Benitez is a defensive specialist through system, not necessarily through improving players. Compare that to Jose, who not only drills his players into fantastic systems, he also improves them markedly in terms of quality; see Nuno Valente, Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho, John Terry, and took the likes of Walter Samuel and Lucio to new heights near the end of their careers.

They're both excellent...as well as borderline insane when it comes picking apart tiniest details about the player to improve his game or exploit weaknessess, its just that Jose can drive his players better...for a while anyway.

In fact, I'm pretty sure Luiz himself credited Benitez for his vast improvement this season. Mourinho's edge over Benitez in terms of player development comes from his ability to improve their commitment and dedication. Was it Ibra who said he would kill for Jose? But special quality sauce at mostly vanished the moment Mourinho left. Within couple of years Snejider went from Madrid reject to best player in the world only to end up in Galata.

Either way I gotta say no world class manager really had a knack at Luiz yet, since Carlo and Interim One didn't really have enough time, so it might be a good idea to keep him around, if only to see what Jose can do with him.

Anyway the whole transfer saga was bollocks (big surprise :P )

. Milan's solid defence probably had more to do with the fact that the likes of Maldini, Nesta, Stam and Costacurta all played in that defence at different periods.

I don't know about that, Lazio-era Nesta and Milan-era Nesta wasn't even the same guy.

Chelsea have signed 18 year old striker Stipe Perica. Anybody heard of him? If so do you think there is a chance he will be able to make it at the club or will he just be another Franco Di Santo? (put in the reserves, given the odd first team appearance, perhaps loaned out and finally being sold for next to nothing/released.)

He looked decent at the U20 WC, who knows how he will turn out though.

This is a great option for the youth/U21 team though. Too many times Feruz was left isolated upfront on his own, now we have genuine players with a physical presence like Perica & Izzy Brown.

Early days but Van Ginkel was a beast tonight. Kept Guarin in his back pocket. Moses was superb as well. Both full of energy, running and industry. Classic Jose players

Thorgan Hazard has been made Zulte captain for the season. Bit strange making a player captain who is only on loan unless they are pretty confident he may join them permanent in the future :/

Great performance vs Milan. Could have finished it off earlier but some very encouraging signs, loving the strength in depth at the moment.

Chelsea in with a very strong chance of the title this season perhaps? With Mourinho back at the helm you'd have to put them up there without a doubt

Jose Mourinho when will you realise that £30m is laughable for Rooney when Chelsea paid £50m for Torres. If you want a true champion in your team you have to pay the price, which is at least equal to what you paid for Torres. Also not forgetting the best strikers in this transfer market such as Cavani/Falcao have gone for premium prices so why should Rooney be any different?

Really liking the look of Chelsea this season, brilliant young team with a few old heads that will flourish again under a returning Mourinho

If they can manage to round it off with a striker ( maybe Rooney ) they are going to be very hard to beat

Maybe because he has not shown the form the best strikers have in the past 12 months?

I do agree with you though, United should be asking for 35m+ .. especially to Chelsea

One off season doesn't really count for much, especially when he was in and out of the side and used in midfield as well towards the latter stages I wouldn't really count it as a bad season, although it was maybe a slight dip in form.

But back to the basic point, best strikers go for premium prices, then you have the rivalry added on top, I wouldn't accept anything less than £50m and would show them a photo of Torres just so they know what they done before to get a good striker.

The fact Rooney is England's best striker (opinion but not many would disagree) is always going to make him more valuable than he should be sadly, but I agree that United would obviously want more than 30m for him. I don't think Chelsea should pay anymore than that though to be honest - there is quality abroad

Fair point, but I disagree with the end. I think you would struggle to find someone of Rooney's level abroad for £30m right now. Infact I definitely couldn't see one.

It is true that the value for money is not great at the moment, there are a lot of inflated prices and of course you won't find anyone of Rooney's ability for £30M, however take in consideration Rooney is a slight 'want-away' case therefore Chelsea are probably trying to use that to they're advantage and get the price down as much as they can.

Maybe it's time for Chelsea to take a gamble on someone from abroad for a little cheaper? Torres for £50M didn't work out as well as they had hoped - however he has settled in alot more now, but is spending a big sum of money on another big name really what Chelsea need?

I'm abroad and I'm right there on Wayne's level - grumpy, balding, lazy and slightly overweight.

Missed the game last night as i was at work but we scored 2 very good goals by two very promising young players. We have looked very good in pre-season and some very good performances from Moses and Van Ginkel. On the Rooney saga its ****** well boring! Utd won't sell to us unless its for stupid money or Rooney hands in a transfer request.

I'm so excited to watch this Chelsea team in a real competition. Best word to describe us at the moment would be, potential.

Rooney - I think we play Utd in three weeks (?) so I can't see Utd selling before then, it'll be a last minute deal IF it happens.
