CLOUGH LEAVES SHEFF UTD
View attachment 330375

Nigel Clough has quit his managers position at Sheffield United. Sky sources understand there were growing tensions between Clough and the board due to finances available. It is understood Clough was left dismayed at the boards lack of backing during the summer and in particular their failure to tie down last season's loanees John Brayford and Connor Coady. Clough took over at Sheffield United in October 2013 with the South Yorkshire club in the bottom 4 of league one after a disastrous spell under David Weir. Clough guided the Blades to 7th place in league one, missing out on the play offs by 7 points, as well as reaching the FA cup semi final where their dream eventually ended at the hands of Hull. Utd's FA cup run was the highlight of Clough's brief reign with wins over premier league sides Aston Villa and Fulham as well as Charlton and local rivals Nottingham Forest before losing 5-3 to Hull at Wembley in the semi final.
Clough was unavailable for comment.

BEATTIE UNVEILED AS NEW BLADES BOSS !

James Beattie has been appointed the new manager at Sheffield United. Beattie re-joins the Blades after one season in management with Accrington Stanley. Beattie enjoyed a successful stint with Accrington who eventually finished 15th in League Two after being one of the favorites for relegation that season.

Beattie re-joins the Blades for the THIRD time after two stints as a player. Beattie first joined Utd at the start of the 07-08 season after their relegation from the Premier League, he joined for a club record transfer fee of £4million. During his first Spell Beattie proved to be a fans favorite and eventually finished joint top goalscorer in the Championship with 22. Beattie's goalscoring form didnt go unnoticed and after an 18 month stint Beattie moved on to Stoke City for £3.5million. Utd never really replaced Beattie and finished the season by losing the play off final to Burnley.

Beattie's second spell at the Blades was less successful. He joined the blades for the second time at the start of the 11-12 season with the Blades now in league one. Beattie managed 18 appearances that season but failed to find the back of the net. Beatties biggest regret of his second stint will be missing both the play off semi final and final matches due to suspension.

Beattie obviously impressed on his interview and secured a one year contract.

So i thought my first job as manager should be to assess my squad to see what objectives would be fair.
Squad Assessment:
Gk:
MARK HOWARD looks to be a decent number one. IAIN TURNER looks decent back up, only contracted until January 15. GEORGE LONG looks to be a very good prospect and should be fighting HOWARD for number one after his loan stint at Oxford.
Left back:
BOB HARRIS looks to be a good player for this level. JAY MCEVERLEY also looks decent back up who can also play centre back
Right back:
CRAIG ALCOCK should be plenty good enough for this level. Decent league one experience as well.
Centre back:
ANDY BUTLER will be first choice, potential capta in as well. NEIL COLLINS looks decen t but his wages seem far too high for his ability. HARRISON MCGAHEY looks a decent youngster but wont feature much this year.
Central midfield:
J AMES WALLACE w ill definatley be first choice, looks a great player. STEFAN SCOUGALL looks decent too. MICHAEL DOYLE and STEPHEN MCGINN will be looking at moving on.
Wide midfield:
JAMIE MURPHY will be first choice for the left wing position, looks too good for this division. CAMPBELL-RYCE, BEN DAVIES and RYAN FLYNN are all good enough to be first choice right winger.
Attacking midfield:
JOSE BAXTER looks too good for this division and will be first choice AM.
Centre forward:
MICHAEL HIGDON looks decent and good enough for the championship. MARC MCNULTY looks a good prospect but not ready yet. CHRIS PORTER just isnt good enough and will be looking to move on.

DOUBLE SIGNING AT SHEFF UTD !!
View attachment 330098

Sheffield United have completed the signings of both Tyler Blacket from Manchester United and Laste Doumbaxe most recently at Tottenham. Blackett signs on a season long loan after after two previous unsuccessful loan spells at both Blackpool and Birmingham.

Laste Dombaxe, 20, has signed on a 2 year deal after failing to make a single appearance at Tottenham.

Beattie is said to be very happy to get both deals across the line so soon after taking over the job. "Both players have a lot to prove so hopefully they can do that here. The first job for both the lads will be to get in the starting line with the amount of competition we have".

The Blades start their pre-season with an away trip to Cowdenbeath.

So, pre-season has finished ...

And we finish pre season unbeaten with a very good away win at Championship side Rotherham. The rest of the fixtures i would expect to win, but some good performances none the less.

Utd have also made two further signings before the start of the season. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake signs on a free transfer on a two year deal. And Mehdi Abeid has signed on a season long loan from Newcastle. Two signing which should improve the starting line up immediately.

Utd start their league campaign at home to fellow promotion favorites Bristol City.

View attachment 329744So my first month in management finished! Pretty pleased with both the results and performances. My only concern is the amount of goals we seem to be conceding ... 2 against Preston, 2 at Bolton and 2 at Coventry!

GAME OF THE MONTH: A tough one between the win away at Bolton and maybe surprisingly but the 2-2 draw at Coventry. The Bolton game was a really good performance after going 2-1 down we showed great character to come back and win. The draw at Coventry was was possibly my favorite due to us being 2-0 down and scoring 2 really late goals. Again showing great character.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. Scoring 3 goals has to make him player of the month. Looks like the judges may disagree anyway as they've awarded Tyler Blackett the young player of the month award! View attachment 329734
The first month of the season also brings the end of the transfer market. We managed to tie up the transfer of Danny Wilson from Hearts on deadline day. It was quite a high fee but he looks to have great potential and will be able to make a difference from day one.
As you can see, i've also decided to move on both Neil Collins and Michael Doyle. This was simply to get them off the wage bill as their wages were far too high. Also with the competition we have for centre back Collins would be well behind in the pecking order.

wow some top signings there for Sheff United, despite being in League One you managed to get players like Blackett and Abeid and also a great signing in Danny Wilson which i was surprised about more than anything, he is way better than League One and will prove to be a top CB for you as you try to get promoted, will follow this and good luck!

