Well.. not really. Just because YOU'VE never seen Alvarez play, doesn't mean he's more of a risk than Samba, Gervinho or Chamberlain. All of them have a risk-factor:
We don't know if Samba will fit in to the Arsenal mould - will he cause problems in the changing room? (Victoria Concordia Crescit = Victory Through Harmony), will he be too slow?
Gervinho: Yes, Ligue 1 is more of a natural stepping stone to the PL than the Argentinian Division, but it's still nowhere near as good as the PL is IMO. Every chance that he could flop and fail to adapt to a new country, league - with a different pace, more physicality, etc. Plus there's the ever-present risk that he COULD block some brilliant young talents like Myiachi and Pedro from coming through.
BUT - I think this deal presents the least risk. He's 24 so he's near his peak, has a bit of experience, and is a winner. Should do well.
Chamberlain: He's what? 18? Paying £10m for an 18 YO is always a risk - he has pace, but that's not enough at the highest level. You need to be strong, intelligent, etc.
The only point I'm making is that saying "I don't want risk" re: transfers is ridiculous. EVERY transfer is a risk.

EDIT: Regarding other players, we are turning our attention to them. These three deals have going on for a while: left-foward was always going to be an area that needed strengthening. (Although not sure we need double strengthening there). So was RB (addressed), and now he's identifying CB targets.
Samba, Cahill, Jagielka all targets. The last one is the main target despite what I said yesterday about Jamie Jackson (Most of it was BS, he happened to get this right it seems)
who says I have not watched Alvarez play and I did not think he would replace Fabregas plus I never mentioned that your other transfers are not a risk, i just observed that they were a less of a risk than signing an unkown and unproven youngster from Argentina particularly as not many South American players have done well in the PLM, stop putting words in my mouth and pulling accusations out of thin air
