I think he will. Not because of any inside info (People keep asking me what I know? I don't know anything, I just read a lot of stuff from what I see as reliable sources on twitter/elsewhere!) - just a hunch and expectation. I wonder if we'll take it to the wire with Cahill. Growing to that idea now, although I don't see him working alongside Vermaelen, but rather as his back-up? Which seems a little pointless. I still prefer Jagielka because he seems like a good partner for Vermaelen and it would also take the pressure off Djourou to cover that RCB slot, with Kos able to play both roles in equal measure.

Cant believe you forgot him :O

Samba or Jags fit the bill better, they compliment Vermalen better than Cahill. Arsene's whole aim is to find a partner for TV, not back up. otherwise that would defeat the point of the task

Joss, I know Wenger wants a player with Prem experience, but if he cant get one of two i mentioned, he might as well look abroad and get Vertonghen. I like Cahill a lot, but for the price Bolton want, he is too similar to TV, but just not as good

Vertonghen already plays with TV with Belgium/Ajax (sp) so thats another reason to buy him if Samba/Jags fails

I don't know anything about Vertonghen other than that he seems to be Vermaelen's replacement at Ajax. I figured he was a similar player but maybe not?

According to reports in Costa Rica, Joel Campbell will travel to England on Saturday.

(H) :P 8-|

Doesn't mean he is going to be signing for us.

Denilson has got 2 red cards in 3 games for Sao Paulo. Idiot.

He's about halfway between Jags and Cahill in style, ball carrying and defensive ability. but made up for with his strong understanding with TV5. he has stated that he may leave this summer, and he and TV5 are very close friends. he excels on the ball and can play DMC if need. after those tw he is the best signing you can make, and if it wasnt for the fact Arsene wants an england based defender he'd be the best choice

this. but i doubt Ajax would sell their main CB.

I don't see what all the fuss is about Arsenal needing another CB. Djorou and Vermaelen are both very good starting CB's, and I don't think any of the names being thrown around will be much better. Koscielny is a capable back-up and Squillaci is great for a fourth choice. Yeah I know he sucked last season, but I think he just didn't settle to the Prem. I think he'll do fine this year...people forget that he's a tall, experienced CB who has already proven himself as a very good player in France and at Sevilla.

What Arsenal does need (once Fabregas leaves) is another DM. Wilshere/Ramsey will be playing CM, and you'll only have three DM's for two positions (Song, Diaby, Frimpong). There's Coquelin and Lansbury, I guess, who I know nothing about, but you definitely need one more: do you really want Diaby or Frimpong to be in your starting XI? I don't.

Djourou is horrificly out of form at the moment - for some reason he hasn't recovered from his end of season form (mentally/physically) and he keeps making lazy mistakes that we simply didn't see from him in the middle of last season when he and Koscielny were two of the most in-form CBs in the league.

Koscielny and Vermaelen are fine for first-choice, but are back-up (as has so often been the case all over the pitch in recent seasons) isn't good enough.

Squillaci is awful. There's nothing else to say about it except that he did well in La Liga/Ligue 1 - both much slower, far less physical leagues in teams that weren't as good/attack-minded as Arsenal. He hasn't settled into the PL/Arsenal for a reason. He's not good enough for 4th choice at all. He was 4th choice last season and he made 32 appearances. He's been awful in pre-season and he's showed zero signs of improvement.

And yes. I would quite like to see Frimpong in the Starting XI when Song is out. He's an excellent player IMO and has done consistently well against decent opposition in pre-season this and last year.

What Arsenal need (if Fabregas leaves - since we haven't heard anything from reliable sources and the whole thing started off with Spanish Media saying he's leaving when they've done that a billion times before) is a CB (Jagielka since we'll have the cash) and Mata; capable of playing behind the striker and wide-left.

I think we also need to keep Nasri for another year if Cesc leaves. The gamble is worth it if it means we don't lose 2 key players in the same window and don't have time to replace them. I'd honestly rather lose him for free next season and replace him (if needed) with the money we have anyway next year and possibly add a LB/whatever area needs strengthening come the end of the season.

Ever wondered how Arsenal scout youngsters? Or what happened to the likes of Nacer Barazite?

I reckon Wenger has made a mistake not going for Jose Enrique, would of been worth spending 6-8 mill to have another good left back to go with Gibbs. Even if we ended up rotating the two (and a proper rotation, not like Clichy/Gibbs where Clichy played 80% of games) that would of been alot better than having Gibbs backed up by Traore. Because lets face it, Gibbs is hardly a stranger to injuries and do we really want someone like Traore, who I reckon is far from good enough, possibly having to play 20 games this season.

Agree, I think LB is actually the most worrying position in the squad atm.

Definately. Centreback could be managed how it is now, although that would be far from ideal. But LB has been overlooked I feel, Gibbs is largely unproven and Traore just really has shown nothing that he is all that much.

Clichy himself isn't a big loss in terms of the player, but in terms of an experienced and fairly handy LB, it's a massive loss.
