it’s even better to beat them in their own back yard but its historic when you beat them 9-1 in front of their fans. What a day for the Eagles, Zaha goes one better this time scoring 4 as the youngster is starting to look a real gem of a player. The return of Sean Scannell was a highlight in itself after missing months through an horrific injury, it’s great to see him back and scoring on his return to action, he really announced his return with this cameo from the bench.

Championship – Matchday 17

Palace 2-1 Barnsley

v3ztyt.jpg

Verkhovtsov (48), James (76) – O’Connor (13)

Not the most action packed game but a win is a win, came from behind as this unbeaten run goes on. There was not as many as maybe most would of expected with Palace’s recent form, the strikers just couldn’t seem to find a way past the Barnsley keeper Preece. James had a great game and was the deserved man of the match.

Championship – Matchday 18

Sheff Utd 4-1 Palace

0,,10418~7027097,00.jpg

Morgan (14), Evans (40, 54, 78) – Verkhovtsov (20)

Palace went to Bramall Lane unbeaten but Untied proved too strong for them smashing the Eagles run to pieces. Ched Evans was unstoppable today, the Welshman scored a hat trick and was a treat all throughout the game. Casey will be disappointed for his sides run to end with such a heavy defeat, confidence will have gone for so high to bottom of the barrel.

Championship – Matchday 19

Palace 3-3 Scunthorpe

Connor-Wickham-300x300.jpg

Ambrose (13), Verkhovtsov (76), Wickham (88) – Miller (9, 26), Valles (45)

After the defeat at Bramall lane a game against Scunthorpe at how looked perfect to bounce back, this was not the case and Palace were lucky to get a draw in the end. Scunthorpe were prolific scoring every chance they had which lead them into the break 3-1 up, some would say prolific but others would say bad keeping. Palace battled and battled but couldn’t find the goals they needed, eventually Palace levelled Wickham scoring minutes before it ended as Palace snatched a point in a game they should have won.

Championship – Matchday 20

Swansea 1-1 Palace

Allen (57) -- Verkhovtsov (66)

Palace make it 3 games without a win now, Swansea have been in great form this season so to be far to Palace to get a point away to Swansea was a good result. Allen found the top corner with a curling shot but ten minutes later up steps Verkhovtsov yet again to save his side. Wickham is set to return to City next month so this could of been his last action for Palace this season

Wheeling and Dealing already

Palace has already started their transfer for January despite the fact we are only in December just, as they say there’s no time like the present. Casey still has around £1.5million saved from the summer still be this hasn’t meant players won’t be leaving. Three have already agreed deals to leave in January, Andy Dorman to Bristol Rovers for £170k, Easter to Tranmere for £80k and Iversen to Hibernian for £400k. Danns is expected to agree a move to Sheff Wednesday for around £450k in the coming for days. Casey does face a dilemma however in January with some of the players who came in during the summer and have impressed. Players like Renteria and Tshabalala both having higher club release fees, Renteria’s release is £6million so the club would be happy with that amount and no clubs have shown interest but as for Tshabalala a release of £500k and interest from Arsenal will surely mean he is on his way to the Emirates.

There is good news though, three new players will be joining, two Bossmans and one big signing. Sergey Pareiko will be signing from Tom on a free, Casey has been searching the market for keeper since the summer and the 33 year old Estonian seems to have made the cut. Fabricio was next to agree to terms, set to join on the 1.1.2011 this 20 year old Brazilian will be leaving Palmeiras for sunny Selhurst Park. Fabricio is highly rated, can play in the center or on the left side of defence. The defender is touted as the next Andre Cruz and this has been a major coup for Palace with sides such as PSG and Lyon interested, in the end the young Brazilian decided first team football is what he wants.

The last player set to join is a striker, Garra Dembele, 24 year old Malian from Levski for £2.2million. Levski did not want to sell the striker but Casey wanted him so bad he decided to blow all his money on the forward trigging his minimum release fee. Dembele has already scored 20 goals this season in just 27 games for Levski. Below is an example of his play and why Casey was so desperate to land his man, Eagles fans are excited too bad it’s a month wait to see their new stars in action.

Championship – Matchday 21

Palace 4-3 Portsmouth

Anthony_2517043.jpg

Verkhovtsov (29), Vaughan (57), Tshabalala (68), Gardner (88) – Lawerence(32), Kitson (39, 56)

Coming back from 3-1 down Palace left it very late to grab all 3 points with a late header from Anthony Gardner in the 88th minute, what a time to get your first goal for the club giving Palace their first win in four games. It was not all smiles for the Eagles with two players picking up injuries, key players at that. Goncalves came off after just 26 minutes of play, the defender picked up a hip injury which could of seen him out of action for up to 5 months but Palace will send Jose to a specialist which will cut his time out to 2-3 months. Renteria ended the game early as he limped off with a pulled hamstring that will see him miss 4 weeks. Ath. Madrid boss Quique Flores was spotted at the game, reported to be watching the progress of young talent Verratti.

