I'm doing a test on a single match reloading it every time, with all players from both teams 100% morale/fitness, consistency 20, injury proneness 1, tactic fluidity 100% for both teams.
By now I tested 8 forum tactics, each one for 30 games. What is amazing is the randomness of results, using the same methodology of Will (simulated match with no match plan).

I'm writing down goals for/against and CCC for/against.

A copy of Predator for FM15 got 67 pts on 30 matches, more than other tactics. 17 matches we got more CCC than other team, on 6 it was equal and on 7 we got less CCC.
Meanwhile Dimartino 442v1 got 47 pts, but 18 matches we got more CCC than other team, on 5 it was equal and on 5 we got less CCC.
Gatling update got 63 pts, 13 more CCC, 6 same CCC and 11 less CCC.

Most goals for was: Gatling update with 2,43 per match
Less goals against was: Mr L assymetric 4231 Heavy metal with 0,73 per match
Best ratio goal for/against was Copy of Predator FM 15 with 2,5
Best ratio CCC for/against was Dimartino 442v1 with 1,9

It's Brazilian First Division with Fluminense (tester) x Gremio, similar rated teams. Gremio is playing 4231 Wide.


I let a macro run this afternoon 500 matches, printing screen every result with CCC and reloading, with gatling update, this time the next match is Corinthians x Fluminense (tester). I want to see if 30 matches is good enough to have a good interval confidence on the results. If yes I will proceed testing many tactics against many formations. If not I think this method of testing may be too random (instant results).

I will be testing some of the most popular tactics on here using a custom database that I have created featuring a 26 team premier league (50 games).

I will be playing as my club Leicester (PS We Are Top of the League) who have got a media prediction of 15th place.

All teams are under transfer embargoes so there will be no transfers and I have removed all injuries and any chances of getting any injuries.

I will use the OI's and set-piece takers recommended and my assistant manager will be in charge of team selection, training and team talks.

I will be using an instant result skin with the no match plan, simulated result option.

The purpose of this test is to find the best tactic for Leicester.

Very interesting methodology. I would not be surprised that FM results are more probabilistic than not, but like you alluded to, even a statistically valid conclusion in this scenario is impractical until more diverse opponents are tested.

I managed to simulate "only" 123 matches due to some error. Anyway, I'm a bit disappointed with the outcome.

Corinthians (4132 narrow) was opponent (home) and Fluminense (away) was the tester.
Goal for corinthians was 1.894 and for fluminense 1.886
CCC 2.089 x 2.122
Pts for fluminense was on average 1.472
The problem was the huge deviation. For 123 games there was a coefficient of variation of 66.85% x 70.94%, with variation % for CCCs around 80%.
I lost 6-0 and won 6-0 using the same tactics, maximum consistency, perfect fluidity, morale and fitness for both teams.

When analysing blocks of 30 matches ratio of goals varied between 0.8833 and 1.111 on each block.
On each of the 4 30-matches blocks I got 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.733 points per match. This coould mean that if you do a 38-games season test with the same conditions you may get between 46 and 66 points.

Way too random to analyse efficacy of tactics unfortunately.
