Sheff Utd story

going well but unlucky with not securing Diego De Girolamo to a new contract, maybe something you should had done at the start of the season

Yeah not securing De Girolamo is probably my biggest regret so far! He really didnt impress in the first half of the season but could tell he's really got potential.

February was another good month which includes 3 wins out of 4 games. Expected victories against both Gillingham and Colchester who are both towards the bottom of the league. Then came the disappointing defeat to Bristol City which was our 3rd defeat of the season. The 4-0 win at home to Coventry was obviously pleasing, a really good performance with Ebanks-Blake netting twice.

GAME OF THE MONTH: Obviously has to be the 4-0 win at home to Coventry, Ebanks-Blake netted twice and won the man of the match award. It was also nice to get straight back to winning ways after the defeat to Bristol.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Im going to give this award to Jamie Murphy, scoring 3 goals from a wide midfield role is really impressive but he also set up 2 and won the man of the match against against Colchester.

At the end of February we still sit in top spot, 2 points clear of Preston and with a game in hand. View attachment 327822

A mixed month in March, with two really dissappointing defeats against Scunthorpe and Walsall.

Our attacking play was really good but we looked a bit dodgey at the back. Both Blackett and Butler were injured for both the defeats and also the Crawley game. Harrison McGahey filled in and really didnt impress.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Has to go with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, scoring 7 goals in 7 games throughout March. He's also on target to finish top goalscorer in the league.

GAME OF THE MONTH: A tough one between the 5-1 away win at Crawley and the 3-0 home win against Peterborough. I think i have to go with the Peterborough game simply because there a top 6 side whereas Crawley have been in the bottom 4 all season.

It would take a fairly big balls up for us to not win the league now .... the Championship is within touching distance!

4 wins out of 6 is still great :) look forward to seeing what you can do in the Championship next season!

SHEFF UTD WIN LEAGUE ONE !!

Well, there we have it! We've won the league !!
Slightly disappointment that we didnt finish on 100 points but 2 draws at the end of the season ruined that. Still, really happy to finish first and finish 8 points clear of Preston (managed by Nigel Clough). So, we finished on 98 points having only lost 6 league games all season. We also had both the best defence and the most goals scored throughout the whole division.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake finished top scorer in the league with 25 goals, and Abeid was top of the average rating table. Wev've got 6 players in the top 10 for average ratings which really shows how dominant we've been this season.

Jamie Murphy has won arguably the biggest award being awarded League One's player of the season! If i'm honest im a little suprised by this as although he had a good season i dont even think he was our best player this season.
As you can see, our supporters agreed ... awarding Abeid the fans player of the season!

So, lets see how we get on in the Championship !!

Great season mate! been interesting to see who you bring in for the Championship!

Well done on winning the league so convincingly! Will definately be following the rest of this story as it is looking quite promising.

DOUBLE SIGNING AT SHEFF UTD !!

View attachment 326494View attachment 326493

Sheff utd have confirmed the double signing of both Keith Andrews and Adam Le Fondre. Andrews signs on a one year contract on a free contract after his deal with Bolton ran out. Andrews most recently enjoyed a loan spell with Watford, playing 43 games and achieving an average rating of 7:33.

Adam Le Fondre signs on an initial one year loan deal with an agreed transfer agreed for a fee of £650,000.

DELE ALLI JOINS BLADES

Dele Alli has joined Championship side Sheffield United! The 19 year old, a product of the MK Dons youth development, joins the Blades in a deal said to be worth around £2.3m.
Alli had a very successful season in league one last year with Mk Dons, playing 39 games and scoring 7 with an average rating of 7.18. Alli also put in a couple of impressive performances against the Blades.

Alli was also played a pivotal role in England under 19's reaching the semi finals of the European Championship where they were eventually knocked out by Holland.

nice deals with Dele Alli and Le Fondre but not too sure with Andrews but good luck!

So, a mixed pre season before the massive challenge of Championship football. If I'm honest these results dont fill me with a great deal of confidence. The two wins are pretty predictable against much poorer opposition. The defeat against Coventry was really poor, however we made a lot of changes and gave some youngsters a run out. The man utd game was to be expected, especially as they started their first team!

