Aaaaagg! So close and yet again so far. Gutted, I was expecting a win after seeing the start of the match but then it turned all sour. I hope this won't have your players' morale too down and you can start to pick up results in the coming matches.

I know, we started so well! A couple of freak goals for them and then we were forced to go for broke, and they made it seem far more comfortable than it really was :/ Let's hope so!

That was some tough bunch of games. United, Liverpool and Arsenal in such quick succession is very unfavourable. :/

Here's hoping you can turn things around in the League. Elsewhere, the Villareal clash should prove to be an interesting one - good luck for the knockout stages in the Europa League.

Ouch !! Tough losses there my friend but you are still very close to the top four teams. You are doing a wonderful job if you takie into account all the injuries you have to face !

Bad news - in my opinion at least - as Ancelotti joins United.

I held a team meeting in an attempt to arrest the slide. It seems to have had the desired effect, hopefully we can carry this into the Sunderland match.

I have a heck of a lot of screenshots for the next couple of game weeks, as the transfer window has opened. Expect a great deal of updates in about 12 hours or so!

Yeah the fixture list wasn't very kind to us, hopefully we can start picking up points again soon. And I really can't call the Villareal tie at this stage, we're both good sides, may come down to form at the time.

Thanks mate, can't be too disappointed, it's only season one and as you say we've had some horrible luck with injuries!

English Premier League - Game 20 - Sunderland (Home)

A heavily rotated side takes the field today, just two days after the Arsenal match. Hopefully these guys have enough about them to get the result. Players like Long and Pelle are running out of chances, and they don’t come much better than this. If we can’t beat Sunderland then I’ll know we have a real crisis on our hands. Sunderland’s 5-4-1 formation suggests they’re knuckling down to defend.

In the 13th minute we had a very fortunate let off, as Yedlin’s bullet cross was turned onto the post by Defoe. Couldn’t believe he missed that one.

Juanmi then opened the scoring for us in the 27th minute, rising highest to head home Targett’s cross from close range.

We seem to have an extraordinary knack of conceding immediately after scoring, and that was exactly what happened, Ola Toivonen equalising within 30 seconds of the kickoff.

In the 52nd minute the ineffectual pair of Pelle and Long were replaced by Rodriguez and Ramirez.

3 minutes later Juanmi picked up the ball on a counter attack and threaded it through to Rodriguez, but having raced clear, his shot was weak and easily saved by Pantilimon.

In the 59th minute Slattery lobbed a fantastic ball over the top for Rodriguez, who sent it wide for Ramirez. Ramirez put in a cross which took a touch off a defenders head and went to Pantilimon, who dropped it, and Slattery was the quickest to react, netting his first senior goal for the club!

Another youngster in Hesketh replaced Wanyama in the 62nd minute.

Neither team created any further chances of note.

A narrow win, but a very important one, with young Callum Slattery providing the match winner. Disappointed in Long and Pelle yet again, and their futures are certainly in doubt at this stage. In the post match press conference I learnt that I’ve used 26 different players in the league so far, the most of any club.

POM: Callum Slattery (7.9, 1G, 0A)

Transfer News...

A young keeper who I’d never heard of joins for 4m, rising potentially to 4.5m. The reason I signed him? He’s a Polish keeper from Jagiellona, and I had a Polish keeper from Jagiellona in FM14 as one of my favourite ever regens.

I just couldn’t say no to this guy, even if he’s not as good as some of the other options out there. Rulli was available on a Bosman but just about everybody is signing him so I wanted somebody different.

The chairman has, out of nowhere, provided me with a huge budget. I was not expecting this, but it’s certainly welcome. I don’t intend to spend all of it, but some defensive upgrades could be on the way.

Transfer News...
Gitschier arrives too. I’ve got high hopes for this lad.

A couple of hours later, I received an offer for Gazzaniga. I would probably have transfer listed him anyway, so this is good news. I negotiated it slightly, and we had an agreement. Hopefully he's happy to sign for them.

English Premier League - Game 21 - Bournemouth (Home)

Dragowski comes straight into the starting lineup today. He’s our long term number one, he might as well start today, as Stekelenburg is only on loan and hasn’t been all that impressive anyway. Returning faces include Martina, and Van Dijk on the bench.

Gardos opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a volley after some penalty box pinball was sparked by a corner.

Dragowski introduced himself to the St Mary’s faithful two minutes later by denying Callum Wilson 1v1 when the defence was caught out by a long ball.

Sadio Mane curled a shot just around the post just a minute later after cutting in from the right.

Jay Rodriguez doubled the lead in the 22nd with an emphatic finish from Juanmi’s pass.

A minute later Tadic slipped Rodriguez through, and he was fouled before he could shoot, and a penalty was awarded. Tadic kept his composure to make it 3.

We were running riot, and made it 4 in just the 26th minute, as Mane’s cross to Juanmi was intercepted but fell to Rodriguez in the 6 yard box, and the striker had his second!

Tadic got in on the act with his second in stoppage time. Mane’s cross wasn’t cleared properly and Wanyama’s blocked header fell to the Serbian, who roofed it to make it 5!

Callum Wilson scored an outstanding individual effort in the 67th to put Bournemouth on the board, dribbling through four Saints players before sliding the ball coolly into the bottom corner.

Two minutes later Rodriguez hit the bar with a cracking effort from outside the area - inches from sealing a hat trick!

In the 72nd minute Martina, Mane and Wanyama were replaced by Ward-Prowse, Ramirez and Slattery.

And within a minute both Ward-Prowse and Slattery played key roles in the build up to Juanmi slipping Rodriguez the ball for his well-deserved hat trick goal!

