We did spend that type of money on a supposedly world-class striker a couple of seasons ago remember? Where did that get us? The potential risk attached with such transfers is just too big

Not even the same thing. big difference between the state of Torres, and the state of those two.

Torres was already way out of form before we bought him where as cavani and Falcao have been on the form of their lives the past few seasons. Mario Gomez could also have been a good shout before he ended up at fiorentina.

Well the money you spend on Schurrle+Willian would most likely be enough for either Falcao and Cavani, so...

All Chelsea really had to do was a) buy a world class forward and b) recall the loanies. Maybe c) get good pivot player if feeling wild.

I can't even begin to comprehend how people in the club managed to **** it up and now you have 6 great attacking mids fighting for a spot behind 3 mediocre, overpaid, aging and injury prone strikers. Lol.

Edit:

Also, yeah. Torres wasn't a flop, he was just a dumb transfer.

to be fair, a certain spanish man, would have been booed to the rafters over this.

That certain Spanish man was not liked before he got the job. Imagine "King Kenny" taking over at Utd. The supporters are not too fond of him are they, hence why he was not backed by the majority, sometimes football is more than just results its about morals.

It's way too early to tell but Mourinho returning could end horribly if things keep up. Didn't the second coming in the bible end in an apocalypse?

I don't know what else would you call it, considering Benitez somehow managed to beat both Everton and Basel, playing 11 man three times a week without fuckton of new signings.

Jose needs to suck up his ego and start playing Rafa's squad and system, which actually worked amazingly well at the end of last season. Especially since your transfers didn't really adress the imbalances in the team, just added plenty of depth.

The Everton win under Rafa came before the really busy schedule for starters and if we beat Fulham tomorrow does that mean Jose has one up on Rafa as he drew that game 0-0 last season? No it doesn't crazy to compare results against the same sides in different seasons.

To be fair, there are no other world-class strikers in the market so who else could he have gone for? Cavani was way too expensive. Lewandowski has his heart set on Bayern so far at least. Falcao was too expensive as well. Can't think of anyone else who would have been a significant upgrade to Lukaku, Torres and Ba

I don't really agree with that, we didn't need Willian/Schurrle and we were willing to pay what 30 million for Rooney so take that into count and we could have afforded one of Falcao or Cavani.

He wasn't banging 2-3 goals every game but he certainly wasn't 'way out of form'.

I believe he had just scored a hattrick against Wolves before he joined us but he certainly was already half of the player he used to be. Just have to face up to the fact that we signed a glued back together ornament and without having time to do a proper medical Liverpool were laughing at us.

Quoting a fictional story book..........

Calm your **** guys ... 2 bad results isn't the end of the world. Keep the faith :)

So Jose has come out and said Oscar is his number one choice to play in the "number 10 role" this season. Seeing alot of Chelsea fans giving stick about this and moaning it should be Mata but tbh I think it is the right choice as when both Oscar and mata are on the pitch I believe mata can do a better job on the wing than Oscar who was pretty ineffective last season on the wing whilst Juan was in the middle. Mata can still put in great performances out wide if I remember rightly didn't he play outside for us his first season and he was our best player just as he was playing in the middle last season.

This would be great if he hadn't also attacked Mata.

"The way I'm reading the situation and the reasons why, in this moment, he's not playing so much are things I can speak about with him, but not publicly," [...] "But he played against Everton from the start and you can analyse his performance. And he came on against Basel when the team were winning 1-0 – not like Demba Ba or Mikel John Obi, who came on to rescue the game –with specific tasks to do.

The problem i have with Mata "wide" is that it isn't actually wide is it. We have very little natural width as it is so to put Mata wide would make us even more narrow. I personally think if and this is a big if Jose is here more than 2 seasons then Mata will be sold.

But Mata as wide player in Jose's 4-3-3 is completely different thing from 4-2-3-1 Rafa was playing. The width is supposed to come from fullbacks here.

And both fullbacks Jose likes in Cole and Brana offer next to no width. Its made me think at times we would be better off with Bertrand and Azpi playing.

I really think we need someone challenging Cole for the left back position. In my opinion he has been pretty average for at least a year and a half now seems to get skinned so easily. Would like to see Bertrand given more of a chance.