The end of the pre-season has also brought a few last minute transfers:

Adrian Mariappa signed from Crystal Palace for £450k

Gary Mackay-Stevens signed on a free transfer after his contract with Dundee Utd expired.

Chris Eagles signed from Cardiff for a fee of £400k.

And both Azbe Jug and David Ducourtioux both signed on free transfers.
Azbe Jug signed from Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux, the 6ft 4in goalkeeper was primarily number 2 and only made 2 appearance in nearly 5 seasons! Only ages 23 though so hoping theres some improvement in him.
David Ducourtioux is an experienced defensive midfielder who can also operate at right back. The 37 year old has spent his whole career in the french league, most recently being at GFC Ajaccio in the French second division.

I never worry too much on results in Pre-Season, i just always focus on fitness but good luck, i signed Dele Alli for Brighton in Prem and he is doing alright!

Yeah, good point. Been trying a new formation too (which i'll explain in a min). Im not surprised mate, he looks quality!

So as you can we've made a fantastic start to life in the Championship! Wins over Preston, Brighton, Sunderland, Birmingham and Derby have left with a great start! The only blemish on the record was the defeat at home to Millwall which was a really poor performance!

The preston game was really pleasing because i really didnt know what to expect after the poor pre season we'd had. The Brighton and Derby results were really good defensive displays as we sat in, didnt have much possession but caught them on the break. The 2 cup games were also pretty pleasing, especially the Birmingham game as we were 2-0 down until then 89th minute and got the winner in the 95th minute.

GAME OF THE MONTH: Has the be the Sunderland game, a 4-1 win over a recenly relegate side was really pleasing, especially as we went 4-0 up. Pick of the goals was Jose Baxters free kick from around 35 yards!

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Has to be Adam Le Fondre, scoring 7 goals in g games !! He's getting really important goals too including a double against Preston, equaliser against Shrewsbury, winner against Brighton, and the first in the comeback against Birmingham.

This fantastic start actually leaves us second in the league !! I know its early days but still really pleasing.

As i mentioned earlier, i've started using a sligtly different formation this season. This is because we had so little posession last season and i wanted to make us more solid at the back. Also, i didnt really feel the full backs were going to be good enough to be starting every game. Below iv taken a screenshot of the new formation:

The end of this fantastic month also brought the end of the transfer market too:

As you can see, we ended up spending nearly £4million on new recruits! The late additions of Michael Keane (on loan from Man Utd) and last seasons player of the season Mehdi Abeid who signed from Newcastle for £750k.

This should give us a lot of energy and potential for improvement in central midfield, with Abeid and Alli hopefully forming a good partnership. Slightly unsure of Azbe Jug simply because of the lack of game time he's had throughout his career, although he's had a really good start to the season!

We also saw Marc McNulty, Ryan Flynn and Craig Alcock leave the club for a combined fee of £1.4 million.

Another good month, despite the two home defeats against Forest and Wolves. 3 Straight wins against teams that will more than likely be challenging for play off spaces at the of the season was really pleasing!
The biggest disappointment this month was an injury which Dele Ali picked up in the 1-1 draw at Blackburn. Alli will be out for around months!!

The win against Blackburn in the cup was a big night as we've now drawn Liverpool at home in the next round!

GAME OF THE MONTH: Im going to go for the 2-0 away win at Middlesborough! Boro were flying in 6th place having won their last 4-0 games in a row. So to go there and get such a comfortable result was really pleasing.

PLAYER OF MONTH: I'm going to go with Dele Alli for this one, he's becoming such a vital player for us. His injury will be a massive blow!

Another good month also allows us to keep our place in the play off positions.

A mixed month with the obvious exception of the victory against Liverpool in the league cup!
The draw against blackpool was slightly dissapointing, against a mid table team at home we really should be winning! Crystal Palace showed their class by beating us 2-1, they were much the better team. A 1-0 win over Fulham was very pleasing, Fulham are challenging for a play off position so it was nice to beat a rival.
Then, the victory against Liverpool. I would say this is without doubt my best win so far! Liverpool had chances to win it throughout the game but 2 really good counter attacks got us the win. This now means we'll be playing Arsenal in the 1/4 final ! Another tough tie.
The Rotherham defeat felt even worse after the brilliant win over Liverpool.

So by the end of October, the play offs are still in sight ... 2 points off with plenty of time left yet.
