Lost vs Dortmund. Lost vs Chelsea. Two big games which Arsenal have flopped, not really proving your title credentials just yet ...

Yesterday more showed their lack in strength in depth which is something we all knew about. I think it also showed just how strong Chelsea's squad is this season.

Definitely, even though the team we put out was supremely talented... It was still only our second team. Only retained Cahill from the Man City game

Neither team really created that much chances tbh. We made two mistakes at back which Chelsea took clinically while when Chelsea made mistakes we couldn't take those chances.

Lack of depth... More like injuries piling up yet again. We would have been much better with at least one of Walcott, Ox, Poldi or even Gnabry on field instead of Ryo.

We left out Ozil and Giroud which are two of our best players and Chelsea have the best squad depth as some of their subs could go in our first team so I'm not that bothered.

To be honest, they are both expected. Everyone knows that Arsenal aren't going to be invincible this season, and to be fair to them they've bounced back after the Dortmund game. They don't have to be unbeaten to prove their title credentials.

And Chelsea left out a lot of their best players - Terry, Ivanović, Cole, Ramires, Oscar, Hazard, etc. It was essentially a second-XI against a second-XI and you lost. However, I'm not saying that necessarily proves the quality of the sides, just I wouldn't use missing ?zil and Giroud as an excuse.

It'll be interesting to see how Arsenal react to this - do they have a stronger mentality than in previous seasons? I reckon it will affect them, like all losses do, but to be fair it is with a second-XI in a cup they don't really care about. However, that's not to say it won't hurt.

I'd agree with that, i think from Chelsea fans perspective its new to see us play so well against City and Arsenal 2 days apart. I mean past seasons we would have been smashed on possession, shots, passes etc etc but the last two matches we have gone toe to toe and came out on top on both.

I must say the emirates is definitely the best stadium I have been to in England!

No but they do have to prove that they can go toe to toe and take on the big teams and in both of their real tests so far this season, they have lost. Even Wenger described the Dortmund game as a 'litmus' test for the rest of their season .... Liverpool, Dortmund and Manchester United up next along with Southamptopn. Very interesting month

I agree, it's brilliant! Apparently the atmosphere inside it isn't, though.

Definitely not. It's a fantastically designed stadium with an immaculate pitch and a great feel, and then it's filled with a load of people who pay sixty quid to fidget silently in their seats.

I don't think this Chelsea game was a big test. As has been said, it was both teams 2nd teams (It's just Abramovic is happy to pay ridiculous amounts of money for reserve players), and it was only the league cup, which I honestly couldn't care less about.

Also, people were saying that Marseille and Tottenham were big tests before we played them, and that we'd lose. But since we won both, now people keep saying they weren't big tests at all. We have had 3 tough matches this season, and won 2 of them.

P.S. the problem with the Emirates Stadium is that the vast majority of people who can afford season tickets, are businessmen who are to 'proper' to sing/chant. And then when they can't get to games, they either don't give their ticket to someone else, or they put it at a ridiculous price on the ticket exchange (Seen tickets in **** areas of the stadium up for over a ?100 before.

Which is why our away support is so good, yet our home fans are mostly as silent as f*ck.

The prices are one reason why it struggles for atmosphere IMO. Also the shape of the ground is terrible for generating atmosphere, not that that's an excuse.

Also Napoli and Fenerbache away was talked up to be big tests before we made short work of them. Fenerbache tought were quite ****, but still it's funny how big tests turn out to be big tests only when we lose.

For me every match is a test and we've now passed 12 tests out of 16.

Marseille and Fenerbache are good sides but don't hold a candle to Dortmund and Chelsea. It's not about whether you win or lose at all ... Dortmund and Chelsea are the type of sides you have to be beating if you really want to prove your title credentials especially at home and you didn't

It's funny you couldn't care less about it now your out. A trophy is what you need so why do you believe you are good enough to turn your nose up at the league cup? It was a big test because both sides wanted to win the game, both sides played a strong 11 and you bought on 2 very good subs too. Yes Spurs and Marseille were a test but one has about 1,000 new players and the other have lost their last 6 and their manager close to being sacked. Dortmund and Chelsea are the kind of test you need to pass if you want to win major trophies especially as you don't care about one of them already.

To be fair, they are top of the league.

I'd happily turn my nose up at the League Cup any day of the week considering it is basically a game of "how many players can you afford to have at your club".

No worries about Chelsea, poor defensive mistakes with a few defenders who looked a bit rusty, other than that we all knew the striker position needed filling, so it was no surprise when we didn't do much with the ball up front.

Some of you really need to stop wumming.

Actually, if I recall correctly, the shape is designed to retain sound - I'm not certain about it, but I'm pretty sure.

Yep, forgot about Napoli. We were meant to struggle against Fener, but that was before the season actually started so people never really talked of it as a test.

What about Tottenham, after they had spent over ?100m, still had Bale and we'd only signed Sanago? Marseille is tougher than people think, especially at their ground.

Not really, I have never cared about the league cup, and never will (If you could be bothered to go back all the way to last season, I remember having a discussion with someone on this thread about how unimportant the league cup is. The fact is most big clubs use it to get players match fitness, or to give youngsters/players who aren't in the first XI match time.

All that match showed was that Chelsea had (much) better squad depth. Our first XI is one of the best in the league, but it is when injuries strike (which they will) that we will see how good we actually are (And no, personally I don't think we can seriously consider challenging for the title, unless we buy alot of players in January)

It's not a case of 'turning my nose up' at the league cup, it's just I only see it as a way for clubs to get more money (mainly football league clubs) rather than a serious competition. Just as I would rather not be in Europe at all than be in the Europa league (As we'll more likely to get fitness and struggle in the league), I would rather go out of the league cup than risk injuries to key players.

(And Marseille have since lost their last 5, they hadn't at the time. And of those 5, 3 were home games (and 2 were against Dortmund and PSG, and Dortmund found it a much closer match than when we beat them). If we had beaten Chelsea last night, people would of discarded it at playing against Chelsea's reserves, and that is was only the COC.
