And so it starts again... There's always the negative side to football I suppose. Wish people would just trust Wenger rather than chant "Spend some ******* money" during a game when we're not even playing that badly. Have we played badly since the season begun? No. A win and a draw against a tricky Newcastle side.

Wenger clearly has targets - just because The Sun says he's going to sign Zarate, doesn't make it so. He won't talk about it and we just have to accept that. It doesn't mean he's not working on it ffs.

why another fwd ??

i though we just need a CB (jags), a LW (Nasri replacement) and thats it.

Jesus ******* christ Jamie. I think we get the picture now.

Arsene should have signed Cabaye, not Chamberlain. Got it. You've said that half a million times in the last 10 pages.

A big moment for me was on the surface completely unlinked, when NUFC signed Cabaye who just had the season of his career in France and Arsene was all too aware of having wanted to bring him in the summer before. Off the back of last season and AFC scouts obviously knew that he was available very cheaply, I was asking why wasn't Wenger signing him?

He's in his mid 20's and would fit the bill style wise in Arsenal's midfield, yet he essentially let him go to Newcastle?

Something is not right there, if it's his clear policy of signing U-23's then fine but Wenger likes his bargains and for me that was one of the bargains of the summer. If Wenger goes into the season with the current squad (Even with Nasri) I can't see them finishing in the top 4.

Biggest test for Wenger, I hope he signs people because if he doesn't then I agree I can see the fans turning at the end of the season. With the Fabregas deal there is clearly money available, and to spend what he did on Chamberlain?

He said himself he's not afraid to spend money, but it's really not the right time to be buying Chamberlain at the moment (Would have been better having a season with SAFC in the Champ)...

Baffling.

This. Great post Jamie :)

Signing cabeye would mean putting a fit aaron ramsey or jack wilshere on the bench. If that's the case, then I'm fine with him not signing cabeye, to say that those two are the future of our team is a ****** understatement, they will be the platform everything is built off from now on.

Both were poor performances. He has targets, but has had near enough the whole ******* summer and still has not signed any significant player(Bar Gervinho). We have lost our best player and have not yet replaced him. We were promised "for the first time, I will be very active". This has not happened. I could go on..

Joss you have to agree with this?

How do you know he hasn't been active in the sense that he's been doing a lot of initial negotiating?

And if you mean he hasn't been very active in the sense of actually buying players, he hasn't been very active yet.

^ Exactly. For all we know, Wenger could be in for a £100 mil quadruple swoop. Give him a ******* chance, the window's still got time left to run.

Not going to jump the gun and slate Wenger for his lack of transfer activity but as Fabregas left a few days back, this is definitely the period where Arsenal will be the most active in the Transfer Market, they have the 25 odd million to spend which is what they received from the Fabregas Transfer and they can use that money to easily buy a new CB and then spend some more on possibly on a LB, the next 2 weeks will be the most testing of Arsene's career and it can make or break Arsenal's season

I for one would be very suprised if he does not bring in the required players just because he did not want to overpay, Clubs will definitely try to squeeze Arsenal out of every penny and I just hope Wenger realises that and does not start pulling out of transfers just because he did not want to pay that 2-3 million extra

To all those questioning Wenger.

I love that scene. Something vaguely biblical about Wenger standing tall amidst a backdrop of baying United fans. I've also just noticed the woman to the right who climbs through the crowd just to shout abuse at him from a closer location. :P

It's taken him over 2 months to do "initial negotiating"? Give me a break.

Another forum:

I've just listened to Wenger's "exclusive" interview recorded yesterday on Arsenal Player and in response to Richard Clarke's question about new signings he says "we try to look but people forget about all the players we have brought in." !!

So he clearly believes that Jenkinson (19), Chamberlain (just turned 18 a couple of days ago), Campbell (19) and Miyaichi (18) are ready now for the first team. The perpetual cycle of youth and transition continues...

So far this summer we have lost Clichy (25), Fabregas (24), Eboue (28), Denilson (23) and Vela (22). We are about to lose Nasri (24), Bendtner (23) and presumably Almunia (34).

We have brought in the teenagers above plus Gervinho (24) and have promoted Frimpong (19) to the first team squad.

Is Wenger obsessed with winning a trophy with the youngest squad in history just to prove his youth project can work? It beggars belief that he believes these new kids are ready and strong enough to replace the experience we have lost in droves this summer.

Is this what he meant when he said in May, after a disastrous collapse on all fronts, that he would address our weaknesses and be "very active" in the transfer market?!

I find the whole thing bizarre and confusing. He is quoted as saying that a 28-year old defender will not make the mistakes that he made when he was 21 and then he proceeds to sell Clichy and replace him with Gibbs at a time when our defence is crying out for some experience. The man is constantly contradicting himself.

People really need some perspective here. At the end of last season, every Arsenal fan was saying "Sell Bendtner, Almunia, Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Eboue, Clichy" and now it's "WHY U NO KEEP THESE PLAYERS WENGA?"

And yes, he clearly does believe that certain players are ready for the first team. Miyaichi, Campbell and Jenkinson will all be involved with the first-team this season. That doesn't mean he's not going to sign an experienced centre-back which he's said 10,000 times he's trying to do.

Is Vela really a big loss? Is Clichy? Denilson? Why keep unsettled players like Cesc and Nasri? It's hardly Wenger's fault than Barcelona are massive ***** and refused to make an acceptable offer until mid-August - even then, Wenger gets criticised for selling too cheaply. He simply can't win with some people.

The selling is not the issue here, its the replacing with better players. Not potentially better players. So you are happy we will/have lost Cesc, Nasri and don't seem to be replacing any of them. That we won't be playing a first team LB tomorrow. Or the fact that we may have to play a 442 and field, Ramsey, Frimpong, AOC/Ryo and AA in midfield against Liverpool? Three of whom are completely inexperienced. The fact that we have to put Nasri and Bendtner in the squad because we are down to the bare bones. Again, I could go on..
You're getting as delusional as Wenger.

andrei_arshavin_enjoying_a_prematch_hug_with_gunnersaurus.jpg

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Andrei Arshavin. He got a black eye in an international friendly, his captain at Arsenal left the club and he had to restrain Joey Barton. It's times like these that really make a hug from a sweaty guy in a dinosaur costume sound like a good thing.

So, as the Arsenal players got off the team bus ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Udinese at the Emirates, Andrei melted into the plushy arms of Gunnersaurus. And for that brief moment, everything was all right.

Christ she's a bit of a munter. Thought that was a young boy at first.

@Sulsey and all the other armchair managars who thing they know best: Age has absolutely no correlation to ability, we could buy a 25 year old cdm and he may be no better than Frimpong but you'd be jizzing your pants because he's not 19, not going to say whether or not he's of the quality required because I just don't know, but I trust Wenger's opinion over some armchair manager. Fabregas debuted when he was 16 btw.

Everyone needs to get behind the team, those who are criticising are the delusional ones. Wenger has delivered CL football for the past 15 seasons, Overmars, Bergkamp, Henry, they've all come and gone, the only constant throughout those hugely successful (Yes I said hugely successful, if top 4 for 15 years in a row is failing there's hundreds of clubs in the uk that would like to be failures too) has been Arsene, he's still here so why panic. Criticise at the end of the season, there's 37 games to go yet. Call for signings and a sacking if and when they finish 8th or whatever nonsene you lot are predicting, because with Wenger's track record you don't have a leg to stand on at the moment.

Oh and there's more to a player than natural ability, Nasri and Cesc may be very technically gifted but I'd back a youngster desperate to play over a more gifted wantaway mercenary any day of the week.