Championship – Matchday 22

Doncaster 2-3 Palace

Saurez (30), Coppinger (45+2) – Soukouna (7), Verkhovtsov (pen 16), Vaughan (42)

Not as close as the scoreline suggested but Palace conceded to sloppy goals. Soukouna scored in his first goal since returning from injury in his second game back for the Eagles. Vaughan also was on the mark scoring in his second game in a row as he relishes in Renteria’s absence, 4 games unbeaten now for Palace as they look to regain form.

Championship – Matchday 23

Palace 3-0 Derby

Verkhovtsov (15), Tshabalala (30) Cadogan (78)

Palace shrugged of a struggling Derby side today with ease. Two players again came off injured in the forms of Vaughan and Wright, after the game it was announced the neither had picked up anything serious. Kieron Cadogan got his first goal of the season with a well taken finish.

Championship – Matchday 24

Palace 2-0 Middlesbrough

Soukouna (41, 79)

Casey had admitted he had been waiting for this game since the opening day defeat at Riverside and revenge is what they got. Soukouna again showed his prolificacy added to more goals to his tally since his return. Four wins in a row for the Eagles as they climb to 3rd behind Burnley in 1st and Sheff Utd in 2nd.

Championship – Matchday 25

Nottm Forest 2-1 Palace

Pryor (56), Earnshaw (85) – Zaha (74)

Facing one of the best sides in the league Palace stumbled at the final huddle conceding to a late Robert Earnshaw strike, showing the tightness of the league Palace drop to 5th after the defeat. It was a tough game and again injuries played its part. Tshabalala was taken off at half time with a slight knock, 79th minute and no subs remaining Verkhovtsov was forced off after picking up an injury and 2 minutes later Scannel was forced off also with bruised ribs leaving Palace down to 9 players for the closing stages. Zaha scored his 10th of the season.

Championship – Matchday 26

Palace 3-0 Norwich

Gardner (15, 60), Soukouna (52)

Palace restored their 3rd place position after today’s win, possibly the best defensive performance of the season to date, Norwich last in the league may not have been the most dangerous opposition to face though. Marrow made a solid debut for the club. After the game Soukouna was named player of the month and Casey was awarded manager of the month with 5 wins out of 6. Below shows the league table as we step into 2011.

Championship – Matchday 27

Coventry 0-4 Palace

0,,10323~9199411,00.jpg

Verkhovtsov (44, 45+3), Renteria (46), Zaha (71)

A good solid win at the Ricoh Arena, Zaha and Renteria have seemed to rekindled the striking relationship that we saw in the earlier stages of the season. Again injuries were picked, Wright out for 3 weeks with a thigh strain and Soukouna out for 8 weeks with need ligament problems as again his season is halted by injury. Two debuts to Dembele who was quite quiet and Fabricio who had an excellent game. Cadogan really impressed today with two assists.

FA Cup 3rd Rnd

Palace 2-0 Lincoln

warrenlittlegt372.jpg

Renteria (50, 63)

A relaxed game, laid back approach with new loanee Jay O’Shea making he debut seeming to fit in well on the right flank. James and Garvan were pair together to see how they could do in case of an injury to Verratti. Ambrose picked up a knock late it the game, nothing serious.

Championship – Matchday 28

QPR 1-1 Palace

dembele_2547981.jpg

Miller (70) – Dembele (66)

Close game against a tough side, Miller again being too hard to handle for the Eagle’s defence. Garra Dembele got his 1st goal for the club since joining with a low drive in the bottom corner. Speroni ended being the hero saving a Faurlin penalty, his second saved penalty of the season. The keeper who was questioned on his ability not long ago has played immensely since the comments and the arrival of competition for the no.1 spot.

Championship – Matchday 29

Palace 4-1 Burnley

0,,10323~8927941,00.jpg

Verkhovtsov (13, 32), Tshabalala (17), Wilfried Zaha (51) – Thompson (15)

A huge win in the race for promotion, Palace go joint top with Forest although Forest have a game in hand. Casey has really turned the side around considering that the media expected Palace to finish 22nd, Now instead of a relegation dogfight it is a fight for promotion and maybe the title.

FA Cup 4th Rnd

Palace 5-3 Fulham

22674_news.jpg

Zaha (14, 31), Renteria (27, 43, 56) – Verkhovtsov O.G. (40), M.Dembele (62), Davis (72)

A massive win, Palace are really showing quality now and at one stage were 5-1. Zaha and Renteria were unbelievable today, just something else, their partnership is really destroying defences forcing Garra Dembele to wait for a run in the 1st team. Palace go marching on into the 5th round where they will face Birmingham at home.

Transfer News

Fabian-Delph-001.jpg

Casey has managed to hang onto his stars Tshabalala and Verratti as the window closed last night. Verratti is highly rated with teams like Chelsea and Ath. Madrid chasing him, despite the interest and managers coming to see him play no formal bids were made, Tshabalala was the same lots of interest but no bids to the managers relief. Two more players have joined the ranks at Selhurst Park, Jay O’Shea and Irish winger from Birmingham for 3 months and Febian Delph on loan till the end of the season. The loan of Delph has exciting the fans as the youngster looks to regain his confidence after missing 9 months due to damaged cruciate ligaments.
