That's the funny thing though Scott - we're useless. Have been for decades and decades. But still ranked number one in Europe under Rafa because we consistently did well in the CL. What a weird world we live in. Even when we're useless we still pick up European honours, as well as domestic trophies. Criminal, ain't it? We should be happy with the odd F.A.Cup every decade...
Reina, check. Gerrard, check. Torres, check. I make that three world class players in the team. Agree with you about Carra and mentioned it on here several times last season. Gerrard is also approaching the stage where he should be moved on, in the best traditions of the club selling players as they just pass their peak and we get the money to reinvest on a replacement. Oddly enough our last manager thought along those lines too... are you Rafa in disguise Scott?
I have every sympathy with Torres at the moment. Most of the crowd who turn up at Anfield are uninterested in the football we're playing at the moment.
And rightly so - in fact, he was under pressure from a lot of fans the moment the dimwit thought that a reversion to 4-4-2 hoofball would be sufficient at Liverpool. The man is drowning not waving. See previous comment.
That wasn't a dig at Manchester United. Well, unless a simple statement of fact is sufficient to be a dig at Manchester United.
Your manager has defined his whole career at Old Trafford in the light of my club's past managers - he did this himself because he wanted to 'knock us off our f*cking perch'. He didn't manage to do that without some help from Souness, but he's still there plugging away - constantly aware that he's now the manager who got beaten 4-1 at Old Trafford by Liverpool and who still hasn't taken your club to our European heights. ^^)
Btw - doesn't bother me in the slightest that Bill Shankly wasn't knighted - he was a man of the people not a champagne socialist like Clough and others. Sir Bob should have been though. It's rare for a footballing man to achieve that much success, give so much to the game, and have even his biggest rival acclaim him as a genuine gentleman. The reason why it rubs so much is because it was fairly evident that the politics of the early 80s was the reason why a good man didn't get that recognition.