Ramirez gave Tadic the ball on a plate to seal his own hat trick a minute later, but his shot was tame and easily held.

In the 79th minute Wilson scored an equally ridiculous individual, this time going the other way and finding the other bottom corner.

A minute later a long ball found King for an easy header past Dragowski to make it 6-3!

And another minute further on it was 6-4, King with his second, a tap in from 6 yards. Three goals in 3 minutes for Bournemouth!

We tightened up further, and the goals finally stopped - for all of 7 minutes. Fortunately this time the scorer was Juanmi, who got on the end of Ward-Prowse’s free kick to volley in our 7th.

An absolutely epic game, I truly can’t remember having experienced one like it before. Our attack was outstanding, in particular Rodriguez, Tadic and Juanmi, who have been my go-to men all season. Unfortunately a look at the player ratings indicates that other than those three, every player’s rating dropped after half time. There was little that could have been done about either of Wilson’s goals, both of which were amongst the best I’ve seen, particularly the first. King’s two efforts were both atrocious defending though, and three in three minutes is unacceptable. At 6-1 I was pleased with their efforts and thinking I may not need such an overhaul, but it’s looking more and more like that’s what’s going to be required in the not too distant future. Dragowski could do little about any of the goals, but he’ll still be disappointed at shipping four on debut.

POM: Jay Rodriguez (9.6, 3G, 1A)

Nice couple of wins, I feel the Bournemouth game was a tad defensive though. Also, Dragowski has developed really well in my save so should be a great signing

Hardly a surprise here!

Ramirez has certainly earned his new deal, impressing me and become an important option in the first team.

Mane is the subject of an official bid by PSG. It was rejected, and I convinced him it was for his own good.

A Bosman transfer that was just too good to turn down. I like Serbian players, and Zivkovic is a talent I’ve always wanted to manage. He'll join at the end of the season.

Surprise surprise!

Gazzaniga departs

Tadic is also on PSG’s wish list. He’s also going nowhere.

Tete is available, but I’d rather try to differentiate my save from SaintMotBot’s, excellent as it is! I think both of our stories will be better if they are more unique :)

This bloke I found floating around as a free agent. He looks pretty promising, and I’ll look to reach an agreement with him if possible. His agent is making life difficult unfortunately.

This is the last thing I need! Captain and most important defender in the team! Apparently 11 goals in a game is too much for him to cope with - too stressful. I’ve given him a leave of absence, but a new CB is really a must, the others just aren’t cutting it right now.

Transfer News...
Our newest addition is a 22 year old Brazilian defender. He will provide much needed cover for both centre back and right back. Not to be confused with the Luan who I’ve seen others sign, and scouted myself. He has joined Man City.

English FA Cup - 3rd Round - Bournemouth (Home)

FA Cup tie against Bournemouth, and a heavily rotated side will look to get the business done against our rivals. Luan and Gitschier both make debuts, and Dragowski keeps his place between the posts.

In just the second minute we found ourselves behind as Pugh first timed an absolute worldie into the top right corner on the half volley from the edge of the area. He couldn’t do that again if he tried a hundred times! A sensational, and completely unstoppable goal.

In the 11th minute we pulled level, the two debutants combining, as Gitschier’s header from a Ramirez corner was turned in by Luan at the back post.

Two minutes later Pelle broke his goal drought with a clever run to turn home Ramirez’s excellent ball. Simple, but very important finish for the big Italian.

Long was unfortunate to hit the post with a good effort in the 21st minute.

Unfortunately Callum Slattery’s match came to a premature end as he departed with a bruised head in the 26th minute. Davis made his injury return from the bench.

In the 45th minute it was another debut goal, this time from Gitschier, who made a clever run to the near post and redirected Ward-Prowse’s cross into the net!

In stoppage time Bournemouth should have pulled a goal back, but Dragowski made a sensational double stop from Ritchie and Pugh to keep our two goal lead intact.

The half wasn’t over though, and Pelle picked up his second when he rifled home Bertrand’s excellent cross!

In the 52nd minute Pelle sealed his hat trick with an excellent slide to divert Long’s 6 yard box cross beyond the keeper! Fantastic to see the big man grab this opportunity with both hands! Good work from Long too, bringing down Romeu’s lofted ball before firing in the decisive pass.

In the 65th minute Hesketh replaced Long, which saw Davis go to the right wing and Ramirez to the left to accommodate Hesketh in central midfield.

In the 75th minute I started having flashbacks of our league match a week ago, as King was clean through on goal. He hit the post, and Dragowski made an excellent save to stop Pugh turning home the rebound from a yard out.

Gitschier was replaced by Tadic that same minute to a standing ovation. Another reshuffle of positions ensued.

80th minute and Bournemouth scored their second goal - deja vu anybody?? It was Glenn Murray this time.

Only yet another brilliant Dragowski save stopped Walters from scoring in the 85th minute.

And Pugh had his second in the 88th minute as conservative team instructions failed to tighten up our leaky defence.

Ward-Prowse scored a cracker of a free kick a minute later to make it 6-3.

Scarily identical match stats! We got the result we needed, but are apparently no closer to finding a defensive solution. 20 goals in two Southampton-Bournemouth fixtures! Quite unbelievable! Seems Dragowski may have been the difference today, as he pulled off some top drawer saves. Gitschier had a sensational debut, and Luan was decent enough too, and Pelle enjoyed a return to goal scoring ways which was great to see.

POM: Graziano Pelle (9.5, 3G, 0A)

You're not wrong, 20 goals in two games is just ridiculous! Yeah I'm actually quite shocked, don't want to spend it all though, so most of it will be saved for summer :)
