The Creation of the Dragon Slayers - Part Two
"Ah, finally." I think to myself as I gently stroke my goatee. After all this work, years of time, effort, blood, sweat and tears, I've put the squad together and we're one step closer to becoming fully operational.
Goalkeepers
Alex Smithies (Huddersfield Town)
Declan Rudd (Norwich City)
Scott Loach (Watford)
Quite happy with those three. I think Smithies will be my #1 but Loach is a far-more-than-capable replacement. And if it comes down to it, Rudd knows how to stop a ball as well.
Defenders
Chris Smalling (Mancherster United)
Matthew Briggs (Fulham)
Reece Brown (Manchester United)
James Tomkins (West Ham United)
Michael Mancienne (Chelsea)
Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea)
Andre Wisdom (Liverpool)
Jordan Spence (West Ham United)
What a brilliant mix of talent. I'm delighted to get Smalling in particular, especially so soon after his move to Man Utd; but he is desperate to get into the England team in the future and that's what did it for him. Briggs and Brown can both do a job, but will probably be on the bench. Tomkins and Mancienne, two Premiership quality defenders with frustrating periods at their former clubs, looking forward to managing them. Bertrand is a flying left-back who is the next Ashley Cole, mark my words. Wisdom is the youngest in the whole squad, at 16, and has plenty of time to develop before the 23 age barrier. Spence is brilliant as he gives me cover for both CB and RB. A good set of defenders.
Midfielders
Jacob Mellis (Chelsea)
Henri Lansbury (Arsenal)
John Bostock (Tottenham Hotspur)
Tom Cleverley (Manchester United)
Victor Moses (Wigan Athletic)
Fabian Delph (Aston Villa)
Jordan Henderson (Sunderland)
Ben Greenhalgh (Inter Milan)
Jack Rodwell (Everton)
What a delightful set of midfielders, this is where we will really shine. There's so many combinations I can use, and they'd all work so, so well. Rodwell is the shining star; I've already decided he's going to be my captain and he'll play alongside Delph in the middle of the park. Mellis and Lansbury can play all across the line and are brilliant cover. Moses will most likely sit behind the striker(s), and Henderson and Greenhalgh will most likely be on the right and left respectively. I've also got Cleverley to cover both wings.
Strikers
Nathan Delfounso (Aston Villa)
Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni (Manchester City)
Nile Ranger (Newcastle United)
Ryan Noble (Sunderland)
Charlie Austin (Swindon Town)
So much talent packed into the front-line for us. It's so hard who to pick for the limited strikers role. Delfounso, Ranger and Austin are my real favourites, though. But with the likelihood being I'll only play with one striker, it's going to be difficult for them. They're quality and will play for England one day. I am sure of it. Noble and Nimely-Tchuimeni (yes, English) are both more than good and will be pushing for their slots all the way.
