Season 2023 - 2024
Transfer news
Stockport have never been able to succesfully steer themselves away from the relegation zone and make a successful claim to stay and establish them in the top half of the Premier League since chairman Ian Leach took-over from the popular Jim Melrose. This season Sam Charnock told us he had £12m at his disposal and he now believes he has a successful team to challenge this time and has admitted his side lacks goals. The departure of influential striker Andy Rooney left a gap in the Stockport side and Charnock new he had to sign a striker, but he wasn't under much pressure, as Andy Rooney made more than he created, and it was Genoa who took the gamble on the former under21 international for a fee of £10M and he has scored more than he has played, and Charnock fears he made a mistake -
"I don't know how he does so well in the foreign leagues than he did with us, there's no questioning he's a great talent but at times, it didn't work out for him here, so all I can say is I wish him the best for the future."

Many key players of Stockport's previous season's have had to leave the club, names such as, goalkeeper Nicola Pace, Midfielder Craig Thomson, striker Charlie Austin and Michael Potts have all departed as the manager admitted his squad need new blood to challenge for the top end of the Premier League -
"The departed players were all brilliant, but had to leave while I could get a decent price for them, I always believe there needs to be some experienced lads in the dressing room, but since the new chairman arrived, we haven't had much money to spend, so I need to sell players to make money."
Transfers IN
Sam Charnock has added experienced players to his relatively young squad with United legend Wayne Rooney and former Belgium international Eden Hazard, Rooney who rejected a move to Stockport in January, has now said that this is a good move for him - "
I had many offers, but Stockport showed alot of interest in me, if im honest, I considered retiring, because I couldn't see myself at another club that Manchester United, but this move interested me, the surroundings are good, and the club looks like it's going places and I want to be a part of it."
Squad -
Our squad is quite very different since last year, and it was then I realised Morten Johansen will be key as he was our top scorer and player of the year, from midfield, so I know, to be succesful, Johansen needs to be fit all year, and he is 3rd in the captain's order to hopefully give him confidence. Our striking options are minimal, with Aaron Spear and Yordanov the obvious choices, if not Rooney will be a serious contender and I aim to give him 20+ games, because he's still a good player and it would be a shame to waste his talents, at the back is where we are strongest, Stuart Dance, who was linked with a £15m move to Spurs, which we rejected will be first in the defence team sheet.
Hopefully we can finish higher than
16th in which the media predicted us at.
- Before I finish, try and say this guys name!
