Well.. not really. Just because YOU'VE never seen Alvarez play, doesn't mean he's more of a risk than Samba, Gervinho or Chamberlain. All of them have a risk-factor:

We don't know if Samba will fit in to the Arsenal mould - will he cause problems in the changing room? (Victoria Concordia Crescit = Victory Through Harmony), will he be too slow?

Gervinho: Yes, Ligue 1 is more of a natural stepping stone to the PL than the Argentinian Division, but it's still nowhere near as good as the PL is IMO. Every chance that he could flop and fail to adapt to a new country, league - with a different pace, more physicality, etc. Plus there's the ever-present risk that he COULD block some brilliant young talents like Myiachi and Pedro from coming through.

BUT - I think this deal presents the least risk. He's 24 so he's near his peak, has a bit of experience, and is a winner. Should do well.

Chamberlain: He's what? 18? Paying £10m for an 18 YO is always a risk - he has pace, but that's not enough at the highest level. You need to be strong, intelligent, etc.

The only point I'm making is that saying "I don't want risk" re: transfers is ridiculous. EVERY transfer is a risk.

----------

EDIT: Regarding other players, we are turning our attention to them. These three deals have going on for a while: left-foward was always going to be an area that needed strengthening. (Although not sure we need double strengthening there). So was RB (addressed), and now he's identifying CB targets.

Samba, Cahill, Jagielka all targets. The last one is the main target despite what I said yesterday about Jamie Jackson (Most of it was BS, he happened to get this right it seems)

who says I have not watched Alvarez play and I did not think he would replace Fabregas plus I never mentioned that your other transfers are not a risk, i just observed that they were a less of a risk than signing an unkown and unproven youngster from Argentina particularly as not many South American players have done well in the PLM, stop putting words in my mouth and pulling accusations out of thin air

Well, have you? And I don't mean on youtube or a couple of atdhe streams.

Watched him play 4 full length matches, would have watched more if I could as my mom is South American and her brother is passionate about the soccer there

I haven't heard anything about Willian in while I though Wenger was keen on him

someone better thats not gibbs

Someone better than Clichy. Give me an example, please, because there aren't too many left-backs that are A) better than Clichy, B) Willing to go to Arsenal (over other major clubs) and C) Available for something under about £20 million.

Was going to say Baines, but he wants to stay in the north west.

Clichy's concentration is awfull and he makes basic errors Jose Enrique is a better defender

Jesus. The Mirror really are disgraceful - they seem to have taken that stuff directly from We Are The North Bank, who posted exactly that (not word for word) earlier. Mail have done it to Young Guns before as well.. Don't know how some of them get away with it. Could just have same contacts, I guess but seems too coincidental IMO.

But no defender yet, a place where you need to strengthen more?

We ARE looking at defenders. We were in for Jones, we're still in for Samba (but Blackburn upped their asking price to £15m after they realised Hertha Berlin got 15% of any fee). Jagielka is now the priority target for defence. Cahill also an option, but not worth the £17m release-clause/asking price.

Think the original deal was either misreported, or just changed. Seemed to be £4m + Denilson for Willian, and then it changed to £8m + Denilson, I think and we probably pulled out.

You're eager for Clichy to move?

Think Calum is eager for most players to leave ;)

Koscielny, Nasri, van Persie have all been named at the top of Calum's 'To be sold' list!

i thought koscienly had a really good season if he hits the weights i think he could be very good defender.

Edit: joss i was wondering what players would you hope arsene brought?
