Van Persie - This could be my best year

By Chris Harris

Robin van Persie thinks he has ten more years left at the top and believes the next one could be his best yet.

The Dutch forward will be 28 by the time the 2011/12 campaign gets underway and, on the evidence of last season, he is approaching his peak. Van Persie has been hampered by injuries in the past but, since New Year's Day, he has rattled in 18 goals - equalling the record for the second half of an English campaign.

When the new season starts at Newcastle on August 13, Van Persie will look to extend a record he has to himself after scoring in nine consecutive Premier League away games.

As ever the Dutchman's fitness will be an influential factor in Arsenal's success but he thinks he can continue his upward curve.

"I was 27 last year and everyone would think that you have an amazing start to the season and then maybe grow from there," Van Persie told Arsenal.com. "But I had an injury and needed time to get back to fitness.

"The second part of last year, I scored 18 Premier League goals so it's strange. You can't really tell beforehand whether you are going to have your best year because you don't really know what is going to happen. If it goes your way, I do believe that this could be a really good year for me.

"The way I see it is that I am halfway through my career now. I have been playing for ten years and I'd like to play for at least ten more years. Of course I want to win things but winning things doesn't come from out of the blue. I'm just a part of the whole story, it depends on many things."

Oh and by the way - sharp eyed @DarrenArsenal1 on twitter points out that Arsene Wenger pretty much confirmed he's willing to let Cesc go, and it's not a case of "he's 100% not for sale whatever happens" as it was last year:

"It has to stop, of course. If there is a transfer negotiation between two clubs, I don't think it is healthy if players come out [and talk] who are not concerned by it. Unfortunately, in this case, it has happened a few times. It will not contribute to sort any problem out.

May not be what he means, of course, but I think we all know that he is willing to sell him at the right price.

Ridiculous that Barca published that on their official website. Pay up, or SHUT THE **** UP.

Those teammates track back less than Arshavin.

Will be if he can stay injury free but he's legs are made of paper.

the team anouncer has such a knowable voice

Indeed, but most of Essien's are done by freak and he can take other players challenges. Plus we can/have handle/handled Essien's unavailability.

Normally so can RVP

they both have paper legs tbh, not really an argument worth having

Cruyff;
"if Barça want to buy Cesc they will have to pay up - when you sign a contract you are tied to that club."If Barça want to buy Cesc then they will have to pay up when you sign a contract you are tied to that club.''
"Arsenal are in control of this situation."
"Wenger is looking after his club's interests and Cesc signed up for a lot of years the last time he got a new contract."
"Okay given Cesc's footballing quality it's normal that Barça wants him back. But it was he who left FC Barcelona.''
"When u sign a contract u are tied to that club.I wonder what the case would be if Messi suddenly wanted to return to Argentina!!''

Wish Rosell would listen to Cruyff rather than discard him as a PR stunt every now and again, Johann talks great sense.

The saga continues...

Sandro Rosell is on holiday so he is out of the direct contact picture with Arsenal, Barce's sending over a junior director, who was recently appointed, over to England to negotiate the deal for Cesc.

I should point out Rosell flew all the way to Udinese to meet with Pozzo the chairman to discuss Sanchez yet he sends a junior director to negotiate for Cesc?

Unbelievable arrogance on FCB part, unless they realise they wont be able to get him this summer but want a fall guy and make it look like they didn't really try that hard to get him or blame it on Arsenal a bit more I just really do not know what FCB are playing at.