Cheers guys! I too was really happy with the transfers. I did think Wilson was a bit expensive but we'll see how far he can progress with us :)

So, we've got to the end of September now and another good month for Beattie and the Blades!
Unfortunaltey for UTD their Capital One Cup runs come to an end with an away defeat to Sunderland. I really felt we were unlucky in the cup game falling to a late winner by Sunderland.
Other than that the fans saw good wins over Mk Dons, Rochdale, Colchester and Gillinham as well as a decent draw against Swindon.
Although early in the season this leaves us top of the league, 2 points clear of Preston.

GAME OF THE MONTH:I think the win over Mk Dons has to win this award. I really feel Mk Dons will be up there com the end of the season so a 3-0 win really shows we mean business!

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: This has to go to Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. Scoring 6 goals in 5 league games! He's proving to be a really good signing! The judges obviously agree as the league nominated him player of the month too! View attachment 329388

Wow what an amazing month there! only the loss to Sunderland which is not a bad result either, looks like you will be setting your team up to do well and would expect you to be in the Championship next season

Cheers! Yeah the defeat to Sunderland doesnt look bad but i really felt we could get a result there. The Championship is the aim!!
Looking good so far but a long way to go yet.

Another fantastic month for the Blades! Only slip up being the 1-1 draw away at Bradford. This really good month leaves us 3 points ahead of Preston who are still second. On paper this month has been kinder in terns of fixtures but a couple of tough away games were included.

GAME OF THE MONTH: A tough one between the 4-0 win away at Crew and the 3-1 home win against Yeovil. The 4-0 win at Crewe was probably our best performance, Crewe were never in the game and in truth we could have had more than 4-0. The win against Yeovil was really pleasing as they were fifth in the league at the time. Because of that i think the Yeovil game just nicks it.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Has to go to Jamie Murphy simply because of the amount he's scored. Scoring 4 goals in 6 which is really good from the left wing position. Murphy also won the leagues player of the month award too. I also want to give Abeid a mention as he's really started to boss midfield now, chipping in with a few goals too!

Well November is the month we come crashing down to earth! Really disappointment with the home defeat against Barnsley, especially with the match being on TV! Barnsley were just better than is on the day. Danny Wilson obviously had extra motivation having managed Beattie during his time at UTD.
In hindsight i made too many changes for the two cup games playing a lot of the under 21 and under 18 teams. As you can see, no one really impressed. We finished the month okay with a couple of decent wins.

GAME OF THE MONTH: Has to be the 2-1 away win against Doncaster. In truth there wasnt really much to chose from in such a poor month for us.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: This is a tough one as the whole squad played poorly throughout November, Abeid is probably the only player who's level hasn't dropped.

Back to winning ways again in December! A really good defensive record throughout the month too with 3 clean sheets in 4 games. On paper we should have won all 4 games as they're all struggling towards the bottom.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Tyler has to win this one, having kept 3 clean sheets and also won 2 man of the match awards.

GAME OF THE MONTH: This has to go to the 3-1 win away at Fleetwood, we were in complete control for the match in what could have been a tough away trip.

We also end the year in top spot 4 points cear of Nigel Cloughs Preston North End! View attachment 328520

DIEGO DE GIROLAMO TURNS DOWN SHEFF UTD OFFER !!

View attachment 328519

Diego De Girolamo has turned down the latest offer made by Sheffield United to renew his contract. The 19 year old has only made 5 appearances for the Blades this season, most of which have come in cup competition. Sheff Utd manager James Beattie has also had his say "We are very disappointment that Diego's turned down our latest offer. Perhaps Diego sees his development is best seen away from our football club. However, i feel we have made a very fair offer to the lad and unfortunately Diego didnt see it that way".

As De Girolamo's contract is due to expire on at the end of the season he is free to talk to clubs abroad from the 1st of January and therefore Utd will miss out on any compensation.

DIEGO DE GIROLAMO JOINS BOLOGNA

View attachment 328349

Sky sources understand that Sheff Utd's Diego De Girolamo has signed an agreement to join Italian side Bologna. Bologna are current in the Italian second division and are currently one of the favorites for promotion to Serie A.

De Girolamo has experienced a frustrating season at the Blades having only made 5 appearances, most of which coming in cup competitions. This news hasnt gone down well with the Sheffield United supporters who have voiced there anger on social media.

Fantastic start so far really enjoying it!

A mixed month for the blades which ends with three straight draws. The 3-1 defeat against Notts County was particularly disappointing, we had a few players out through injury but still should be beating them! Although the three draws dont look great Mk Dons are right up there and Swindon were on a decent run! Th draw against Rochdale wasnt great with us conceeding a late equalizer.

GAME OF THE MONTH: Has to be the 1-0 win at home to Preston. Preston are our biggest rivals and have been all season. Also managed by Nigel Clough this was a really pleasing win.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Laste Dombaxe has to win this award, scoring two and really upping his game. He's now starting to make the ring wing position his own.
