Yeah in Spain the release clause is more of an agreement than a release clause your right, well Sid Lowe is. But its not into play in Matas case, 25 mill euros is what they want and thats the agreement fee the club can sell at and not the mark he can recind his contract and just leave the club (i.e AVB). That's why Aguero isn't easy he has 'an agreed selling price' clause rather than an actual release clause... But like I said, doubt this will be an issue with Mata since Valencia will cash in a 24 million euros profit on him and imo Piatti is his replacement at LW, but I really don't think agreement/release clause distinction is an issue here.

this is what i was trying to find from you. re: the second part of his clause, was it put in specifically by Mata/agents?

I think it must have been, otherwise I don't see how Graham Hunter can justify us activating his clause. Can only imagine a Foreign Release Clause was added in when the new contract was signed in January along with the Formal Release Clause. God, contracts are complicated.

Or perhaps, being cash-strapped as they are, I think they are looking for something in the region of £20M+ so may have accepted it.

Some clarification on Mata:

1. Graham is unreliable, but he's right.

2. Still only appears to be for Spanish clubs. Spanish law, not exclusive to Mata as I had thought.

Basically - we're not likely to be very close to Mata.

;)

Was talking to Jimmer I believe, figured that with the number of players in, and with their current standing, they wouldnt shy away from a good fee, hence Mata saying publicly he was happy to stay in order to keep the price high, (though im sure he meant it anyway)

Is Micah Richards up for grabs?

Would love to see him here. Strong, powerful going forward. Can play Cb/Rb. Ideal in my book.

For all the disrespect shown, Ade is enjoying his stay as City player.

Adebayor said:
"this is very hurtful and insulting and says a lot about manchester city. On the one hand they want to become the biggest, most successful club in the world, yet the people who run the club are not acting in that way at all. No one at city is man enough to speak to me face-to-face to explain. I just received an email from brian marwood's secretary, a lady at the club called claire, telling me to report to training on july 9. But when i spoke to the other players, i found out the first team was leaving for the pre-season tour of the usa on july 8."

Leave Arsenal in difficult circumstances = end of career.

Hleb, Henry (to an extent), Vieira (speculation for ages about leaving, got relegated immediately), Flamini (warming Milan's bench), Greedy Barndoor, Kolo Toure, etc.

Basically; Wenger pwns all. ;)

Flamini is not warming bench. He is playing a role. Joss counter argument is very simple.. They have all won trophies ;)

They haven't... Adebayor, Toure, Vieira, Hleb haven't. Henry did - but you would at Barca.

Adebayor won Kings cup, Toure got FA cup medal isn't it? Vieira got one I think..

I'd be surprised if Toure got one... He was in rehab at the time ;)

VIeira MAY have got one actually. Came on as a 90th minute sub. Good point about Adebayor - 70th minute sub.

Point is - they've all failed personally.

Vieira won the Serie A every season he was in Italy although the first was stripped off him.

SCREW YOU!

My point stands.

Lol Joss there was a post on how many trophies they have won in combined after leaving Arsenal.

Agree with you on performances level though. All have went downhill except Flamini. Also Sylvinho won few too and he played well for Barca also..

Forgive my ignorance, but didn't Hleb win a certain Carling Cup? May be wrong.

Regardless of trophies, there's only a few ex-Arsenal players who have gone on to do well for a sustained period of time. Cole is one.

Joss has a point too, however: would you say that Hleb is as good a player as he was at Arsenal? Was he ever that good again? I'd say no, not by a long shot, and he's nearly the definition of the words "washed up" now.
