Nah, 7 Million is way too less for a premier league proven player. He has played in the league for close to 5 years, played in champions league too.. Remember City paid 18 Million for Kolarov who is not better. My point is Arsenal had no other option but to let him go because he had only one year left on his contract..

Same thing is also happening with Nasri (If the reports are to be believed) and also happened with Flamini. Clubs could negotiate new deal bit earlier to reduce the risk of losing player for cheap or on bosman..

I agree, but I don't think £7m is too much off our valuation of Clichy. If we wanted to keep him, we could drive a harder bargain but we're not really bothered. We would have sold him to Madrid last season, but then Mourinho turned up. Flamini left for free, I don't think Nasri will. If reports are to be believed, we're getting £20m for him if you or Citeh get him.

One word to describe that: Thankyouplease.

BUT - I don't think he'll go. He's a home-bird, and Everton won't sell. Enrique is who I expect to replace Clichy. Unless, of course, he's also a Liverpool fan ;)

I think Wenger will sign some unknown player (Not a dig, its a compliment) to replace Clichy. He has an excellent eye for talent and I will be surprised if he has not found one already to replace Clichy..

Arsenal missed Taiwo, would have been superb signing that too free signing..

Yeah Nasri wont be leaving on free, but for Nasri 15-20 Million is not way off the mark. It will be very good signing for the player who has played in the league.. Hopefully we are not after him. I want a proper CM.. Previously I wanted him at CM thinking he can play there, but if it ***** up, then our whole season will be in jeopardy..

Considering the prices that are paid for players in the league 7 Million is bit less IMO. But apart from Ade, to an extent Toure Wenger has not sold anyone for the price they deserved... Even Henry was sold for 12 Million if I'm not wrong.. We also are not good in this dept though apart from 80 Million for Ronaldo..

Not sure that would go down too well with the Arsenal faithful ;)

He said he wants players (specifically defenders) with PL experience, so I think Enrique is a likely option. Baines is undoubtedly a target, but whether we think it's possible to prise him away from Everton, I'm not sure.

Gervinho deal to be announced today according to African press. £11m, £55,000/week. 4 year contract.

I've been away on a 4-day holiday and come back to **** all? :'(

£11m for Gervinho is a steal. I know he was on his last year but a very good pick up. Can't wait to see the man in action.

Hm. Maybe not the right prices, but he certainly knows when to let a player go and when to keep them.

Henry is an exception to that rule in that he had a comparatively poor final season (bar the winner vs Utd ;)) and then had an excellent first season with Barca, but after that, he was dropped and never regained his form (great to see him playing well at NYRB though).

Vieira, Pires, Campbell (to an extent - twice?), Flamini (although we should have sold him), Reyes, etc. all played well for us and then when we sold them/let them go, they didn't do so well. I think he's an excellent judger of talent and rarely gets it completely wrong IMO. Squillaci and Jeffers are exceptions to that rule ;)

Baines would be brilliant and also so is Enrique.. Those 2 are the only quality LBs available with PL experience.. Like discussed before, with the financial difficulties Everton are in they would accept 20 Million for baines. But if they sell Rodwell for that amount I dont think Moyes will let Baines go..

So Gervinho deal means more or less Nasri moving out is confirmed? Read somewhere that Wenger will let Nasri go once the Gervinho deal is done. (Means replacement is signed)..

Flamini was poor for a season then he regained his form. He is playing well for Milan.. Yeah for some reason players who left Arsenal have went downhill. You left out Hleb too.. What i meant was with the reputation they had, Wenger could have sold them for even higher price. Not arguing about the performances for new clubs though. As I have said apart from Henry, Flamini none have remained the same player..

Baines is a home-bird though, as I said. He won't push for a transfer publicly or privately - Everton need the cash, but not if it's their best player. Feel sorry for them tbh - Lescott, Jagielka, Arteta, Baines, Rodwell are sought after by big clubs who they find it difficult to refuse considering their finances.

Not necessarily. Show-down talks today, but Gervinho was a target a while ago I think.

Is it just me, or are Arsenal more likely to just play Gibbs then buy another LB?

And who would people like to see bought in midfield if both Nasri and Fabregas go?

Yeah no I agree with you. Not the best negotiator in terms of selling (although that £12m odd for Hleb looks a bargain now) but knows when to sell and when to keep. Can be very persuasive too - see Cesc staying last season.

Yeah have to feel for Everton and Moyes.. I can't think of any other manager staying so loyal and work wonders like he did with Everton. Speaking of excellent judger of talent, Moyes is also up there..

Yeah read Nasri will meet Wenger but looking at Nasri's interview (Want to win trophies and all) I think he will leave..

---------- Post added at 05:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------

Vermaelen in 2008/2009 played 14 times at CB and 17 times at LB before moving to Arsenal.. So if every possible move is blocked then V5 can slot in there. I know he is Arsenal's best CB and why to play your best CB as LB..

But if quality LBs are not available and if Arsenal sign Samba/Cahill or both then I can see this happening..

Definitely replace Cesc - not sure who with. Someone similar in style if poss - but convinced Ramsey is his long-term replacement.

Not sure about Nasri. I think we need cover at left-forward but since we've lost out on Alvarez by the looks of things (if we were ever interested) but then we have to think about futures of Myiachi and Pedro IMO. Tough one. Valbuena rumour is doing the rounds at the moment.. or Mata? If affordable and not £25m+

I think Nasri's quotes also leave room for a U-Turn. It's all speculation at the moment to be honest, as I said before. But it doesn't look like we'll be able to sell to Inter if they've signed Alvarez...

Very highly doubt Vermaelen will move to LB. We want attacking LBs who can defend, rather than defensive ones who can occasionally join the attack if that makes sense..

Ya, I mean more like how Brown played for us in 2007-08. Solid at the back with Evra given more freedom. Tight at the back at one side and more adventorous on the other. Brown did very well. Not saying V5 should play there, but if all possible LBs are not available then its an option and good one too..

Mata would be perfect to replace Nasri. Better IMO.

Hehe

As much as I enjoy picking on Arsenal fans, this is sad. I could see Cesc going, and Denilson and Bendtner leaving was something good ather than bad, but to see all these greedy ***** jumping ship is a real pity. Neither the club nor Wenger deserve this. I may not agree with his style but the man had a project and it's falling apart now. Hopefully he can patch it up with a few signings.
