Urmmm - not sure whether I should be posting this (might jinx it!) but according to a couple of reliable Portuguese papers and now some Danish sources, Benfica are selling Oscar Cardozo (Yes, the man we all love in Football Manager) and signing:

NIKLAS BENDTNER

as his replacement. Now, I know this might upset some Arsenal fans, but just remember - we're getting a tidy profit of fifty quid on this guy. It's all about the Financial Profit after-all. He wants to leave because he feels he's too good for Arsenal and that while he's there, he's not going to win anything (partly because he's there, partly because if we DO win something, I'd hope that he plays less than 10 times...)

;)

Awesome. Let me know when the transfer is confirmed and I will drive him to Portugal in my Reliant Robin.

Why are we being linked with such dross?

Arsenal target Wolves striker Kevin Doyle for a £12million move to the Emirates - Transfer News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

That's all we can attract now, sub-par players like Kevin Doyle.

Sigh.

You also got linked with the Uzbekistan captain yesterday, he plays in the Russian League. Think he said there's been discussions...

Another MIRROR ****!

Cesc Fabregas heads back to Arsenal with Barcelona deal still being negotiated - Transfer News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Barcelona are fuming and have thrown the issue into the Fabregas equation, saying they won’t report Arsenal to FIFA over the matter and will withdraw a claim of £350,000 on each player, providing Fabregas comes their way.

LMAO BARCA!!!!. LOL

Was hoping to sell him for a bit more than 7 mill, but if Wenger brings in a quality replacement (Baines) I won't complain.

you will never get Baines for 7 million, Everton will fight tooth and nail to keep one of their best players and wont let him leave so easily or for such a small fee as all of us know Moyes has to sell before he can buy so he will fight till the last penny to keep Baines

Still Arsenal defo need to bring in a replacement LB, Gibbs is good but I dont think he is ready to play PLM football week in and out and he is injury-prone as well

I never thought we would get Baines for 7 million. Will be closer to 20 mill, could cut it down if we send a player there either for good or on loan.

But yeah, we definately can't afford to not bring someone in. Gibbs as first choice just isn't good enough and Traore and Botelho (more a winger anyway) wouldn't be good either.

Baines'll cost close to, if not more than 20 million. Can't see Wenger spending that.

Clichy for 7 Million is a bargain. Again this made me think once again why clubs take the risk of negotiating a contract untill its too late. If Arsenal offered him a contract last season it would have been better. If he had signed then you would have kept your LB, if he had rejected then you could have sold him for double the amount easily.. Same with Nasri, Flamini too..

Not only Arsenal, even United negotiate new contract when they have 12-24 months left.. 24 months is ok but 12 is very risky IMO..

You have this illusion that Wenger will just out-right refuse - whoever the player, whatever the circumstances - to pay more than £15m (our highest transfer fee for another player). That's simply not true, though - he'll pay what he thinks players are worth, so he wouldn't spend £35m on Andy Carroll, because he isn't worth that. If we desperately need a player, he'll splash out - See Arshavin, Nasri, and the bid for Pepe Reina at the start of last season. He bid £17m for Phil Jones ffs - an 18 YO CB.

He won't pay over the odds, but there's a difference between not paying way over the odds, and never splashing out at all.

I don't know... I think £7m for Clichy is OK. I'd rather us sell for closer to £10m tbh and that's what I said when Liverpool bid £5m, but I think I also said that I wouldn't be surprised if Clichy - a player we're perfectly willing to let go - was sold for around the figure quoted for the City transfer (although apparently someone reported £19m somewhere else, they may have added a one!) as a compromise.

Regardless, you say that about any player we're linked with that costs over £15m. And actually, I'm not sure it is really - arguably the best attacking full-back in the league, 26 (so nearing peak) and close to displacing Cashley in the England set-up. If he's willing to pay £16-17m for Jones, I can easily see him bidding £20m for Baines, just as he did Reina.

BUT - I don't think he'll go. He's a home-bird, and Everton won't sell. Enrique is who I expect to replace Clichy. Unless, of course, he's also a Liverpool fan ;)

Nah, 7 Million is way too less for a premier league proven player. He has played in the league for close to 5 years, played in champions league too.. Remember City paid 18 Million for Kolarov who is not better. My point is Arsenal had no other option but to let him go because he had only one year left on his contract..

Same thing is also happening with Nasri (If the reports are to be believed) and also happened with Flamini. Clubs could negotiate new deal bit earlier to reduce the risk of losing player for cheap or on bosman..
